I spent 31 years of my adult life wearing a US Army uniform. I spent the majority of that 31 years living in foreign countries constantly being asked about America's pride and arrogance in flag and country, because, yes, we are fanatic about it. We fight among ourselves, push and shove, and call each other names, and we make stupid decisions a lot of the time, but let some bully from outside the American family push any member of the family, and the wrath of God would descend upon them. I could go on and on...but, don't worry Millie, I'll bet everyone watching this reaction was tearing up also...including this 80 year old man. God bless both of you.

My father spent 3 years in the U.S. navy and another 26 in the U.S. army. He couldn't find a job after college and the navy wanted him to start over as a seaman recruit. The army gave him credit for his 3 years of service during WWII plus 2 years of credit for his 4 years of college. He entered the army as a corporal just in time to be sent to Korea. He also served in Vietnam in 1965-66 and retired out of the Presidio in San Francisco in 1968. I am proud of his service to our country and proud to be his daughter. I miss you, Dad.

Millions of Americans are devastated by his passing. But we are also forever grateful for him, his music and his love of this Country. I always say being American 🇺🇸 is a spirit of freedom and the will to fight and die for it and for liberty and the will to fight and die for it and finally the objective of peace even if it’s tense - regardless of who you are or where you come from if you stand for love, peace liberty and freedom… and the painful sacrifices that people paid and will pay to keep our country and our world safe that’s American. You can take an American out of America but you won’t kill that spirit. ❤️

I still remember the moment the second plain hit the tower and the realization set in that we were actually under attack. It’s still so vivid to me and it seems like it happened yesterday. We watched helplessly through our television sets as 3,000 fellow American’s went down with those towers. We became crazed with a rabid kind of hurt and anger and this song capsulated the sense of vengeance and accountability that we craved back then. I joined the military because of it. He wasn't out holding a sign begging for money, but it absolutely filled me with rage that my country does its veterans such a dishonor when they put their lives on the line. All the soldiers that died at D-Day, men who still hair downy peach fuzz on their cheeks. The lives people sacrificed so that I can sit here in a country of freedom and for the most part peace. We, as humanity, need to remember to love each other at the end of the day. This song and its message: doesn't matter what country you're from, I'd die to defend and protect you and your children. ♥

So thank you, but I will use my energy to be prepared when WWIII does break out. And yes, I will be proud to fight and die for my country. This war is inevitable. I’m not a pessimist, but the world has a history of going to war with itself. China seeks power, and the U.S. is in the way. I have a blessed life, and I am ready to fight for my country to keep it. Thanks though. As I love history, and I love our country, I invest my time in political events on the global scale, WWIII is just another theatre of my studies. It would be foolish of you to not study the possibility of WWIII. Do you think society has evolved since 1945? It hasn’t. Governments can still commit genocide, and war crimes are still committed. I want to be ready just in case this does occur. Turning a blind eye to war doesn’t make its possibilities go away. All these years later and this song still physically affects me with tears, goose bumps and chokes me up. My youngest daughter gave up her first year of college to become a Marine shortly after 9-11. She came home with rods in her lower back and a pride in her country as great as mine. She got her Masters degree after serving and a few years later she had a great family and job, still does. Thanks to the UK and our other allies during that time and apologies for the current clown in chief destroying everything in the USA and wherever else he can!

Toby Keith is indeed a patriot and I’ve never seen a musician express so much love and respect to those who serve. Saw him live once and after each song, he raised his drink in a toast “This goes to those who serve day and night, whether here or overseas, but more importantly, to those who are no longer with us.” Every. Song. He repeated that toast, as if he dedicated each song and performance to them.

I find it interesting that several references in this song were of the sort that Americans would understand, but the terrorists might not: "sucker punch," "lit up your world like the Fourth of July," and descriptions of the Statue of Liberty, Uncle Sam, and Mother Freedom. It seems to be written as a rallying song for Americans, and if our enemies don't understand the threats, that's their problem.

Here's a little back story for you regarding this song. When Toby was asked about it he replied that when 9/11 happened he wrote down his feelings at the time and was also thinking about how his father might have felt. This how the song came about. He performed it for the military members but never had any intentions of actually releasing it publicly as it was very personal to him. A commander at one of the bases told him he had to release it as it was needed. Because of this Toby released it. Ironically when our 4th of July rolled around he was supposed to perform at one of the celebrations that was sponsored by a major TV network here. A well know news anchor who was hosting the show (who interestingly enough was Canadian) asked Toby to remove the line "with a boot up your a$$" from the song. Toby refused and the network rescinded their invitation for him to perform.

He wrote this song, and sing this song for the military members. He only played it before military crowds because he wrote it for them. But he been asked by so many of them to please release it please. Finally, after so many people begged for him to release it, he released it to the public and that's why you see so much of the military in the video. It's because he videotaped the concerts what he's saying it for them.

This old vet still gets blurry on this one. From wiki: "At first, Keith refused to record the song and only sang it live at his concerts for military personnel. The reaction was so strong that the Commandant of the Marine Corps James L. Jones told Keith it was his duty as an American citizen to record the song. "It's your job as an entertainer to lift the morale of the troops," Jones said to Keith. "If you want to serve, that is what you can do."[1] As the lead single from the album Unleashed (2002), "Courtesy of the Red, White, & Blue" peaked at number 1 on the country charts over the weekend of July 4."

Toby Keith is one of my very favorites of all times. It's 2023 now and I still love this patriotic song. 9/11 was a horrible day and time for America. The response of our friends around the world was so amazing. You dear sweet kids are precious and your Queen was so gracious . When she had her Royal band play America's National Anthem it was truly heart touching. I'm sorry for the loss of your Queen. God bless

9/11 I was watching the news wondering why the world hated us Americans and were celebrating our tragedy. Then I saw the changing of the guard and the fact that the music had never been altered before. Our Star Spangled Banner began and I collapsed into a chair and began to sob. I then remembered that we aren't alone. Her Majesty reminded me of that.

Thank you everything you said! About the late great Toby Keith! He passed away not to long ago. And has left millions of people mourning his loss. He did more than a few concerts for the soldiers fighting that war. He did everything he could possibly do to support the armed forces. You made me smile a bit with your video today. Thank you ❤

How about Lee Greenwald "Proud to be an American" that song gives me goosebumps everytime. "40 hour week" by Alabama is good too. And if you haven't heard "A country boy can survive" by Hank Williams Jr it's must listen even if you don't react to it.

That's Lee Greenwood not Greenwald 😉 And you should react to him singing it with Home Free and the USAF Singing Sergeants 😍😍😍😍 it was filmed during Quarantine times and is awesome!! You need to introduce Millie to Home Free as well! 😉

Yep, support your vets no matter what freedom loving country you are from because the veterans and their families sacrifice a lot for their countries especially being away from families, but they do it for love of country and freedom.

You definitely have to do Ray Charles' version of "America the Beautiful." My dad's a Vietnam vet and it's the only patriotic song that makes him cry. Seeing him tear up always starts me bawling because he says that version is the one that most reminds him of the friends he lost in the war and that it's soulful rendition is beautifully appropriate to respect the lives lost. Just a gorgeous version that will more than likely bring tears to your eyes as well.

This Ray Charles song for America is legendary. He didn't write the song, that was a long, long time ago. Only the Star Spangled Banner is historically more significant than America The Beautiful. Ray Charles rendition is the ultimate epic version.
