The floorstand for the TV works perfectly for raising the TV off the stand itself and allows the center to be mounted directly under the screen. I have the exact stand and using it on top of my entertainment center.

in regards to your tweeter height on the center channel with the front sound stage. As long as the tweeter in the center channel is pointed directly at the MLP this isnt as big of an issue as people make it out to be. Unless you are going acoustically transparent screen with LCR behind the screen there is really no other way to solve. I have had dedicated theaters for over 20yrs now and Having a high quality Center Channel positioned correctly is spliting hairs against tweeters all aligned. having your center cramed in a media console like yours. Yes anything would be a huge improvement. I would have traded out stands to get the center channel out of the shelf space.

Nice video Brad. I'm thinking about using fabric in my shelving system where I place my center channel to stop resonances. I have a thick curtain behind my center channel, blocking a window like you also. Manual EQ can really help with this too. I've found that never boosting a center channel below around 350hz ish is a good idea. I'm testing different levels of boosts there right now. Like, using 25% of the EQ value in the 300hx to round 140hz region. Getting this right stops resonances, especially in female voices. Make voices, believe it or not are not the issue, its actually female voices is where you lose clarity from resonances. So fabric, and EQ should clear everything up.

I’m using a similar mount for my TV and it’s given me more than enough room to move the center speaker up to that top level of the entertainment center. It works well. Sounds like you have fun upgrades ahead!

You mentioned trying out separates; however, Gene and Theo (Audioholics) were just talking about moving away from separates and just having a heavy-duty receiver that does it all. Of course, if you have speakers that require big power, then you may need a separate amp. But in general, modern receivers (top of the line at least) should be able to handle just about anything.

Go Brad!!!! I deal with a center speaker in credenza cabinet unit. But I mount the TV all the same on the wall. I put sorbathane gel feet to reduce cabinet to cabinet resonances. I love those mini compression socks only way to recline and relax.

Interesting talk on center channel height. I agree fully but by that logic, towered home theater speakers are essentially a dismal choice because you'd need to raise the middle of the screen much higher than the recommended height of 42 inches. The video and audio guys at odds here.

Great to see content from you again! I used your method of gain matching subs with my miniDSP, as it gave better results in my room than Home Theater Gurus way. So thanks alot for your guide about minidsp. The part about growing up poor really hit home with me, and as a blue collar worker I really have to work for it and try to spend it wisely. Work hard to play hard :) 'Scribed for life!

Good video! Yeah, that center speaker definitely needs more room. Everything is always a balance of tradeoffs and sometimes it can be challenging to make it all work out but it sounds like you have it under control. Looking forward to the next update!

Hey Brad. Glad to see you back here. I was about to send out the trackers to find you. hehe. Center channel? I have not had my center speaker connected for a few months and I don't miss the "up-down" movement of audio one bit. I built 14 inch high bases for my towers to get my tweeters up to the 1/3rd line/portion of my wall mounted TV and it sounds great. I moved the towers to a 9 foot separation which forms the equal leg triangle from the MLP and that helped also. The phantom center image between the L-R speakers is actually fun to listen to. Now the front soundstage is wide and fluid. With all of that I'm thinking center speakers are likely overrated. As far as separates go; you shouldn't be surprised when you find out that you've been missing out for so long. The sonic dynamics and detail come out in a big way. Like cars - it's about power and control. Have fun with your upgrades and I wish both you and Trish all of the very best in life, Kevin

Nice set up, I have a 5.4.4 in a similar sized room, even had my 75” Vizio on roller stand until I finally mounted it, I also got a powered 120” screen that drops down in front of it. Nothing too fancy but I like the options.

That's where I'm hoping to head at some point. I'm in no hurry but wouldn't mind some type of projection system for movies (and obviously reviewing projectors haha).

Hi Brad, please post a video on the stand. I, too, am in that situation but thought the floor stand would tip over or wouldn't have the clearance needed to clear the monster center channel speaker I have (R400 Polk). I did find tv stand legs on Amazon that are adjustable to clear the sides and top of the speaker. I would like the tv to go back further than it is now. Thanks for the update video on your space.

My dad just did this exact upgrade per my recommendation. He's getting a new TV and it doesn't come with a stand (LG g series) and due to the only place he can put a TV being in the corner, wall mounting isn't feasible because it would have to be like 5 feet off the wall. He also moved the center channel from basically on the floor to on top of the stand and said sound was massively better. His setup still has some big issues (mainly LR separation) but he's about as good as he can get in his space now. Also looking forward to the manual calibration video. Have you reached out to joe-n-tell to review his magic beans calibration app? Would be interested to hear your thoughts on it.

I have the same issue with my center channel (in console) and want larger but it would be blocking TV. Only way around is to mount TV over the window it sits in front of it. Can be done but a hassle.

I ran into this same issue with the center channel. The Echogear tv feet stand is perfect to allow the center speaker on top of the feet with some isolation pads to angle as you please

Feels like you could save a good amount of space by NOT having 4 bog ass PB-4000 subs in that small room! Lol I would think 4 PB-1000 or any of the SB series subs would be more than enough for that sizeroom.

You’re definitely not wrong haha. But something to note here is that, as a product reviewer and someone who reviews subwoofers, I really do need space for larger subwoofers. Otherwise I’d be in the same situation as I have been with my center channel since we moved in. I’d end up having to turn down subwoofer reviews simply because I can’t fit them in the room. If I no longer did product reviews, then I’d be far more selective as to what subs I chose as my permanent subwoofers. As it stands, and something I also didn’t mention, is that these subs are still on long-term loan from SVS. They are not mine. So they may be swapped out soon for something else. However, like you said the SB version would probably be better for this room (fun fact: I’m actually running the two PB-4000s in the front and the two PB-3000s in the rear in sealed mode). So I may actually reach out to SVS and see if I could check out and review the sealed variants of these subs as well. Would be a fun comparison.
