Watch Appreciation - The Weird and Wonderful Collection of Mister Enthusiast

In this episode, we look at the watch collection of Phil Toledano, a very good friend of The Armoury, an artist with great taste in watches and cars and also host of the Viva Bastardo Show. Phil's collection spans multiple genres and styles and we ask him to go over his favourite pieces as well as his thoughts on collecting in general.

It took me around 10 years to truly understand and know what to look for when buying a vintage timepiece for my collection. Hearing Phil starts his collecting journey in 2015 and seeing a collection like that is genuinely impressive. It almost feels as if Phil knew what he liked and understood this hobby in great depth since day 1! Let's focus on something other than the watch brands he owns, as that will depends on personal preferences and budget. Still, the overall condition of his watches is in their original condition (unpolished, no redial, no relumed, etc.) and in absolutely great shape, genuinely revealing his passion and telling us how great of an art director he is.

i would love a rose dial or any floral elements on my watches. i think of those cartier cpcp dials with the guilloché rosette, and the floral engraving on the caseback of the original must de cartier tanks 🌹

I actually considered buying a Ressence. But the thing that put me off was that they're so specific - non standard crown, unique components, oil filled movement etc - that if something were to go wrong I imagine that they'd be the *only* watchmakers that could service and repair the watch. And if the company doesn't last... you'd be stuffed.
