This is a Type A teacher haha! Great work. Our self-contained groups are 12 students, 1 full time assistant and teacher, 1 part time paraeducator! 1:1 ratio like this is the dream.

Thanks! Yes can definitely be tricky with a lower staff ratio.

This is amazing. I used similar scheduling in my mainstream class this year and looking forward to using individual schedules in my self contained class in September! Schedules and visuals are everything!!

Wow. This seems like a lot! I worked with students who have autism for 5 years. I don't remember it being so intense. I suppose it's a lot easier once you get the hang of it.

Question time: What do you recommend for an amazing 1st grader/eloper who takes apart PECS? Second, a 1st grader who on purpose throws themselves on the ground/whine (no still haven’t found what they are willing to work for their interest changes by minute) what can you recommend? Also, a very smart 2nd grader who doesn’t like to work with groups and wants run & do their own thing. What to do? Lastly, a sweet child that likes to slap everyone. Tips? Thank you! Will change schedule again.

Can you tape the schedule down to the table? I have done that before and had students cross off schedule icons with a dry erase marker. Second question - definitely do an FBA. Third question - look at why the work is aversive - is it too hard, too easy, not engaging? Last question: FBA!

I love everything! Question, do students carry around their schedules with them throughout the entire school day? DO students ever drop pieces along the way. I have a couple that can sometimes forget the task at hand and run off without their schedules. ANY ADVICE will be greatly appreciated.
@theautismhelper Жыл бұрын
I typically have the schedules attached to either their desk or a "schedule station" on a wall somewhere. I've also had them fixed to a page in a 3-ring binder. You can write their initials on the back of each symbol if you're losing them to better find where they belong when they are found!

What are ABA activities? I don't see any Math or Language Arts on your schedules. Do you teach those subjects? How do you divide the time between Math and Language Grade level Curriculum and IEP goals?
@theautismhelper10 ай бұрын
I do teach Math and Language arts. Depending on the student it's 1:1 or in small groups. Centers support those subjects as well. My district divides the time for each subject and I follow their guidelines. My IEP goals and curriculum are aligned, if not, I use direct instruction to meet IEP goals.

I guess it works for your classroom but as a former substitute teacher and para having lunch change everyday is not healthy mentally or physically. You get to each lunch at the same time. Your body and brain gets used to that schedule and knows when to be hungry. If you are changing their lunch every day their brain doesn't know when to cue hunger and can affect their overall health for their body. Think about how much you use set routines for your students with mental health to help them regulate. But you don't give your adults set routines to help their body regulate😢😢

Depends on the classroom!
@claredavis59607 ай бұрын
@@theautismhelper it doesn't depend on the classroom. This has nothing to do with walls, space, books, number of people, etc. It's basic biology of how the human body and brain work. Your paras are too nice to say anything but you are causing harm to them physically and mentally.
