MetallicA changed my life back in 1991, November 14th, at the Maple Leaf Gardens. When James walked out, and started the riff for Enter Sandman, the crowd of thousands erupted, and it was the craziest thing I'd ever seen. I thought to myself, THAT! That is what I wanna do! That moment made me decide to learn guitar, and I've since been on stage, and had the crowd go crazy from an opening riff, and it was everything I hoped it would be, and I can't get enough of it. James made me the musician I am today, and I'm forever grateful❤ MetallicA is the best!

Hello fellow amputee... i first saw Metallica live back in 1991, but the first show i saw as an amputee (also leg- BKA) was the Metallica 40th anniversary shows. it was a very cathartic experience. They have been a massive part of my journey as an amputee. i have seen them 12 times on this tour so far (three times in GA, once on the rail and once in the snake pit). The shows have been absolutely amazing. The best part about it is the community you build, and the friends you make. Say hi to your leg for me. Be well...

Hey Mike, night one I was able to be by James’s guitar tech, Chad, which was sweet to see all his guitars and surreal to see James nearly 5 feet away from me, I even tried to deflate a ball at the end but some lady took it from me. Second night I won pit tickets and it was even more surreal to “ride the stage” and see the band so clearly, I even saw you after the show and was surprised you recognized me from the Megadeth show, great video and here’s hoping Metallica returns!

Sounds like a great time. I learned a long time ago that being on the floor and close to the band sends most of the sound over your head. Opening acts always only get 25%-50% of the light and sound reinforcement, which really has to suck when it's a band like Pantera.

I love too,how the Load-era songs resonate better over time with people, having their live airings over time giving new leases of life, and separating those songs from the album and any perceptions of the band from that time. Fuel, Outlaw Torn, Hero of the Day, etc. Classic, brooding melodic Iommi enfused heavy rock. The Load-era songs are amazing live, and I think 72S has songs that will set in better over time too.🤘👍

I saw Metallica last year in Phoenix at State Farm Stadium. It was my 11th time seeing them. I go way back. First time I saw them was in 1983 at the Metro in Chicago. The last time I saw them was in 2021 at the Metro at the pop up show in Chicago before I moved out to the Phoenix Valley. Then I saw them last year in September. Lots of nostalgia and yeah that feeling of" well this may be the last time they tour..." Mammoth WVH was good. I hope they come back and play at a smaller place. The Pantera tribute was good. Again I saw the real deal in the 90's. It took me back. Metallica well they were fire that night. Great show.

I saw them once. "And Justice for All" tour, Thomas and Mack Center in L,V, , Faith No More opened for them As they were winding down, the lights were shutting down on stage until it was just the guitarist with one spot light on him , the rest of the stage was black, {they probably put up curtains). He played for several minutes with the volume getting lower. Then we hear another guitar join in (where is that coming from?) The two guitars are jamming together with the volume going up again and changing the style (still only one spotlight), then the spotlight is only on the new guitar player... Kirk Then the whole stage is lit up ( it had been changed to the "And Justice for All" stage) and then they continued to Kick Ass for 2 hours straight.

I know for sure that the experience of the build up to both nights, and the performances themselves will live in your hearts and minds forever. I only wish I could've been there to experience it with you all 😊. That slow bend part in Orion is just 👌🏻. Sad But True is so energetic and energising. We also went both nights, my 2 brothers and I. We flew all the way from Montana! It was such a great show. Especially because we don't even have a venue in our entire state that could house 70k people a night😅 . I was so impressed with metallica. Definitely was most excited for Pantera but all the openers were good (Andy James is one of my favorite guitarists pre-FFDP so it was awesome to see him and his success) the first night we were right on where the 50 yard line would be 3rd level and Honestly it wasn't bad! That stadium is so well designed that there really isn't a bad seat anywhere. On the 2nd night, we got the idea to look at floor tickets. Low and Behold, we got 3 floor tickets for $100 each day of and then sold our others! Being on the floor was WILD! You are right, Mike. GA was the best spot. Honestly, I'd give the show a solid 9/10!

Also be glad you weren’t at the MA show, we went to the second night and it took 2hrs to get from the parking lot to the highway. We were guests of the artist so we didn’t have to pay for tickets, but if anyone is debating between GA and snake pit I would personally go GA or very low level seating, unless you don’t mind spending the extra money.

i was in the snake pit at the second Seattle show, and the sound was great for me (i was right in the center between drums 3 and 4). i also wear those earplugs that filter out certain frequencies but still makes things clear, so that could be why. i love that when you're up close you can actually hear the acoustics of the instruments, versus what being put out via the sound system. Rob's bass is powerful! i don't even think the sound was bad here, but personally thought the sound was better in the snake pit in Seattle than GA (i was in GA/rail for both Foxborough shows). i was on the ADA platform for the first Seattle show (i forgot my prosthetic, so i decided to go on the platform), and it sounded great as well. it was like being in a larger club, still pretty intimate. The first leg of M72 i had seats, and the sound was great for me as well. i think it's because of every show, i've been pretty close to the towers, so there was no sound bouncing at all for me. i have also been in the snake pit prior to M72, and i feel like the pit on this tour is a bit easier to get around (since it is significantly larger than past snake pits). People tend to be a lot more chill in the snake pit, versus GA... where people ARE generally nice as well, but don't really care if you're disabled, a child, etc. when it comes to getting those picks! Seeing Metallica every time is like one big family reunion. i've made some great friends in this community.

Coming from a kid who got into guitar and Metallica only like 2 years ago, it was an absolute dream to take my dad to this show with me. Seeing Metallica was on his bucket list, he just never got the chance and he also never got really into them, was just a huge fan of the black album. Although he didn't know a lot of the songs, both of us had a great time, and it was essentially my first concert experience. Hoping this isn't the last Metallica show I get to go to.

I’ve seen Metallica at least 12 times over the years, starting in 1986 on the Puppets tour when they opened for Ozzy at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island. It was the only time I ever got to see Cliff live, since he died later that year. I saw them again in that same arena for the Justice tour and I sort of lost count over the years of how many times I’ve seen them live. I know I went to 2 or 3 nights in a row at Madison Square Garden for the Black Album tour as well. Metallica saved my life, literally. They, along with my best friend, were why I decided to learn guitar. I doubt I would have bothered if their music didn’t speak to me so much and inspire me. I used to practice for 3 hours+ a day easy when I was in middle school and high school. I was bullied a lot, and being able to come home, throw on a Metallica CD and just play along let me get a lot of aggression and emotions out. Sometimes things were so bad that I would put on Kill Em All and just play every song from every album straight until the end of Justice. If you know album lengths, that’s a good 5 hours or so of just banging out songs. If it weren’t for that, I know I wouldn’t be here. I would have definitely hit the off switch during those years. I joined the Metallica Club when it debuted, and I stayed a member because you could enter to win a meet and greet pass as well as get access to ticket sales before the general public. After 20+ years in the club, I finally won a meet and greet pass in 2009 for the Death Magnetic tour. I had an accident a year prior which left me disabled and in chronic pain, I was at an extremely low point in my life. Winning that meet and greet pass, knowing I was going to fulfill my lifelong dream of meeting them….it was incredible timing. At the meet and greet, James is the first one to come out, which is the worst case scenario. I wanted to get my nerves in check by meeting Rob or Lars first, but no. So I’m telling James how they saved my life and that he was the reason I picked up the guitar. He made a joke at sort of my expense and I just froze and then short circuited. I acted like a complete moron, fumbling my words, forgetting to take the plastic off the pick guard I wanted him to sign…it was a disaster. Even worse, it was recorded by someone on their staff and is at the beginning of the video on their channel for that night at that venue. My idiocy is immortalized on KZbin for all to see. All of them were incredibly nice. Rob was super humble and easy to talk to. I wish I could have met Jason, but I won the pass too late for that. Still, Rob was well worth meeting, was a great guy. Kirk was super shy, pretty quiet and listened a lot. Still was really nice to everyone. James was very outgoing, engaged with everyone and intimidating as all hell for me. He’s been my guitar idol for decades, so it’s difficult not to be a fanboy. Still, even though he embarrassed me with that joke, which wasn’t his intention I’m sure, he was just trying to make people comfortable and laugh, he was still really nice. Lars was the surprise for me. He was extremely nice and he truly made you feel like he was not only listening to what you were saying, but engaged with it. For someone who meets as many people as he does to be able to still make people feel that way is pretty incredible. He spent the most time shooting the shit with everyone and was so incredibly nice and chill to talk to. We had great seats for the show, not floor but the first tier and pretty close to the stage. My 70 year old step father came to that show with me. It was his first live concert of any kind, and he never listened to Metallica except for when I used to live at home and constantly played them. Between the meet and greet and having him there with me for the concert, it was a night I’ll never forget. He’s passed now, but I’m so happy he came with me. He enjoyed the show, he found it fascinating and remarked about how there seemed to be an energy in the air that the band fed off of and gave back to the crowd. That was the last show I went to, and I’ll likely never go to another one. My physical issues have worsened considerably and I’ve got some major anxiety and panic disorder issues now, which keeps me away from crowds. Throw in some agoraphobia and my concert days are pretty much over. At least the last show I’ll ever see live was with my pops, we had amazing seats and I got to fulfill my dream of meeting them. No future concert can top that night, so I’m happy I went out on a massive high note.

This Snakepit experience is awesome but opposite from mine. I sat in the Snakepit for 7 hours, leaving only once. Held my spot at the edge stage the whole time. James did the breakdown of puppets pretty much above me, lars high fived me, I got one of James' picks. Rob started his crowd surf right next to me. Awesome experience. (7 hours both nights, i felt it after)

Sounds like a great time. I've been a Metallica fan since I was 13yo back in 2004. So it sounds like heaven.

Great review Mike! Metallica is by far my favourite band. No one else comes close. They are brilliant! I live in Australia and I can't wait for them to come back. I've seen them twice and I love the feeling at a Metallica concert. I've been to 2 Metallica concerts. Without a doubt the best music experiences were at those 2 concerts. I love 72 Seasons. I think its a great album. The first track is killer live from I've seen and heard on the Metallica channel. They are soul reason i picked up a guitar. Seeing them live on the Binge and Purge videos. That changed my life so much. What a brilliant band and you did a great job of capturing the feeling of the show. Metallica is the GOAT for sure!!!

Awesome series Mike. I love these concert reviews. The only time I've ever seen Metallica live was in the early 90's. It was Candlebox, Suicidal Tendencies then Metallica. I remember feeling bad for Candlebox because the rowdy crowd was so pumped for Metallica that Candlebox basically got booed off the stage. It was a great show.

The bands all came onstage from the same way you entered the snake pit. I had GA tickets and the first night I ended up coming in while mammoth was playing unfortunately, but the next night I got the corner of the barricades right where everyone came onstage. I was headbanging like hell the whole time since I couldn't mosh without losing my spot. it was super sick-- I got to fistbump the guitarists from Ice Nine Kills and FFDP, and Lars waved at me when he went back onstage after he switched drumsets. Rob Trujillo also leaned into the audience while playing right behind me at the beginning of their set. There were little curtained off rooms under the stage where the members of Metallica went to get water between songs, and Kirk Hammet came out of the one right in front of me when the show started. I caught some guitar picks at the end. truly one of the best nights of my life. edit: wrote the comment before you said where they came onstage lmao-- also, no mention of Rob's killer Ozzy impression???

They played Blackened just like the album on the Justice Tour back in the day - so its possible to pull off live.

I saw Metallica live in LA literally one year to this date. They fuckin kicked ass man me and my dad went and it was a special moment for me and him. We didn’t have snake pit tickets but we had a good view of everything

It wasn't stupid for you to think Lux would open as Metallica lead w/ Hardwired on that tour. You didn't talk about or notice the fact Metallica's mix is unique to the position the band is to you. If Kirk is nearest you, his volume is raised in the mix. If Rob's near you, you'll hear more bass. It may have been tough to notice in the Snake Pit w/ the mixes lack of balls. I'm a headbanger, a little less these days after suffering brain trauma. With Metallica I go full on as they're my favorite so much so I have 21 Metallica tattoos. When Shadow's Fall came on in Foxboro everyone sat down in my lower bowl, end zone section as I went FUCKIN NUTS and popped. The song means so much too me. The new stuff sounds amazing live. Metallica now, like a lot of legacy bands, has an older audience who brings their younger family and friends. This causes the energy to go WAYYYYY low intensity wise. I rode a special event train to the stadium from downtown Boston and it was so fuckin' tame. Back in 03 / 08 that train would have been a wild party. Instead it felt like any other train w/ passengers stuck on their phones. It was sad, yet cool AF to see such a wide range of fans all coming together. CONS: energy is way different these days. Not once did I hear someone yell SLAYER in two fuckin' days. That's insane. Metallica's mix style where whoever is closest to you, you hear them more in the mix. IF Kirk wasn't in front of my, I'd completely lose him due to the -10db filter with my professionally molded ear protection. TOO MANY deep tracks in a row. You talked about having the energy sucked out of the place during the long stretch of new songs into the instrumental. I've seen Metallica play Nothing EM 35x and there's always a pop. However the pop on this tour when NEM comes have been insanely loud as the crowd gets energized from a song they love. It's awesome feeling the crowd come alive when ANY song from the Black Album is played. Awesome review, glad you had an amazing time w/ friends and family. I enjoyed Foxboro's night 2 ending up as one of my top shows of the 37 Metallica concerts I"ve been blessed to see.

General admission rocks, I always go there. We saw them in Madrid (my 6th and 7th time, travelled from Norway) We were maybe 15 feet from the rail with perfect sound, perfect view and zero "queue" to get there. Plenty of space despite being sold out and lots of moshing. Amazing camaraderie! Was sceptical about the round stage but it was fantastic from GA. Roll on number 8!!

I like the idea of taking the wristband and pick and putting them in a frame with a picture. The last time I saw Iron Maiden live my wife caught a pick from Dave Murray and I caught Adrian Smith’s wristband and we did the exact same thing!
