Hi George! 👋 Had to pause to comment before i forget...lol I wonder if Boy Scout Memorabilia will go up in price with the new name change to Scouting America in feb 25. Might be a good time to prospect before everyone thinks about it. We still have to have yearly inspections on our vehicles in Maine. And going back to the beginning, as a young girl my Mom brought home a steamer trunk like yours but it was pink and pretty. Since our old house had only 2 closets, my sisters in the bunks shared a big dresser and i got the steamer for my clothes. It felt really special. I also slept on spring cot that could be folded out to sleep two. It was so comfy. And we shared the room until i was a teenager. My 3 older brothers eventually made the attic into their cave and i got a room that myself and my littlest brother who was under 5 and only went there to sleep, shared.

27:19 We had a Caloric when I was kid. Gas stovetop that died of old age eventually. Or rather, one burner control died and it was so old we couldn't get parts. The KI railroad lantern was probably a shortline. I don't know it, and my dad would have taught me. If it was K&T it was Kentucky and Tennessee. I found a little lapel pin from a LA/TX shortline once, in a random lot. Paid $10 for the lot. The pin sold for over $300 in an online auction. Stuff from the line was rare and collectors were rabid. So... if you find marked shortline pieces, nab 'em.
@TheAntiqueNomad23 күн бұрын
Oh, I was thinking it was Kansas-Texas (Katy) Line! My granddad was the railroad man but he died long before I was born, so I never got to learn more, he worked for the Rock Island and Rio Grande lines. Short lines are great, what a score! My folks had an old Norge range that eventually couldn't be repaired when a burner went out, but I have a friend who still cooks on a 1950 Westinghouse

Does "flea market" mean you can't sell at retail prices? That seems outdated. Vendors pay for their space and can charge retail because buyers know collectibles come at a cost. The cheaper items are usually newer, not antiques and collectibles.
@TheAntiqueNomad3 ай бұрын
“Flea Market” really varies in definition depending where you are and what you sell. Some are a mix of goods like this one, where some resellers are liquidating old and new at wholesale, some are more vintage focused but may or may not be priced retail, and some are essentially antique dealers who don’t have another venue (especially in a high rent place like Vancouver). Other flea markets are still places that people just go to sell whatever and you will find cheap prices and possibly some real vintage bargains, but it’s not a retail venue. There were certainly some real deals on vintage at this one, in any event!
@written23823 ай бұрын
@@TheAntiqueNomad Thanks for clarifying! I’ve been to some nice flea markets where antique resellers price items like on eBay or at antique malls. I asked because many KZbinrs seem to sell at retail or even higher prices (IMO) at flea markets were they’re selling.
@TheAntiqueNomad3 ай бұрын
Yes, it’s compounded by the fact that some “flea markets” like the ones I sell at in Springfield Ohio and Portland Oregon promote flea markets in conjunction with huge antique shows, where really they are antique shows and not what I think of as a flea market at all
