Friday at the farm

Today we celebrated Lexi the Kelpie’s 7th birthday. Lexi had a super special birthday at the farm getting to spend a couple of nights sleeping over with her sister Tilly. They’ve enjoyed big fun active days at day care, hanging out with the girls in the afternoon playing until the sun goes down and then snuggling up on the couch. This morning they got up early and went for a birthday bush run and then afterwards enjoyed yummy freshly baked brekky pupcakes! Happiest of birthdays to you Lexi!
It’s not Friday without Gilbert the Weimaraner finding objects to parade and lure us to chase him. Those that have followed us for a while now would know that the ultimate prize, the prize of all prizes is Uncle Luke’s hat. Sure it’s a challenge. Anything that good doesn’t come easy. Well today was the day. The opportunity presented itself, his mate Franky the Vizsla gave him a little help and it all fell into place. What’s better than Uncle Luke’s hat? Well Uncle Luke and the whole pack chasing you around in the big paddock. Best day of Gilbert’s life.
And then to top it off it was Pizza Friday, do days ever get any better?
Farm Dogs in the Spotlight...
Hopey is a 7 year old Huntaway X Smithfield and has been coming to the farm since we began. He’s built to muster sheep over long distances, over many days through very rugged, mountainous terrain. It’s no surprise that his favourite activity at the farm is bush runs. He doesn’t like to stick to the paths, he makes his own way and it always looks like he’s right at home doing what he loves best.
Back in the day Hopey was known for catching a tennis ball on the full at a long distance. You could bet your bottom dollar he’d be under it and caught before it hit the ground. These days he lets the younger dogs through and hangs more to the back of the pack for the ones that slip through the pack.
Hopey is a fit boy who doesn’t like to sit still, not even for 3 minutes whilst Uncle Luke talks about him. A real farm dog through and through.

Bandit had such a definite personality. You almost think he’s going to talk ! And the birthday cakes were so yummy! Do you use Charlie’s Chariot to go on the Bush walk very often? another brilliant day with the dogs......always make me smile....love all the dogs especially Frankie when he jumps into the lake. I haven't been allowed to leave my house since mid March because of the Covid-19 I have been 'shielded' due to my age and chronic lung condition making me vulnerable. I have literally left my house for maximum 12 hours since mid March. Fortunately, these videos have kept me going. However, I am happy to say that I can finally go back to work on 1st September so fingers crossed I'll be ok. Keep the videos coming as they are the highlight of my day. Where is Amy by the way?
