Dont make the inclosure that clustered. Unlike crested geckos, these are found in scrublands, not deep in the jungle. They’ve also been seen basking in nature, and crawling on the ground. They prefer more open of a space then cresteds. This enclosure is nice, all the right things are in it, it’s just too clustered. Other then that its amazing
@spicedapples32833 жыл бұрын
Idk, they do need a lot of space to hide. I do think this enclosure is a bit small for a garg so if it was a little bigger it would be 👌

I'm upgrading my little bud to a 18x18x24 tank. Would I need to double up on the substrate. Or would a single 6 quart bag still work? As for the lighting, would I still use the same lighting just the bigger sizes or would I need more UVB/plant light? Lastly. Do they need a heating source? I've found conflicting answers online. Any help and answers would be appreciated!
@TheBioDudeJoshHalter2 жыл бұрын
Hey there - answering in order: I would use two bags, this will help the space be filled for root growth. the kits have a description of whats included and what you should add to the enclosure - www.thebiodude.com/products/gargoyle-gecko-vivarium-setup-kit i will provide a helpful link on UVB that will help explain the sizing and another for plants as well! :) www.thebiodude.com/blogs/reptile-and-amphibian-caresheets-with-cited-veterinary-and-herpetology-sources/introduction-to-uvb-and-reptiles-part-1 www.thebiodude.com/blogs/reptile-and-amphibian-caresheets-with-cited-veterinary-and-herpetology-sources/introduction-to-uvb-part-2 The heating - that depends on your homes biome. Some keep their houses warmer and do not need to add additional heating, some keep it artic and need to add one. Give this a read for their husbandry needs to get extra information as well! hope it helps! www.thebiodude.com/blogs/reptile-and-amphibian-caresheets-with-cited-veterinary-and-herpetology-sources/gargoyle-gecko-care-sheet-and-maintenance

No isopods or springtails? So is this a bioactive still without them?
@dashugotier80973 жыл бұрын
Technically yeah because the bioshot adds bacteria and fungi, but No, u definitely need springtails/isopots cause they are the ones actually keeping ur enclosure clean. Without them mold will build up and the bacteria and fungi won't be able to process it and turn it into soil like ur cleanup crew

so is the bioshot just a subsitute for the isopods/springtails?
@ericcollum37743 жыл бұрын
No it is more of a starter for the entire system. It provides food for the microfauna. You definitely still need the clean up crew aka:bugs
@paranorman16463 жыл бұрын
@@ericcollum3774 so its biological starter sorta like for fish tanks in a way
@dashugotier80973 жыл бұрын
@@paranorman1646 kind of yeah. U don't necessarily need it. It's just bacteria and fungi which will help ur springtails and isopots by kickstarting the biodiversity but u still need the springtails/isopots. If u don't use it u have to let ur tank sit with the springtails/isopots for 2-4 weeks feed them with leaves, moss and orchid bark and the bacteria and fungi will establish themselves. But it will take longer.

I have a ? I wanted to ask on a more recent Video to get faster response so, I'm buying a leapord gecko for my 5yo son I have everything from 3 hides, 20galtank and repti carpet now my question is instead of the repti carpet after more researched I decided I wanted to do a bioactive terrarium, planned on using the Terra firma substrate but the thing I worry about is my tank is 30 x 12 x 12 and I have a undertank heat mat (with thermostat) and 2 different above bulbs for uvb and uva, one question I have is do I even need the uva or should I use a heat emitter or just stick with 1 uvb bulb? The other important queston I have is since i plan to use soul substrate I never see any videos of the recommended thickness the soil needs to be for all cleanup crew and a leapord gecko to dig happily while at the same time not so thick that the heat pag doesn't fully heat up his warm hide. Any help?
@kayleighellis77953 жыл бұрын
You don’t necessarily need a uva if you already have uvb, even though they are both beneficial it should be fine with just uvb, the heat emitter can be used for a basking area on your hot side . They can get really hot so you need to make sure it doesn’t overheat your gecko. You can get another thermostat to help keep the right temp (90-95 degrees fahrenheit basking spot) If you don’t want to do a heat emitter for extra heat, you should be just fine with an under the tank heat mat and a uvb bulb. But if you are worried about it not getting hot enough then i would recommend the heat emitter. Just keep in mind the uvb and uva don’t emit heat. I’ve never worked with a cleanup crew, but they are small so i wouldn’t think you need that much substrate. I would say about 5-6 inch of substrate (mainly depends on personal preference for you and your gecko) If your worried about it not being heated enough you can always make the hot side not have as much substrate and the cool side have more substrate. Not sure if you’ve gotten any other replies on other videos but hope this helps!
@DeathPoker13 жыл бұрын
@@kayleighellis7795 this helps alot thank you so much for your time explaining, my problem I'm having right now is my thermostat is set to 91 connected to my heating mat, unfortunately it never reached this temp and I'm having trouble figure out where I should put the little metal piece that tells the thermostat the temp, at first i put the suction cup under the reptile carpet and cut a hole to squeeze half of the thermostat piece through my thermostat would be at a constant 90 (inside his warm hide) now I rearranged the tank and the thermostat piece is now on the side glass (on warm side above heat mat) with the tip touching the reptile carpet (still right above heat mat) and now it's a constant 81.Now I have a handheld surface thermometer to check and his cold side is the same as my house 70-75 but the warm side it's saying on the reptile carpet right above its heat mat the surface temp is 115 but when I touch it with my hands it definitely doesn't feel that hot and the leapord gecko stays in the warm hide most of the time seemingly comfortable,basically my question is, will my juvinile be ok and just move to the cold side if it gets to hot? I use the etekcity 774 infrared it seems sort of accurate aside from that heat mat spot, is it normal for it to read that high over the reptile carpet spot that's over the heat mat?

Hey, I like ur video's and I'm a long time follower (since 2017) but this one is very disappointing. It's nothing personal just a few thing's. Quiet a long time u are sponsoring Reptifiles but by the look of this video u don't really look at Mariah's care guides. She clearly recommends that 1 full grown Gargoyle gecko needs a terrarium sized 18"x18"x24" Bigger is always better. There are two other main things that bother me. 1. There is absolutely no mesh to keep the substrate out of the drainage layer. It might work with that much drainage but if u put less of it or a bigger stones in and decide to make ur drainage smaller ur soil will mix up and then it won't be damp and moist anymore it will be wet, which can cause a hell lot of problems for the plants and the animal. 2. Where is the cleanup crew? Sure the bioshot with all of its bacteria and fungi helps but u can't get rid of springtails/isopots. If u choose not to include them in ur build atleast tell the customer that they are necessary long term. U guys are still the bio dude so keep up the biodiversity and all of its benefits. Don't just try to sell, educate yourself and ur customers so they take the right decisions for their animals! Love u guy's, keep it up!
