Green actually had a good take on why Kobe doesn’t get mentioned enough in that conversation. I’d love to see Dray and Skap Attack debate on Kobe vs LeBron for THIS reason: When Shaq left the Lakers’ roster was absolutely trash for 3 years… even with the terrible roster they only missed the playoffs one year, 2004-2005 (lebron also missed the playoffs that year). Kobe made the playoffs the next 2 seasons and had arguably his 2 best individual seasons breaking insane amounts of scoring records while making the all defensive team. But once Kobe got Pau GASOL, he dominated the league winning 2 out of 3 titles. Here’s where the argument comes in… Before Pau GASOL teamed up with Kobe, his Grizzlies were the last seed at 22-60. He joins Kobe and they immediately go to the finals. They lost, but they also were missing Bynum who would’ve been key against the stacked front court of Boston. And eventually they end up repeating. So Kobe did not get some franchise player who was leading his teams to victory. He got a guy who was individually talented but had done nothing in the league success wise. . Plus if you compare the numbers of Pau GASOL to those of D Wade, it’s not close. For LeBron to win his first title he had to team up with a guy in Wade who already won a championship and had a FMVP and was the 3rd best player in the NBA (and arguably the 3rd best SG of all time). Plus, Wade’s Heat the year before Bron joined was the #5 seed at 47-35. Also LeBron joined Chris Bosh who was a real franchise player and dragged Toronto to the postseason multiple years. These guys were in their primes too. They together won the same amount of championships that Kobe and Pau won.

0:40 Shaq saw that every single game. It doesn't work. I've seen variations of that strategy (which is a good many times-just not applicable to Shaq) involving the Twin Towers, Hakeem, Ewing, and Oakley, Robinson, and Rodman. More often than not-Shaq still got the ball down-low. The type of strain Shaq would have put on the Warriors with foul trouble would SEVERELY limit how they play him, the type of lineups they could put on the court, and prevent them from playing their ideal tempo on offense. The number of high-percentage shots Shaq would make (and the absurd number of free throws he would get) against a team of small size would be too much for the Warriors to handle, regardless of what their backcourt would do.

They were better with KD than without him, in my opinion. Once you acknowledge that, his named has to be mentioned. Shaq said at one point "nobody's guarding me, nobody's guarding Kobe, nobody's guarding Steph, and nobody's guarding Klay". KD's possibly the most un-guardable out of all of them....at least with Shaq, you can make him hit free throws. And KD definitely belongs in that statement before Klay, even if you think Steph and Kobe are better scorers.

Kd is one of the greatest scorers of all time, no one at that time would be able to guard prime kd, having the best shooter duo in the history withe kd, steph is top 2 pg, prime klay was a extremely good 2 way and extremely clutch, and one of the best 3 pt shooters of all time, draymond was really really defensively and really good playmaker, and wasnt a liability offensively as he is now, and that team also had a good depth.. the amount of spacing they could generate, those teams would have zero chances to counter it, playing the old-school style of basketball.. the only reason gsw lost to raptors and didn't get to have 3 stray championships was because of the injuries

If flushes out any fluke games as the reason a team wins or loses. You have 7 chances to win 4. Kings couldn't do that in 2002, or 2001, or any other year against the Lakers. They had their chances and lost. Crying about the refs 22 years later doesn't change the reality of what happened.
