I am embarrassed and ashamed to admit that I used to think just like Antonio. From the time I was a child, I was told what to believe and not to question it. Up until then, I had not read the Bible for myself, but only cherry-picked verses taught by my church. I had assumed everything in the Bible was just true. At Thanksgiving dinner with my family in 2003, I got into an argument about theism and homosexuality with my gay nephew, who was never a believer. I very arrogantly thought I had the moral high ground over him and everyone else who was not a believer. He very calmly encouraged me to read the entire Bible for myself, so I did just that believing it would reaffirm my position. It took me 18 months, but when I was finished, I could not function for 4 months after. I was so filled with rage, so angry, and so hurt that I had been LIED to about the goodness and love of this God. What I read in the Bible had nothing to do with love. It was about a deity that advocated for sexism, racism, misogyny, war, human sacrifice, slavery, and the senseless unaliving of sentient babies and children. No matter how hard I tried, I could NOT do the mental gymnastics required to defend such an evil deity. Right there began my deconstruction. I refuse to believe any divine being inspired the disgusting mess that is the Bible. If anyone should be judged and beg for forgiveness, it is Jehovah/Yahweh/Allah, not people. If anyone should suffer eternal damnation, it is this deity. What it did to Bathsheba's baby son is pure evil. Don't even get me started on the rest. I profusely apologized to my nephew, and we are now closer than ever.

I applaud you for having the strength and integrity to change your mind when presented with conflicting data, it's not an easy thing for a vast number of humans . People don't often admit they were wrong and apologise for their wrongdoings. I'm glad you were able to admit to yourself that the God you were indoctrinated to believe is a monster and that you were able to make amends with your cousin. I have enormous respect for anyone who has the strength to deconstruct, coming from a secular country and home I can't relate on a personal level but I certainly see the damage and trauma of those abused and traumatised by organised religion and my heart goes out to you all.

For this story to even be remotely plausible in a literal sense, anyone with any knowledge of science would have to believe that the way things work wasn't how they worked 'in the beginning', and that for some reason God decided to change it while leaving no evidence of doing so. For example, one would have to believe that the genetic problems that would arise from a whole population coming from just two people, with all the incest that would entail, simply weren't an issue then.

Lilith, she was reportedly also made from dust like Adam too right? She was created as Adams equal, Eve was created from Adam and was definitely not created as Adams equal. Christians want to perpetuate the myth that women were created to be subservient to men. It doesn't fit the Christian narrative to mention that Lilith was Adams equal in every way so they don't.

The smallest stars mass needs to be 80 times the mass of our solar systems largest planet Jupiter. To put it in perspective, the red dot on Jupiter where the storm has been raging for hundreds of years is almost twice the size of Earth. Ain't no stars capable of falling to earth, we would be obliterated outright if a star were ever to even come close to earth.

And there is not a single star smaller than the earth, the lower end of the star spectrums mass requires a star to be 80 times the size of our largest planet Jupiter. If a star somehow defies physics and falls to the earth half the solar system would be wiped out if not the entire solar system.

Im starting to think people like this physically don’t have the ability to comprehend words with more than 3 syllables. These people have less than grade school levels of scientific/actual literacy when it comes to defending their core beliefs. When they spit out their pre packaged word salad of vaguely scientific sounding terminology that they themselves don’t know the meaning of, Forest and Mike assume more of these callers intelligence than is warranted. You have to start from step ZERO. Talking to these people like they know what “colloquial” means when they misuse the term ‘theory’ guarantees that your point goes over their head without internalizing any concepts you tried to convey. Engaging with theist arguments for a large chunk of my life, and how little they’ve changed, taught me just how predictable human behavior is; if you grow up in a cult that bludgeons away at your sense of critical thinking from the day you’re able to understand spoken language, then it’s not at all surprising that these same people grow up to be easily afraid, conspiratorial, and fundamentally uncurious people that repeat obviously untrue statements without a second thought. Sometimes it’s not that complicated, sometimes people are just lost.

Every time someone pulls the ol' sharpshooter fallacy, it’s like listening to nails on a chalkboard. They’re so locked into their flawed logic that no matter how many objections are raised, it’s like we’re speaking a different language-straight in one ear, zooming right out the other. J-Mike broke down the problem with this guy’s argument in detail, but when he hit him with 12:57 "Do you see what I mean?"-nope, dude just kept going. And that last bit? Where he tried to use their answer to "what does theoretically mean?" Oh man, it was peak cringe. I don’t get it-why do theists do this? The second their weak ass arguments are shredded to pieces, they get all in their feelings. But instead of just gracefully accepting the L, they scramble for one last “gotcha” moment, as if they’re whispering “checkmate, atheists” on the way out. It’s sad... like watching someone trip and pretend it was part of their dance routine.

You shouldn't allow his claim that science operates on the process of elimination. That just sets you up to allow an argument from ignorance.
@OceanusHelios
@OceanusHelios 2 сағат бұрын
Process of elimination is known as deductive reasoning. Science, by and large, uses inductive reason. This goes something like, "Looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, behaves like a duck....therefore it is likely that it is a duck." Sherlock Holmes, the character, uses mostly inductive reasoning, despite the author's claims to the contrary.

Even if he was right about the correlation of the rib, that would only explain why Adam and therefore men have the same number of ribs. Cool. Show me where a rib grows a human. Because a human can regrow a rib is not the same as a rib regrowing a human.

The bible proves that the bible exists, it doesn't prove god or unicorns. Same thing with the quran. Some believers are like, where does my computer come from or that tree there, must be god. So they invent a powerful wizard to explain the existence of something

like always... people need to REALLY sit down and hash out how they determine truths. not even asking for the correction to a more solid grounding for determination... just what THEY PERSONALLY ... at the very moment , use to determine what they know to be true. - myself as an example. of course i take things on authority at times and believe things that have bad evidence or that i am just behind on the times with. and those are not good reasons to believe something. often these are on topics that do not really matter to me though. when a topic of significance to me comes around... i try to actually investigate it. i try to determine reliable sources and if i REALLY care i try to get primary sources. otherwise i try to stay educated on topics as to not fall too far behind on consensus for things. the thing i try to do is hold consistency, and acknowledge were inconsistencies exist in my thinking. trying always to tease out those inconsistencies.

Reminds me of deadpool who can grow things back when talking about ribs and the sandman from spiderman who is made of sand when talking about adam and mud or dirt.Even if there was a flood that doesnt mean noahs ark story was true or the epic of gilgamesh which has some similarities and both may have been taken from even older stories. science could not possibly verify the creation or the serpent talking to eve or lots wife being turned to a pillar of salt etc.Thats what i dont understand normally people if on jury for example would looks at both sides and evidence and would make a decision they would not just say i believe someones innocent or guilty because i have faith .
