Your sentiments at the end of the video about Goldeneye being magic is quite true. By curious quirk of fate we arrived there at something like 1AM - pitch black, disoriented and tired. My wife woke up early the next morning and pottered into the kitchen to make coffee - but came rushing back in, urgently she emploring, "Wake-up, wake-up. You have to see this!" Thinking there was something terribly wrong I followed as she rushed out to the stone patio - and it was the view that she so urgently wanted me to see. I was spectacular. But it wasn't just the view. It was something for all the senses. The view, the sound of the waves gently crashing onto the rocks of the grotto, the feel of the morning heat against your skin, and that unmistakable taste of the Blue Mountain coffee as we took it all in. The second part which I also agreed with, is that the overwhelming sense of 'the place' that is so wonderfully disarming. The trick is to let the vibe take over. To say Jamaica is laid back is an understatement, but tapping into that vibe is hugely rewarding. I had many side trips planned to other parts of the island, but when the reality set in that would mean being away from Goldeneye for the whole day, it suddenly didn't make sense. Just being there was everything. As you said, I'm sure the Goldeneye team will take care of you on another visit. They are all wonderful and treated us so very well. When you finally get in the Fleming Villa you'll just appreciate it that much more. One love.

FYI meeting Chris Blackwell would be even a greater thrill for me since I'm a MASSIVE Ska fan. He was instrumental in brining original Ska to popularity in the 60's in the UK. Island Records for me was a huge part of my childhood, Bob Marley, Roxy Music, the Cranberries, Brian Eno, PJ Harvey, Annie Lennox, U2 and Pulp just to name a few. Meeting and talking with him must have been epic! Without him I don't know if there would have been the Jamaican music craze in the 70's and without that we not have had Punk, post punk, new wave or 2 Tone ska music, so that man is historically amazing! Did you recorded your talk with him?

@@joanne26 Me too! The Beat, Selector, The Specials, The Skatalites. It also got me into the old stuff like Prince Buster and Jackie Opel. I know a lot of people don't appreciate the Dr No soundtrack album but it's my favorite because of Byron Lee and the Dragonaires. The Dr. No album is all old school ska!

This is awesome! The place is beautiful. Years ago I saw a video with the future plans of the place and I was a little worried that they would overdevelop it and turn it into some sort of "Bondland". It looks almost like they've made it into a Disneyland resort, unfortunately. I visited in 1990. I was staying in Ocho Rios, rented a motorcycle, and explored until I found the real deal. Down a dirt road - the small brick pillars topped with brass pineapples - and the plaque that read GOLDENEYE. It was being rented - but between rentals. I just walked in and explored the grounds and the house - until one of the maids asked who I was and what I was doing. I explained, and she left me alone to explore!!! I stood at the window the Great Man would have looked out upon the sea from as he wrote. I walked the lawn down to the stone steps to the sea where he swam and snorkeled between chapters. And when I left, I met a very old woman whose house was on the main road just up from Fleming's place and she told me stories of when Mr. Fleming and Noel Coward would meet at her home for drinks in the evenings. She had all the Bond books, signed...and several Coward hand-written music sheets - also signed to her. It was my pilgrimage to Mecca. A day I will never forget. It's wonderful that it is still there - and I'm so glad you got to experience the uniqueness that is that area of Jamaica. But I am SO happy that I got to see it and experience it as it was in Fleming's time. Isolated. Unique. Perfection.
