7 steps summary: Part 2 4) Accept this moment as if you have chosen it ( accept the feeling, don’t beat yourself about it, accept what is going on, don’t be a perfectionist) 5) Find a way of eating that is free and balanced ( No dieting, eating balanced meal, don’t label certain group of food as good or bad) 6) Practice high quality Yes and No ( don’t be a people pleaser. Part of you having a trantrum having urges to binge ) 7) Connect with other people on the same journey ( U r not alone, other people can also support you, seek professional support if it helps too) No 7 is hard for me as feel embarrassed. I am trying to fix myself quietly using inspirations from someone like u. Thank u so much. May god bless u and all sufferers to recover from Binge eating soon 🙏❤️

Practice small nos in less important places in your life. Beginning with food or people close to you is the hardest. Not many people can start there. Look for small moments in life when your habit is to say yes when really you would prefer to say no. Sometimes we don’t even know what we want. Start by asking yourself regularly ‘is this what I want?’ And ‘What do I want right now?’. For awhile you answer may be ‘I don’t know’ but if you keep asking the question with curiosity you may be surprised at the answers that start to emerge

@@TheBingeEatingTherapist I’ll give it a go thank you! I find that after a binge I just feel weak and I have let everyone down so I say yes to everyone to make up for it.

Wow I am so happy to have found you. Thank you so much for these 7 steps. I am about to go out, buy and journal and start working this out. I have been referred to my local Eating Disorder Service but there is a one year wait. I knew I had to stop trying to lose weight, which I did about 5 weeks ago. But my binges are still so strong and more frequent. I felt like I was raw but achieved what I was told to do. Then left with, what now?! Having my partner not understand and question why am I still binging when I weigh 17 stone, is not a good feeling. Thanks to you I am about to move to the next step. I might also try and be super brave and join my local overeaters anonymous group. I feel even more shame because I am a mental health nurse 😣. Just wondering where you are based and what setting you work in?

Hi Louise. I have my own private practice so I work for myself. I’m UK based and my website is www.thebingeeatingtherapist.com I think EDA is better than OA. They focus on balance over abstinence. Also, if you’re about this Sunday, you might be interested in joining me at this event www.lifeafterdietspodcast.com/whats-on/ You can buy a ticket or just make a donation of a few pennies to attend. The previous ones have been lovely gatherings of likeminded people sharing stories and connecting with and supporting one another. It would be great to meet you ❤️

I went to OA 3 times but felt it wasn’t for me as the only person in the group that was successful was the group leader and she wasn’t interested in sponsoring anyone. Regardless I chose to find help via other channels such as this and a private counselor. Journaling is helping.

How do you eat in a way that gives you freedom when food just doesn’t feel free? If I eat healthy foods then I feel “diety” and if I eat what I really want I feel crappy because of health issues and it’s still not freedom. It’s like I am never free around food because I have prediabetes.
@louisethomas21232 жыл бұрын
I totally hear you with this point I am exactly the same. I’m starting to try and see healthy food as fuel my body needs to function optimally. Rather than diet food. But that is years upon years of cognitive restructuring. Have you made any progress since writing this comment? X

I was in the same boat and still struggle with this, but I started having my healthy meals & having the unhealthy bit at the same time, but a pre-determined portion-roll/slice of dessert-any serving of food that I knew would hurt my body, since I have pre diabetes I would also have something sugary/or what I knew would really impact how I felt in the evening-so basically I found a place to put it each day The pre determined portion made it “safe” and the evening eating time didn’t effect my functioning for the rest of the day and it gave me mental freedom of knowing each day I could eat something that felt scary but I missed. Just an idea-hugs to everyone ❤️❤️

When I had pre diabetes I felt hungry all the time. I suggest you work with your doctor to lower your blood sugar levels ASAP. I reversed it, you can too 🩵

For me as well. Finding ways to escape uncomfortable moments is a life skill we start to develop from a very young age. I can see how simply acknowledging and sitting with the feelings could be a step toward not leaping into a binge.

Your presentation has a lot of interesting ways of thinking about this. Many of these seems useful and insightful. One massive thing missing that sticks out like a sore thumb here is exercise. My rough understanding is that there is solid scientific evidence for only about three things leading to increased probability of long term weight loss and exercise is one of them. Finding social support, your step 7 is another. Avoiding foods that trigger wanting to eat more is the big third.
@TheBingeEatingTherapist Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment and I always enjoy hearing people's thoughts. I do want to emphasise though that my channel is not about weight loss. Because I focus on eating disorders I stay away from promoting this as it would be professionally irresponsible.
@jonathansobieski2962 Жыл бұрын
@@TheBingeEatingTherapist I know I typed "weight loss" but curing Binge Eating disorder and weight loss more or less go hand in hand. It's obviously logically possible to keep on binge eating and exercise enough to lose weight, but I'm sure that exercise probably helps a lot with Binge Eating for many reasons. It can help provide you with motivation to stop eating. Time spent exercising is time not spent eating. Exercise can help suppress appetite. It improves mental health in general by promoting blood circulation to the brain and releasing endorphins to make you feel better. It provides social support by giving you a social circle at the gym or whatever other sport you pursue. It's such a big thing that it seems like even if you're trying to deliberately focus on Binge eating and not weight loss, promoting exercise seems like a good idea. Exercise has been one of the most important things for me in long term keeping my eating under control.

I wish I lived in a country with socialized healthcare.
Re balance, most people can't do "freedom/moderation", that's what caused weight gain/dieting/bingeing in the first place
@luluandmeow2 жыл бұрын
We get cravings/urges to binge because we are hungry, our bodies are screaming out for proper nourishment, the kind we can get with a WFPB diet. Carrying on eating junk/trigger foods "in moderation" will not work, just as it has not worked up to now, it's like expecting an alcoholic to drink in moderation. It's easier to avoid trigger foods completely, at least for a few months
