The hardest part for sniping is when your target suddenly decides to stop/move. Happens to me in every semi-realistic shooter on both ends of the sniper rifle

I enjoy the sniper class in BF1, the utility of the flare gun helps make the class a bit more team oriented as long as you dont ignore it and sit up on the edge of the map long range sniping all game. I think running around with an iron sighted sniper rifle playing aggressively is one of the most satisfying ways to play in my opinion.

The thing I hate about sniping is when you get those 95 hitmarkers when you are like 5 meters away from your enemy and then they kill you instantainely...

Badjangasse Produções that isn’t possible. No sniper does 95 dmg up close, they only start to go that high in the sweet spot zone. And a headshot is a one hit kill. R/thathappened

When it comes to the scout class, I would recommend everyone to use the 6x scopes only, unless you don't want the gittering which reveals your position, go for the 4x scopes. Let's stick with the 6x times magnification. Aslo, don't adjust your scopes to any range, just stay with the default of 75m and learn to use it at any ranges. If you do that, you will be a better player and you will have advanatge over those people who adjust scopes. What are the benefits? You can react faster because your brain muscles will remember how much you have to aim above the head to land a hit at many different ranges. What is also a huge benefit is the fact, that it doesn't only makes you a better player but it also gives you better perofrmance at closer range engagemnts. That will save your life many, many times when you get to learn using a certain weapon at 6x without any range adjustments, trust me. You will react quicker not only at closer range but at any range and because you don't use adjustments to your range, you can pull those shots easier and quicker at ANY range. You save yourself a lot of time by not having to think of how far away the target is to adjust your scope perfectly. Adjusting your scope to a certain range will put you on a disatvantage many times when you will shot just above their heads or just a little bit too low. You know how importat the reaction time is, and that you don't have that much time to take the shot. If you want to become a better sniper, do what I have told you and you will see the results in no time :)

Oh, thanks man, if I hadn't have shitty microphone I probably would as I was making casual videos in the past. I purchased a headset worth of over £240 and it gives me buzzing sounds when recording but works just fine when using voip and funnily enough, I purchased it to have high quality microphone for recordings but I found this issue after my warranty ended.. I'm glad if this advice helps someone to improve :) Feel free to mention that in one of your videos if you feel like it :)

I remember trying to get used to sniping after watching your earlier videos and the sticking with the idea that you'll just "learn" how to do it and one night it just clicked. I had the Russian 1895 Sniper and I believe I was on St. Quentin Scar and everything just started falling together. I sat down in one spot and took out 4 or 5 guys in one go and form there on it's just sort of stayed with me. I think the 1895 is the best to learn on, but I'm loving the Gewehr 98 Sniper as well. The velocity is just ridiculous so you can pull of some good long and leading shots. By far one of my favorites though is the SMLE Carbine. It's amazing for medium close range sniping on an objective.

Also, I based my strategy on how I hunt. 1) take good aim, make the shot count. 2) stay hidden, don't let your target see you. 3) take time and get good with your rifle. 4) your first target is the biggest deer (or in battlefield whichever one is the biggest threat).

Thank you for this video. As a person who has now retired and re-discovered my love for FPS I have found your tips to be really helpful and will definitely take on board your advice. You have brought a focus on to an aspect of my play that I didn't realize was happening - I do panic and because of that my hands stiffen up causing a loss of subtle movements on the controller, this means I over-aim in panic situations and end up aiming too far left, then right, then left again (you get the picture), it's so bad that I'm convinced I could not hit a cow's arse with a plank at 1 meter. I strongly suspect this happens to most new gamers. I originally blamed my sensitivity settings but now I know this is not the case. So for the next few weeks I'm going to just try to keep my hands relaxed at all times. I'm sure your words of wisdom will improve anyone with the same issue. Again, thanks, love the no trash talk aspect of your videos too, less foul language usually = more space for words of wisdom which is something you demonstrate perfectly.

Great tips. Thanks. I just got a new mouse which has an adjustable sensitivity/polling rate with buttons to switch between 5 different rates. I never really deliberately switched between them but I think I may have been accidentally. I was actually thinking about that today, and now I will definitely disable that feature, or set all the rates the same. I just started playing BF1 a few months back and I am absolutely hooked on it. I really like sniping. I was so crap at it to start with, and my K/D rate is still rubbish now because I died so much learning it. I had never played online before, and the last Battlefield I played was BF2, and that was just against bots. Love your vids. Cheers.

My 2 cents, stick to 2x - 4x magnification (depending on map and gamemode) and stay close to the action. PTFO in a very real sense. We should be moving on and actually capping the objective with our squad rather than sitting back simply covering the area. Of course, we should also be a step or two behind the rest of our squad. The primary benefit we offer our squad is the spotting flare which should be launched upon approach to the objective we're trying to take. We should be using a sniper rifle that helps us best in close to mid range combat. Depending upon the map and game mode this may be the SMLE Marksman or Carbine, the Martini, or even occasionally the 1895 Trench. With all but the last one, our play is to take that shot with our primary weapon and then, if there's no cover to chamber the next round, follow up with our secondary weapon. IMO, the best secondary weapon for the scout, despite its slower TTK compared to something like the 1911, is the 1903 MLE. It offers just about the quickest draw time of any sidearm with a better ROF than the 1911 to put that final bullet into our target who we've reduced to low health with our first shot as quickly as possible.

When I first started playing battlefield 1 I was pretty bad. I think I went like 8-30 on my first 10 rounds. But now that I've gotten used to leading my shots with the sniper I'm pretty damn good. I got 92 kills and 20 some deaths in an Operation (two attacks on the same map) last week (partly done with a heavy tank and a handy repairman as well). Went 45-0 with a sniper (no tank) a couple days ago. I went 58-1 on Suez the night before thanksgiving. I was always terrible at first person shooters until I started watching videos like this and picking up on some basic things that should have been obvious. Picking the right gun for example, finding a good perch to shoot from, leading the shot, moving your cross hairs with the target... etc.

In Stodeh's videos he will occasionally swing his aim very quickly across a target and ADS for a brief moment to fire usually resulting in a seemingly impossible headshot. He calls this "snapping." He will sometimes say that he nearly had to snap his wrist off to get that kill. What is he doing, what makes it even possible to hit his target this way, and what does snapping refer to?

Hello, Dr. Average Sniper, I recently watched the video on the best sniper rifle in bf1 by you. I hated the SMLE with the scope, I never did well, so I switched to the Gewehr M.95 Infantry. I loved straight pull and the rate of fire, but unfortunately the damage was awful. I unlocked the SMLE infantry then. I do so well now, all infantry variants have straight pull I realise, the rpm is good, and where the iron sights are best at is exactly where the sweet spot is. It is amazing, at medium range it dominates. The iron sights are amazing up to 200m, the gun looks incredible and paired with the Mars Auto it's incredible. Thanks for the recommendation Dr. Average Sniper!

thanks! really was looking for a video like this one. in BF4 i was really into sniping. but for some reason i can't get used to velocity and stuff in BF1.. also a question: Is there a tip how to snipe on aircrafts? I try to hit the pilot but most of the times (if i don't miss the shot, what happens most most of the times :D) i hit the aircraft for like 4 dmg (normal bullets). Sometimes i damage wings or engine but this doesn't seem to help much in taking them out. I know, a sniper is still a sniper and not an AA-gun but maybe there are like "sweet-spots" that make it easier to take out those vehicles or their pilots.. really enjoying your vids. keep the work up! :-)

I'm level 90 and I'm still having some hard time using the "sniper" rifles and "marksman" rifles 😅.. This is why I'm using the "infantry" ones. I feel like leading with them is also easier, just align the moving target in the space between the middle vertical beam of the ironsight and the left/right beam (depending on how's he's moving)

Something that helped me was spotting my enemy. It helps you relax and keeps a target on them.

I know you've already posted the video and everything, but one thing to add about leading targets: Battlefield 1 has added the bullet drag mechanic to the game. This means the bullet velocity will decrease over distance. Read more about it here: www.reddit.com/r/battlefield_one/comments/4nrlwe/why_hasnt_anyone_discussed_bullet_drag/ Excellent video by the way, this is super tough to explain to newbies. "No, I can't just tell you how to be the best. You have to practice and figure most of it out yourself."

you just have to keep using iron sights until you're used to the mechanics and then using a scope gets easier

yeah after playing every freaking BF game and just sniping in all of them. I like picture the bullet moving and estimate the distance like that. even for bullet drop. Can't explain it i just see the bullet moving in my head and go from there.

Enjoy watching your videos. I've played BF for years but never scout. What would you recommend to start with? Or should I say, I like to pto not really interested in sitting around waiting for a kill. What would you recommend for that style of play? Or should I just stick with medic haha.

Just a thought, im 19 and I've been playing BF since I was like 7 or 8 years old. Is it just me who think the distance is alot harder to measure in BF1 than for instance like BF4? Feels like 117m in BF1 is like 180-200 in BF4, or is it just my brain fuckin up?
