You live your whole life denying God, you refuse to accept Jesus as your personal Lord & savior which He said is the only way to heaven then at the end of your life you demand to live at his house(Heaven). It would be a very short program, why? It takes a lot of time and work to change a core belief system, epseially ones engrained since early childhood. Most christians don't have a desire to question their faith. Think about it. Most people are exposed to relgious doctrine (dogma) before they could speak. They hear it from their parents (a child's first God) and at church services. What choice does a child have except to accept it as truth? Put simply, you'll never hear a christian say: "I coud be wrong in my belief system on religion" or "come to think of it, maybe there is no God." Put another way, if you're a devout christian, you don't dare question your faith or risk burning in hell, right? Religion is nothing more than an effective philosphy or means to control what people believe and how they should live in a particular society. Religion also satisfies the human need to socialize or to belong to a tribe of like-minded people. Finally, religon failed to answer questions on the origins of mankind and the universe with nothing more than mystical nonsense.

@@pwabd2784 There is this regular caller named Otangelo (from Brazil) who will make you want to pull your hair out. He calls in with the most obnoxious and disingenuous arguments you will ever hear.
@dmc62623 жыл бұрын
It wasn't spot on. To restate his analogy: "If you speak too loudly, I'm going to hit you (she then speaks loudly and you hit her), is that her fault?" Yes it would be the wife's fault (though not sole fault) she was hit because she knew the consequences ahead of time. Whether she wants to be hit or deserves it is irrelevant - she chose an action she knew would result in her being hit. She's then responsible for the outcome. His analogy has an emotional aspect to it that instinctively engenders support for the wife but his logic is flawed and can be seen through a comparable analogy that strips out the empathy for the protagonist. You tell a person that if he commits murder he will go to prison. He commits a murder and ends up in prison - is that his fault? Yes - it's the state that's responsible for sending him away, but he is also responsible by virtue of his actions. He may not want to go to jail and in this case deserves it, but it's also his fault, much like it's the wife's fault.
@rinat19853 жыл бұрын
@@dmc6262 his point is that wife didn't have a right to vote for this rule and this rule is highly likely to be broken, people didn't have right to vote that if person believes in what christianity declares he'd go to heaven and if not, to hell, and god didn't give us any really good evidence, so it's highly likely that there would be an enormous number of people who don't believe or believe in something else, then it's not personal choice, it's more like a cruel trap
@dmc62623 жыл бұрын
@@rinat1985 His point is invalid. And it doesn't matter if the wife has a vote or say in the matter. All that matters is a) whether she knows & understands the consequences and b) knowingly follows actions that lead to those consequences. She would be at fault in a cause and effect way, not necessarily in a moral sense (depends on context). Matt's error is assuming the guilt or fault lies solely with the party making the rules. It doesn't. However, in his analogy, one side has knowledge of the outcome (a determinant of fault), the other doesn't. That's where you are partially right and were he should have gone with it. We ourselves are not at fault if we end up in hell, simply because the rules for salvation haven't been demonstrated to be true (we therefore lack knowledge), and not because the rules have been imposed on us, like you and him suggest. Matt makes a lot of reasoning errors in this video - which is rare. For example he attempts to invalidate Jesus's crucifixion as being a sacrifice because it only lasted a day and a half and because he would return to being God anyway - labelling it a "bad weekend". Further comparing it to starting with $100m, setting it aside for a couple of days yet returning to your $100m in a couple of days. A) While there are degrees of sacrifices, a sacrifice having been made is not contingent on it's duration nor the level of the reward. B) Setting aside $100m for a couple days - you are losing potential investment returns, incurring opportunity cost and generally the ability to spend (potentially catastrophic if that $100m constitutes all you have). He should have argued the degree of sacrifice rather than it's existence.

I feel your pain. My catholic father passed in February and just got even more stubborn in his older age. We used to fight over religion a lot and he actually yelled at me for blowing holes in his beliefs. My favorite was Gandhi and Hitler. He refused to believe that Gandhi is burning because he brought peace to India while the other guy could be singing with the angels as he was raised catholic. Another stickler was divorce and remarriage. I had a friend who's mom was married before. My parents liked his parents as they were good people. I never asked what happened as it wasn't any of my business but I asked dad if she was divorced on grounds other than spousal infidelity before marrying my friend's father if he thought it appropriate that they burn for eternity together. It's really sad how indoctrinated people can be.

I never started the fights but I always took the bait as I began to stick up for my self-respect and dignity. I'm also gay and had one hell of a time accepting it. I didn't speak to him for the last year of his life due to a major blowout. I wish him well in the afterlife and did attend the funeral. It's really sad we never had a good relationship, but I try to focus on the good he provided and the accolades he earned - which were many. Jeffrey Dahmer kidnapped, sexually assaulted 17 men, then tortured and killed them, some of them he even nibbled on. You have proven to me that your sense of morality is far more superior compared to a so-called God's asserted sense of morality, in which apparently none of the demonstrable good that you do matters, and for that matter none of the cruelty that people do, matter either -- apparently all that matters if if you accept God as the one god, and love him unconditionally -- especially when, if you don't accept him, he will put you in hell. Theists cannot prove the superiority of god's morality. Nor do they often try. They simply assert, and they are stuck on that. That's sadly what God is about: truly blind acceptance without question. Including blindly accept that you must blindly accept without question. But I do question. By my free will, I must question. And my first question to that is why should we blindly accept.

@Never-ending party Pretty negligent and stupid of God to leave the tree of knowledge in plain sight with easy access by Adam and Eve whom were innocent, ignorant and essentially adult children alone without supervision. Not only that but he knew Satan was there in the garden and would trick them. As a metaphor he basically left a loaded gun alone with toddlers with the knowledge that their deranged older sibling would tell them that it's ok to play with it. That would land any parent in prison or at least have their kids taken away for gross negligence. But of course God can't be the bad guy here, and the biblical story is far worse than my metaphor because by God's "Infinite wisdom" humanity and earth /had/ to be cursed to suffer pain and death through untold misery due to the single action of adult babies that didn't know good from evil before they ate from the tree. If God didn't want this to happen why put the tree in the garden? He setup humanity to fail to begin with and than punishes us because we did exactly what he knew would happen. Sounds pretty sick if you ask me.

Ohhh I didn't realize I choose to go there! Well let me just let any gods know now, that despite me not believing in them, I would like to not go to any hell and would prefer my life to be as comfortable as possible. So now that that's out of the way, no one can possibly say I send myself to hell right? Only a totally dishonest person would argue that, right?

Thinking about it I’d probably prefer hell - in heaven you spend all your time worshiping god (don’t like the idea of pleasuring him without getting paid lol) with a bunch of god bothering creationists. while in hell you would get to spend time with Hitchens and co and chances are Satan wouldn’t be that bad - if you read the bible he is the good guy compared to god

I'm not a Christian, but I do believe in God very strongly, and I can tell you first hand that worshipping such a being is something that comes completely naturally when you see how beautiful, kind and loving she really is. But the afterlife isn't just worship. It's all the things you find joy in. 🥰

This was very similar to that caller long ago who got offended when Matt used the f word. Also him acknowledging he will never beat his wife because he loves her should make him realize that he is morally superior and that he never thought of it like that. This dude was so dishonest and blind. It was just sad. He just had called with the purpose of trolling. Kudos to Matt for his patience.
