The Secret Vintage Shop Supplying Hollywood's Coolest Props!

You haven't seen this place before, but you might have seen some of their cool vintage props on movies and TV shows! Under a bridge, in the basement of an old building on New Westminster, British Columbia's obscure Front Street is Antique Alley, a multi-generational vintage shop whose selection reflects many changes in collector tastes over its decades in BC's Royal City.
MCM furniture-a vibrant, colorful bench, a Hollywood Regency lamp table, a smoke-and-chrome 1970s set of occasional tables-is the first hint that this place has evolved with the times (although a stylish and practical 1930s English pub table is a nice throwback). Staffordshire figures and Gaudy Welsh still exist here, but vintage vinyl, big brass figures, a wall of Tupperware, painted ties and groovy pole lamps stand ready to fill a collector's home...or perhaps appear as a prop on your favorite show!
Multiple typewriters, record players, even a wall of chalkware reflect a depth in things that people like to collect, while a cool combination stereo/fire-place from the 1960s and a selection of megaphones would be fun on stage as well as in a home. We take a quick pass by the other two long-term shops in the town, then head back across the border to unpack and show all the cool stuff we've been finding on our Canadian shopping excursion!

Good evening, George. Those old monitor top fridges are really cool. They were made to last, too...unlike appliances today. That baby plate looked like a Punch & Judy design. I like the vampire tooth, and the jeweled Czech dresser box. Many of the items were just a little too modern for my tastes, but those items are doing well in the market. Great tour, George! Good morning George. Nice trip to the prop store. You picked some interesting glass items. I was in a Goodwill store ready to check out and the cashier asked if I had an email address. I said yes and I received 40% discount on my purchase. I bought a piece of Murano glass for less than $5! That will never happen again, I treasure my super bargain pretties. In Calgary, places like Goodwill only give that seniors discount of 15% . I’ve seen them give as high as 40% in places like Vegas . Value Village is 30% off on Tuesdays for ages 60 and over . How do thrift store prices compare to those in the US from your prospective ?

I loved the Dealer's Choice board game when I was a kid, also. I have not seen it 'out in the wild'. I guess that's one reason why I still gravitate toward board games to buy and sell. Some I keep. I recently added 'Ticket to Ride' to our collection. I still have a couple of board games from when I was a kid including Masterpiece and the original Go for Broke with my mother's handwriting on it. I was an 'Xmas' gift to one of my brothers.

I think a lot of folk around here (Vancouver) *used* to collect cups and saucers, but I suspect that the vintage stores are now stuck with quantities of it. It's just everywhere, very common in other words, and hard to display as a collection of any size, so I think it's largely gone out of fashion.
