I love it when theists accuse me of dismissing evidence in favor of a predetermined conclusion, while telling me they believe in something regardless of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

I think that because his world view starts with the conclusion and works backward he found it hard to comprehend someone who's mind works the other way. Like when he said they explain away the supernatural because not believing in supernatural things is their world view.

I gotta give Dre some props for being respectful-for the most part-but let’s be real, debating just isn’t his thing. They spent 47 minutes on that call and barely scratched the surface. Honestly, I had a feeling it was going to be a rough ride within the first 90 seconds. The moment a theist calls in and decides to quiz atheists instead of presenting their own argument and defending their beliefs, you already know it's either about to go off the rails or we’re stuck running in place like we’re on a conversational treadmill. Maybe, just maybe, Dre will hit the books and actually do some homework before calling back in. I mean, it’s unlikely, but hey, if more callers took that route, these follow-up calls would be a lot smoother. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll get a debate that isn’t just a scenic tour of nowhere!

@Mr_Porter
@Mr_Porter Ай бұрын
@@Wh40kFinatic Here’s what I noticed: Dre only started getting all condescending and arrogant after the hosts hit him with solid rebuttals. Honestly, that’s par for the course on this show. I could probably count on one hand the number of callers who roll in thinking they’ve got the ultimate truth and are actually open to pushback. Those callers are a rare breed, but we’ve had a few here and there over the years. Most of the time, you’ve got these overly confident folks who, the moment their argument gets poked full of holes, start to lose it. That’s when you see the frustration creep in. They interrupt more, deflect, and do whatever they can to avoid admitting they were way less prepared than they thought. It’s all about saving face at that point. Now, to Dre’s credit, even though he didn’t get loud and wild like some of these other callers once their position crumbles, I did respect that he let the hosts lay out their counter-arguments without turning into a complete jerk. At least he had some composure!

Some people like the aspect of pvp and thinking on the fly, which could be done in any game, but Minecraft definitely lets you be a lot more creative about it. At school we used to have an hour each week of religious instruction. We were separated into two groups, Catholics and others. If you weren't a Christian, tough luck I guess. Well when one priest or minister or whatever he was turned up I asked him a question. He couldn't answer it satisfactorily and got rather angry with me. I was about eleven the guy got pretty intimidating about it. I thought if he can't answer a question without losing it then it's probably all a lot of BS. He even reported me to the headmaster as a trouble maker. I became an agnostic about then and read the bible much more than any of them would have expected. Then each week I'd have another question to ask just to be a nuisance about it. I bet they were all glad when I moved up to secondary school two years later. By then I was a full on atheist and nothing in my life since has ever lead me to doubt my decision. In fact everything continually reinforces my lack of a belief in a god or gods. Funny thing is, I don't even remember what my original question was.

Atheism tenets (e.g. big bang, abiogenesis, mistakes (mutations) gaining in complexity/new information, star formation, evolution) I debunk w/ ease. Any belief re the cause of this universe is a religion and you've tagged yourself an "atheist" because you believe atheist ideas re the cause of this universe (nature: time/space/matter/energy. You also believe that evolution is the "controlling power" over life, instead of God. THAT is religion. Either you have a RATIONAL POSSIBLE world view or you don't. To be an atheist and have no factual basis for your cult is to be content to be even more lost and clueless than yesterday. Why do you cling so desperately to an asinine atheist cult that's INFAMOUS the world over for having ZERO ANSWERS? Could you be more lost and clueless? In my view, one is engaging in "worship" , merely by having a positive attitude towards God regarding a beautiful sunset or something. While in the armchair at home, enjoying good health. 16:47 another thing about the flood myth to consider is - humans lived and had some early civilizations when the last ice age glaciers were receding. And when a glacier is receding you quite often have glacial lakes forming. Then the huge top area of a glacier is melted into water but all that water got trapped in a basin of some sort. So it builds up to basically have sea worth of water. And then a wall of that basin breaks and the surrounding areas get flooded. A human civilization that witnessed such an event would be highly traumatised. And there would be multiple stories of whole tribes being wiped out with only like one family of survivors getting stranded in the water for what feels like a year before they got washed a sore and met other people to share their story. And with primitive mindset such events are bound to be interpreted as wrath of God and remembered for the generations to come...

I might have been an annoying child at times, asking about everything, but they always took their time to explain what they could and admit when they didn´t know. I´m 53 now and I have never encountered ANYTHING that points to the existence of a god of any kind. I think I understand why people believe. For some reason I remember one day as he and I were driving out of the driveway in our 1940 Ford I asked him, "Daddy, what's a pioneer?" I think I was around 5 or 6 years old. He also pointed out stars, constellations, planets to me. He encouraged reading, learning. He patiently answered every question. He was brought up in a very religious household and hated and rejected it. I dabbled in going to church for a bit as a teen. He said nothing about it, never discouraged me. My siblings and I all grew up to be atheists. So are my children and grandchildren. My mom was nurturing and kind. She added the compassion and grace to our lives. She was not well educated, but my father admired her so much that he bragged about her for who she was. I am a very lucky person.

@@jjbud3124 Sounds like you had as nice a childhood as me. We are lucky. The best gift you can give your children is your love and integrity. I have 2 children (adults 24 and 27) and my wives son (19) from earlier marriage. They are all well functioning, social, caring and knows good from bad. They are all atheists I think. I have never heard any of them talk about any god other than when we are humorous. The universe is wonderful enough without the need of invented explanations. Answer your kids when they ask, no matter what. If you know about the question, tell what you know, if not, find out together. It is important for kids to hear adults saying "I don´t know...lets find out!". Seeking knowledge side by side with kids is fantastic.

@@ZeitgeistOmega THAT is the real concern, isn't it? We all agree in the reality of our experiences. If we see something wrong, such as mass deaths, we can call it wrong. And if we see someone who's acting wrong, we can at least argue to why the harm that they are causing is wrong. But a theist can always invoke their god to justify what they do. They could commit the most horrendous acts, but we have no way to argue against their justifications. They can just proclaim, "muh gawd", and the conversation ends. You can't convince that terminating an unwanted pregnancy is not "murdering" a baby. But if their view is that their god makes a fertilized egg a human, then you can't stop them from seeing all pro-choicers as murderers.

Oh for fucks sake🤦🏼‍♂️ I live on the west coast of Canada. Just the other day I was at the beach. It was bright and sunny until the sun went behind a really large series of dark grey clouds, and it got surprisingly dark for the mid afternoon. Add in a few decades of embellishment until it was written down, and believers REALLY wanting to prove that their imaginary friend exists…and voila, you get people believing in supernatural sky darkeners. 🙄

What no one brought out and what completely destroys the claim of this globally aware black sky is the fact that if cultures around the world recorded this event as he said then the scholars could all pinpoint the exact date this happened. In turn having a cataloged date of the resurrection. This would be the most significant historical cataloged date in all of Christianity.

I believe a jury can vote to convict based on such testimony alone. Particularly if it's from multiple witnesses and if the jury considers the testimony to be true beyond a reasonable doubt. I don't know law very well though so I may be wrong. Remember law and common sense and logic don't always overlap.
@Pohgrey
@Pohgrey 6 күн бұрын
@theboombody a jury CAN vote to convict, but if it's not backed by evidence and it's testimony alone, good luck. A good lawyer can make convincing counter arguments, and actual evidence (or lack thereof) can refute any amount of testimony. The presumption is of innocence until proven guilty, and if the evidence is lacking, or there's even some evidence to the contrary, it's an uphill battle.

@theboombody my point that testimony alone isn't good enough still applies. You need evidence to go with it to secure a conviction. Especially evidence that it's even possible to begin with. We don't lock people up on testimony alone unless you can demonstrate that it's at least somehow possible.
