What if they had not had such a failure in production and the Avanti had sold like hotcakes? Would it have been the savior Studebaker needed? What do you think of the styling? How cool is Raymon Loewy? Thanks for watching and see you next Monday!

I think it would have had sold big time... too bad production issues didn't get sorted out.

I think Studebaker would've been the ultimate performance division to compete with Pontiac and Studebaker would've been ever wayyyyyyy better either under Ford's leadership or AMC's leadership.

Good stuff! if they just hadn't screwed up production so badly I think the Avanti could have come close to saving Studebaker.

Beautiful video well researched I think the best thing to happen to the Avanti was to drop the i and the name be put on a number of fantastic Audi RS wagons (until the warranty runs out and they break)

Awe the good ole Studebaker. Haven't heard or seen one of those in years. One of my old bosses in the early 90's had one. Can't remember which model but it was pretty cool. The Bad Blonde show is only getting better and better.🙌🙏

Egbert would’ve been happy selling 10k Avantis in 63. But even selling 20k didn’t generate enough sales to keep Studebaker in the car business. Because the Avanti is hand built, Egbert was unrealistic in his expectations. By the fall of ‘63 the Board knew Avanti wasn’t a halo car and the redesigned ‘64 Larks weren’t selling. Egbert departed in Nov ‘63, and the South Bend plant shut down the next month. Ironically, Newman and Altman made money with the Avanti II - they bought all the unused inventory, tools and factory space for pennys on the dollar.

Why? Because it was made by an ineffcient company. If GM made the Avanti, they could take 20% off the price.

Studebaker as a whole would've been better off under Ford's leadership and use it as a performance division to compete with Pontiac.

For the time and influential market, i see why this was created. It’s simple, kinda sporty and unique. Fast and powerful. Had lots of positive ups but lacks design. It is too plain and boxy and those headlights seemed last min add ons. I’d drive it but it wouldn’t be a favorite of mine.

Had both Studebaker and Packard merged together with Hudson and Nash along with Kaiser and Jeep to create AMC in 1954 then AMC as a whole would've not only been around 2 this day but Studebaker (aka AMC's performance division) would've been around to this day along with other independent car companies (under the leadership of AMC).

The Avanti wasnt a failure. Management wasnt able to curtail the finacial spiral that began with the Packard merger. Had either sought investments independently at the time its probable that both would still be in business ...
