Thank you Father Mike. I also listened today Fr Mike Schmitz at Texas A&M - Magnify - October 27, 2022. What a wonderful talk was that. And he was talking about Luke Chapter 5. I think you should all listen to it. It was really super super. I decided to invite Jesus to my boat and let Him rule my life. It is better that way. Also with confession - oh yeah the same sins I confess again and again. It reminds of the book of Judges - when Israel repetitively sin, pray and turn to God and God delivers them - they did it about 8 or 9 times I think.. I heard that once a priest was fed up listening to a person confessing the same sins again and again. At one time when this man went to the priest and confessed the same sins - the priest said to him - I am not forgiving your sins. Then the priest heard God's voice -"I forgive him". So loving is our God. I love you my God.

He certainly does. One time I was being severely maligned in the workplace. I prayed about it and interiorly felt these words “ God was Mary’s defense “! She never said a word to St Joseph. I’ve been a fighter most of my life and I’m pretty good at it. It took great humility to stand down. God did not disappoint! Vengeance is his and he does vindicate those he loves if they will but trust him. You would think that I learned that lesson right? No, it took another experience about 20years later! Man oh man like you say Father! Is God ever patient?! I’m doing much better due to his grace!

November 11, 2023 Round Two Please, I am looking for people to take a moment and pray with me for Souls in Purgatory. Can you help? According to tradition, St. Gertrude the Great was told by Our Lord that each time she piously recited the following prayer, it would release 1,000 souls (or a vast number) from their suffering in purgatory: Eternal Father, I offer You the most precious blood of thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, for those in my own home, and in my family. Amen. In her account of another vision, St. Faustina describes Purgatory as a "great crowd of suffering souls" undergoing purification. Further, she says that the souls are "praying fervently, but to no avail, for themselves; only we can come to their aid" (Diary, 20) Father I need your grace again because I am not the witness I want to be.

Just a little side note, one commentary I listened to asked why Jesus shut the book in the Temple when he did, He was reading Isiah 61 v1&2, the next line of that verse is ' and the day of vengeance is our God' The first coming of Jesus was to save and heal, God here was not instituting vengeance but ushering in grace. Kind of obvious when it gets explained, but I would never have even thought about why he shut the book when he did. Feeling blessed today, feel God has confirmed something in my heart today, and a couple who left church some years ago, appear to be back, great news, doubly blessed !

My dad was a bit different with me than with either of my sisters, anyways, for whatever reasons he had it in his head that I needed to be taught the strictest lessons in humility. That's kinda why it drives me crazy when ppl receive all kinds of praise, money, and/or publicity and then say they are humbled by it. Obviously, having no idea what that term actually means. They were flattered, not humbled, smh. Anyways, back to my over-sharing story cause it fits everything you discussed...yeah, so, he never allowed me to recieve compliments. I would get into huge trouble if he heard one conveyed to me or if I even dared thought say something in front of him that might suggest that someone said something even vaguely complimentary to me. He would say that I should not ever take a compliment from anyone ever because it was a form of manipulation. Now, to my baby mind, I thought he meant that the compliment wasn't true thus a manipulation because I wasn't worthy of a compliment just as I wasn't worthy to have "God under my roof", so to speak. It seemed to all come together and make logical sense. It took me most of my adult life to understand that what he meant to teach me was that flattery and vanity were a dangerous couple and that that couple could lead one away from all virtue. It was a terrible teaching strategy (that created a different set of problems) but it was a good lesson: Flattery creates a distortion in vanity's mirror which Satan and ppl, in general, use to attack and manipulate. They can target that flaw over and over again until we no longer recognize it as a deficit of virtue or until we buy them pizza. (As a side note, since you love pizza, Sam's Club carries the member mark brand Naan bread and it makes for a pretty phenomenal faux pizza dough base- just in case you needed to know that).

Protestant here … To my Catholic friends, brothers, and sisters i have a question… I noticed some of you said that Protestants believe in a faith alone that means you can just believe then live like satan because once saved always saved… I strongly reject this because though I believe justification by faith alone (that God will look only at if I believe in Jesus on judgment day to invite me in) I do also believe faith ALWAYS leads to fruit (something I’ve heard Catholics say too?) so no one living in sin can expect to enter Heaven. Not because we’re saved by works in part but because their faith is proving unauthentic. As a Protestant I get your guys point On James 2… but James 2 cannot mean faith + works or Ephesians 2:9 is nullified right? And Romans 11:6? I believe therefore that James 2 means faith + 0 = salvation + works. not faith + works = salvation. Also not faith = salvation - works. Finally I believe sin will harden our hearts and cause someone to walk away from Christ. So while I don’t believe we can sin away our salvation, I do believe we can walk away willingly and sin can be what causes someone to want to do that. All this to ask if you guys would kindly offer commentary :) GBU
@jenniferhenschel76303 жыл бұрын
You might find this interesting. In 1999, the Catholic Church and the Lutheran World Federation agreed on a joint document expressing (at least some) agreement on the doctrine of justification: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_Declaration_on_the_Doctrine_of_Justification . As a Catholic, my understanding is that the free offering of God’s grace comes first. Then, it’s our job to accept and cooperate with that grace, allowing it to work in us and sanctify us. If your definition of faith is an active one that is expressed in works, I think that’s pretty much in accord with the Catholic view.
@thegracecast403 жыл бұрын
@@jenniferhenschel7630 right. Well my view is interesting in that faith itself is passive BUT it leads to activity, charity, fruit, and holiness every single time (unless they immediately die like the thief on the cross)…maybe this is linguistics though?
@will03163 жыл бұрын
@@jenniferhenschel7630 well said. The catholic view i think is that we cooperate with grace. Grace comes first. Our faith is through God's grace. So it's not faith alone or grace alone but faith first and grace first. Then our response to it.

So sorry to hear about your parents. It's not easy to forgive, but by forgiving them ... all you are saying is ... they don't owe you anything. The past is the past. This doesn't mean you ever have to spend time with them again or do anything for them. You can be done with them. It is more about preserving yourself and caring for yourself. I may be wrong, but this is what I understand forgiveness, to be. Also , your parents are broken and may have been treated poorly themselves. They were never shown any love and caring. Therefore, they do not know how to show love and caring. 🙏
