WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?
The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.
The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

Evolution could not have occurred if it wasn't for better adapted organisms having the ability to completely replace the former population with their better adapted DNA. Species must evolve in populations with the same gene pool. Immortal organisms don't exist at least for the reason that they wouldn't have been able to update their gene pools. Death had to be inexorable even if only due to predation. BTW, Earth isn't overpopulated with humans yet. Those predictions have been delayed by advances in agriculture including genetic engineering, better fertilizers and pesticides, more third world countries progressing economically and being able to afford highly mechanized and scientific farming methods etc.

Dragnauct Sylvas: Clever, calm, composed and captivating. Love to see more of this guy. Asks intelligent questions which cut to the core of the issue....... Great job Matt, as always.

@Dave Jacob, you’d have a point, if the caller were actually thinking. He was parroting crappy arguments he heard elsewhere, none of them were leading anywhere, and anybody who’s listened to a few of these idiotic “arguments” would already know that. Very rarely does a theist trying to prove a god exists come up with anything worth listening to if you let them keep talking, and there’s a very good reason for that. It doesn’t take a lot to work out that if there were any sort of relevant to humanity deity we would all believe in it because its existence would be readily apparent, and would have been for centuries at the very least.

They have been thoroughly beaten time and time again. Matt wasn’t cutting him off. Rather, he attempted to help the caller craft a sound argument. Why would Matt allow him to ramble on with flawed premises (especially premises we’ve all heard and are absolutely tired of hearing)? This “A. Radical” person was dishonest from the start, and he grew increasingly agitated that he couldn’t force the hosts to have this conversation within the confines of his shoddy, shoddy framework. Why on earth would Matt go down that road (again) if he already knew it was the wrong direction?

"Evolutionary adaptations exist and not through the will of their owners, therefore God." "Every animal is perfect for its environment, therefore God." Evolution is an endless goal. The environment constantly changes, therefore life must constantly adapt to it. There is no such thing as "perfection" unless there was an environment that never changes (not possible) or an organism that can change form at will for any environment (like the Zerg for example, which do not exist). The caller does not realize he refuted himself. "Hawks have better eyesight than humans in terms of distance." Yes, so what? They need distance vision to hunt from the air, more accurately their ability to track movement is keen. Humans do not hunt from the air and we were not at the top of the food chain before we mastered fire and tools. We were hunted by big cats, so we needed good color and binocular vision to make them out. "If there was no death, there would be overpopulation, therefore God." This makes the assumption God made overpopulation a problem to be solved by death. This is very stupid. God could have made overpopulation a non-factor by making everyone gay or incapable of overproducing. This also assumes overpopulation is no longer a problem because of death, which is demonstrably false. It is still a huge problem. Also, if organisms were perfectly adapted to their environment, they wouldn't die now would they? I don’t think you understand the implications of “no death”. If there was no death then there would be no life. What were you before you were born? I can answer it for you; you were dead. You were dead for an infinite amount of time, then born for a limited amount of time, and soon will die for an infinite amount of time. Without death, everything that could possibly exist would exist and it could never change because then that would be death of something. An all-existing never-changing world can’t bring experience. It would be frozen in time, stuck. This is why you, the infinite creator called consciousness, created life and death to begin with. They are inseparable opposing aspects, like two sides of a coin, that must exist together or not at all, and the relationship between them is what people call God or singularity or Karma, just to name a few.

If there was no death, how would you define over-population? If there was no death, obviously life would be very different. If there was no death, what need would there be for reproduction? Whatever life was on the planet would have had to come about through some means, and then just never die. There was no indication that the guy was even talking about human life. What if there was no death, but the world was covered with single-celled organisms? Would they reproduce sexually? Would they stop multiplying if the supply of nutrients ran out? By suggesting death is an intelligent creator's solution to overcrowding, you are implying there is an option to create life that does not die. We clearly have no examples of life that does not die. If it were true, you could jump from a plane, walk through a wildfire, cut off your head and still live. You would have no need for food. It would completely redefine what life is. In addition, even if we grant that a creator intelligently designed death for this purpose, having a birth rate greater than death rate, which has been the case for most of history, will continue to grow the population ever larger and ultimately (given finite space) cause overcrowding, making the solution not very intelligent.

Not true. The Jellyfish when it grows old reverts to a younger version of itself. It can be killed by a predator or a motor boat blade but not by old age. And viruses don't die. And the same with the whole junk about death, if there was no death, animals would evolve to reflect that, or they will die out because their environment couldn't sustain them. But there is a HUGE difference between a world where animals didn't die from the start (lets clarify this, from age because or else all feeding and extreme injuries is just...dumb) and the current world suddenly had death removed. The world and it's animals in it will adapt to this, over time. If they don't, they will die out one way or another.

@Mike Willett I don't think anyone asking Matt not to curse is doing so because they think it's what the bible says/what god wants specifically. It seems to me that appealing to Catholicism often translates to a persons overall perception regarding the manner in which they conduct themselves. In other words: A "god wants me to be nice" sort of motivation. My comment is more of a joke revolving around idiots needing a god for motivation to be nice...and it also pokes fun at the belief itself.
