Great interview, with my friend Melvin Murphy, aka Hard Hustle! I met Melvin in December 2015 and he helped me after I had broke down, in a previous truck and wasn't able to fix it. I started off where he was leasing a truck and made enough money to get out of debt, save $300-$500 a week as I watched him pursue his dreams. The information he gives out is always honest and right on point! I've never seen anyone that was so knowledgeable about so much from money management, to painting, and being able to hear things in a engine better then a mechanic. I once saw him tell someone what was wrong with a guys truck by listening to it over the phone. Melvin doesn't like to see anyone paying extra money on things that he can help you with. I once found out that he has helped plenty of drivers change a alternator or starter to help them get back on the road for no charge. We've been pretty much talking about 5 years almost every day and never miss talking to each other for over a week. I ask a lot of questions and he has given me plenty of knowledge and understanding. Melvin won't just tell you something to be telling you, he will tell you what he knows to be facts!

Only thing I'd add is that just because your making great money as a company driver and see all the nice new equipment the company owns, don't assume you'll make money as an owner operator there. I got tired of it around more than a decade ago. I started to have an old cellphone that I could get for free from friends that otherwise would have been scrapped. Took the money and bought a used Swiss watch every year (Breitling, Rolex etc.) and since I had many I didn't put much wear on them, all in great condition. Last year I started to sell them, all of them so far has increased in value and made me a sweet profit.

I always hear drivers shouting out numbers of how much per month on a note however I never hear all the details...ie term, money down, etc. Not every company has the same lease program either. You have to take the lease term, terms of lease, end of lease residual, year of truck, etc etc into account. Retail sale is never ever the same as lease and serves a different purpose. Just speaking from bank finance experience in bank industry now with lease and retail funding. Asian Mai, I'd like to hear all the details if the drivers will share. Always enjoy your show.
