Emily’s comment about how Amber’s legal team may have relied too heavily on the UK case was spot on. They came in overly confident and lost everything.
@scattygirl12 жыл бұрын
Their confidence would not have been unjustified given the widely accepted view amongst legal insiders that it is extremely hard to win a defamation case in the US due to freedom of speech laws. It might seem obvious to some **now** that they lost, but that certainly wasn't the general legal belief beforehand. I don't think her team were being hubristic- they just weren't as good as Depp's team. Plus there's only so much you can do with an awful defendant.
@pmready9502 жыл бұрын
Wasn’t the UK case Johnny having to prove that the Sun Newspaper printed an article that defamed him with malice? And the US case was Johnny having to prove that Amber wrote an article for the WaPo that defamed him with malice. The UK case a judge ruled that JD didn’t prove his case. The US trial the jury found that Amber defamed Johnny with malice. Two different things right?

Takeaway: Live streaming humanised the trial. Some behaviour considered appropriate/inappropriate in the courtroom have shifted when viewed by the public. Public reaction actually has some legitimacy because the public could have been jurors too. Though on paper, Amber had the advantage and her story was haunting, her BS paired with the evidence cost her the case. And there’s something human about being able to parse through that. While the verdict was surprising, the public understands the decision because of live streaming.

Re: Amber and Johnny referring to each other as Slim and Steve. If this hasn’t been cleared up yet, those were the nicknames of the characters played by Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart in their first film, To Have and Have Not. It was Bacall’s first film, she was 18; Bogie was an established movie star in his mid-40s. And it was during the filming of that film that Bogie and Bacall fell in love irl.

Lauren Bacall was actually talented though. Back then acting was actually a serious job and not just "that thing that people do to get beer money" that we seem to see with big movie stars these days and flakes like amber. I think the stars of the 80s and 90s may be some of the last perceived to be hard working stars we'll see in a while.

I'm watching this right now on my TV and just want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to all of you and all the TubeLawyers, Law&CrimeNetwork and many other social/independent media who helped me to understand the legal aspects of this trial. I came late to this trial, specifically last two weeks or so, after seeing it mentioned on twitter. Initially, I dismissed it thinking that were just 2 Hollywood celebs having tantrums in public. At this point never heard of AH and of course, I knew JD from his many films which I watched throughout my life, particularly, TPOTC, which were a lot of fun, but didn't know him enough as a man to get me interested in the trial. In general, celeb stuff just annoy me and stopped watching/reading corporate media long time ago (3 -4 years). One day, went on YT and saw some stuff related to the trial, I clicked and it was AH being cross exanimated by Camille. It took me a few minutes to understand what it was going on, I was so shocked and triggered... I kept thinking this can't be true, this must be one of the silly things, hoaxes, whatever, that populate YT. Slowly, I came to the realisation that it was true and it was live. I kept watching and more I watched more disturbed and unsettled I became. The reason was I'm a survivor of domestic violence and sexual abuse as a child. I'm a wreck to this day. It destroyed me as a person I was never able to hold a steady job ever, I was never able to have 'normal' relationships whole my life, suffered from depression and anxiety all my life, PTSD diagnosed, I could go on and on... So watching/hearing this woman and hearing the JD tapes I felt devastated beyond words, because I could tell she was lying, because I know what looks like to live in fear, to feel terrified to say the wrong word, even being terrified of breathing, to do the wrong thing... I can't go on, but for a good part of my life, I just wanted to be invisible... No, she wasn't abused in any way, form or shape, she was the abuser. I saw myself in Johnny Depp immediately. I saw the friends I wasn't allowed to have, I saw the yelling thrown at me again and again, you're a loser, you're a nobody, nobody likes you, you're nothing and you always be nothing... I've seen 1000s of women on twitter and here saying exactly the same thing, that they identified with Johnny as I did. In a way, I got some solace from that, that I'm not alone. From the moment I saw that first video of the trial (Amber Heard cross examination) that I have been watching the max I can with the help of LawTubers and the rest (somehow it feels by watching with you, I'm not alone and the pain is not so unbearable), and that such confirmed again and again my first impression, AH doesn't have a clue what DV or SA looks like! Again, thank you so much for your hard work. I couldn't do this without you!

I’m just disgusted with the verdict….I almost cried when you hear this grown man saying to his abusive wife, “ you just came around the bed and clogged me, just punching on me” then he took this long pause while Heard was saying sorry and he goes…..”whyyy” in this voice of just confusion….on top of the other audios the world heard…..she shouldn’t of got nothing and he should of been awarded every bit of that $50million plus some, bcuz if He didn’t have those audios Heard would of gotten away with a crime and an innocent victim life would of been ruined for no reason….I don’t really care about this celebrity world but my heart do go out to people who are being abused.

@Piccolo Ribellem trying to remember why; having already found Amber to be a liar they could disregard her testimony on the penthouse police response, but the jury may have felt that her friends were defamed because the evidence did not support Waldman’s assertion that Amber & friends had messed up the penthouse then called the cops again. But it was also required that they find that Waldman acted with legal malice; at the time Waldman made the statements his assertion was reasonable. A lot of the trial viewers weren’t able to put all the evidence regarding this incident together in a way that would lead them to conclude the scene was not staged until LawTube walked us through it.

I kept wondering, what is the team dynamic on Amber's side? Did they even read each other's questioning? I mean, I am related to a lawyer, and they don't have all star clients, but they are FOREVER reading and reviewing each other's work. What the HELL was going on on Amber's side??! "I'm trying here..." Meanwhile on Depp's side, when one of them got in the weeds (and that did happen) you DID NOT NOTICE because they had each others' backs!! There was a post-it, there was a paper, and Johnny was not writing them. You have to TRUST YOUR LAWYERS!! There was none of that on Amber's side.

Hey, Sharon. Yes. I like his channel. Nothing against these other lawyers. They all do what they do. But he is a criminal lawyer, litigating even in murder trials, where the stakes are so high. I find his channel to be really on point. He just explains the law. And he is also very down-to-earth which is not every attorney. Anyway, I’ve been encouraged by the huge amount of women out there supporting truth in this case. The media likes to divide us. I believe all rational and decent men are on the side of women if the abuse is real, and it’s wonderful to see that women are the same when the situation is reversed. For too long, people promote the idea that men can not be the victims. It’s refreshing to come together in support of the truth and reality.
