Who could forget the space elves for setting Angron on the path to daemonhood when they headed for Nuceria to eliminate him but predictably fail as he slaughtered them when he was a child? the thing with Angron is very confusing honestly, they could have just, used their ship to gun him down, literally no reason to leave it, just float 30m above him and gun him down, hell, might as well nuke him from orbit to be sure but nah, its time to leave the ship with guns and engage a god child in CQC

Some of the dumbest lore in the setting and that's really saying something. Beating Eldar (a race that can predict the future and have guns that rip the fabric of reality apart) as a child doesn't make Angron seem cool, it just makes the Eldar look stupid.

@@Ghastly1Konrad's first act after reaching the surface of his planet was to ambush, kill, and eat a person. Angron being Angron, he was probably even more badass as a baby and took the Eldar by surprise. Ferrus Manus fought that Necron thing as a kid multiple times and lived until he killed it. Perty was able to cling for a cliff for days I think? When he was a baby. It's entirely possible Angron could have pulled that off.

Eldar are very based, pity GW refuses to update them and the lore writers at GW decide that they always either die like idiots or are outright retarded (rant incoming). The Eldar have existed in 40k since the days of rogue trader as one of the main factions of the game, this solidified during 2nd edition, the actual first iteration of 40k as a developed setting. The Eldar hold during this era a very classical role in the universe of 40k, filling the space of the extremely advanced, old and mysterious race whose motives are not very well known. It is very important to know that the Eldar at this point are considered to be the most advanced race, with the strongest psykers and with a very specific and unique way of fighting working around specialist squads. They were also very relevant, forming the trio of classic factions next to orks and space marines. And while 40k didn’t have much in the way of stories or novels like it does nowadays, the lore snippets made them feel important and influential. About overlapping themes, this is a problem most settings suffer from once they start to expand and they add more races, overlapping is inevitable. An example are Necrons, that stripped Eldar of their old mantle as the most technologically advanced species, but hey, at least they are still the most powerful psykers and masters of specialised warfare… right? Well, ends up now big humans have an army full of 100% psykers (Grey knights), and forget about being the strongest psykers, now every named space marine psyker (Mephiston, Tigurius, Ezekiel, Magnus) has more feats than the single strongest farseer to ever live (Eldrad). In one hand you have Mephiston obliterating millions of tyrannids while he flies away as a classic space marine Gary Tsu, on the other hand you got this 10.000+ years old Eldrad guy whose best feat is awakening a god, that sounds neat before you remember he kinda failed at it because he couldn’t kill a single space marine that was about to fuck up the ritual. And his gets worse when Magnus can easily move ships in orbit, some random chaos sorcerer literally transports a frigate through space without problems and Tigurius can take a peek at the hive mind’s thoughts. Meanwhile almost every farseer to ever appear in a book fails completely at predicting the future (you know, their only job), or display such incompetence it is laughable that these guys have survived 10 thousand years at this point. Oh, and forget about being masters of specialised warfare, because now primaris space marines do it better (yeah, I know HH era marines copied this before, but not half as relevant). And remember grav tech? Time ago only Eldar had it in numbers. Then necrons, Tau and Eldar had em, now Custodes, Space marines, Eldar, Necrons , mechanicus and Tau have it. And now on books. In general BL books are low quality bolter porn, but at least you get to see your faction kick some ass… right? Well, except if you like craftworld eldar, for some reason you are amongst the oldest factions in the entire lore but you have less novels than literally random space marines chapters that are not even first founding. And don’t expect much because only 1 novel about craftworld eldar (Valedor) is any decent. In the rest all they do is being incompetent, useless morons that get pounded by space marines and in general the imperium as they helplessly die like idiots, I guess that’s what happens when Gav Thorpe and CS Goto have written literally most of your books. But then, when Eldar seemed to have lost relevance we got hope in the form of the Ynnari, a faction that would unite all Eldar in a cool as hell version of the space elf Avengers, sounds neat, right? Well, indeed it sounded awesome till Gav Thorpe decided to take a hold on them. And so this faction has a single purpose, to find all the croneswords and both empower Ynnead and kill or trap Slaanesh, this sounds like an awesome time to do what they did in AoS (trap Slaanesh temporarily and drain souls from her) and have the Eldar win for once in their lives. (haha, what a joke) If course the whole thing is a mess. In the end they are incapable of accomplishing their objective since the last cronesword is in Slaanesh’ palace (I guess Guilliman can burn some of nurgle’s garden, but cegorach and Ynnead are too weak I do jackshit, poor guys committed the mistake of being Eldar instead of Imperial). But before this Yvraine gets curbstomped first by imperial guard, then by some demon. In the process of this massive Oof Gav Thorpe delights us by making the cool as hell Spear of Twilight, a vampiric weapon used by Prince Yriel capable of even making the Hive Mind scream in pain and permakilling anything... Into a cronesword, Yvraine transforms the damn spear into a sword, because we all know another generic sword is cooler than an actually unique, recognisable weapon. The cherry on top of this shitcake is a group consisting of Yvraine, The visarch, Lelith Hesperax, Jain Zar, a solitaire alongside a small army of Ynnari failing to kill a single greater demon (ye, those ones space marine captains easily kill in every damn book). So first the visarch and the solitaire die and the rest are defeated by the demon. Then Yvraine proceeds to summon the Yncarne and defeats the demon… that ended up being a simple projection at 1% of its power… You end up with a faction that are old, but not the oldest. Have good technology but are not the best. Fight in specialised squads, but so do other factions. And are a psychic race that is much worse at being psykers than humans. To top things even harder all they do is being pathetic in every damn book (and I wish I had made this about dark eldar to explain my disdain for that turd that is Silent Hunters) and never accomplish a single time any of their objectives.

Ok look... I love it when a creator tries something new. I'm no fan of the idea that a person must be forbidden to change, must be forced to continue doing the exact same thing OVER and OVER again merely because we, the slavering mob, demand it. I want to see creators branching out, attempting the unknown, leaping bravely into the abyss because their explorer's heart demands it of them! That having been said, I am just SO happy you went back to the origin intro. That "uh... Hi!" just makes me incredibly happy in a way I can't adequately define.

The Eldar were stable for literally tens of millions of years before they lost their minds and birthed Slaanesh. What changed? Humanity spread out across the galaxy, became increasingly psychic, and then got themselves slaughtered by their rebelling AIs. Clearly, it was the psychic feedback from that horror show which drove the Eldar nuts. So, unless you can prove it was the Eldar who hacked humanity’s AIs and started the rebellion (it probably was) you can’t claim the Eldar are responsible for the state of the galaxy. That’s entirely on humanity.

I like the aesthetics of elves generally, though can do without the arrogance. Probably why I'm a lot more tolerant of Dragon Age elves, because theirs is more the frustration of the oppressed than the haughtiness of the elite. As for the Craftworlds, I see them more from a Necron perspective: "Ancient enemy, will you serve as a worthy opponent?" In other words: keep updating your older derpy kits so I have "worthy ancient foes" to take pictures of together with my army - and that's why this Necron collector was excited when the Craftworlds got a partial range refresh.

3:00 60-65 million years ago, technologically advanced Necrontyr race expanded space. Accidentally found race of super-creatures - the Old Ones, since the Necrontyr had very big problems with living conditions, health, and besides this, they wanted an eternal healthy life, and Old Ones knew how to solve this, Necrontyr turned to them for help and guidance. Old ones sent them to hell, because they did not want to share the secrets of immortality with lower races. Necrontyr were offended and launched a full-scale war against them. Old ones won, and drove broken remnants of the Necrontyr into exile - into the zone of Halo-class stars. There they found creatures similar to the Old ones - the K'tan. In exchange for help in the war against Old ones and a super upgrade of their technology, Necrontyr swore to serve them faithfully. K'tan made them invincible and technologically super advanced, but besides this, they cruelly deceived them, arranged a biotransfer of Necrontyr into perfect robotic bodies, that do not have free will, turning them into Necrons. C'tan led the silent and weak-willed Necron super-army against Old ones, and thus began the War in Heaven. Old ones were super beings, but Necron technology surpassed them in everything, Old ones began to lose more and more. So, in an act of desperation(!!!) they created cannon fodder for themselves - orcs and eldar. Although in the end it didn't help them. Exactly! Eldar are simply cannon fodder, created in an act of desperation. With the difference that Orcs - are cannon fodder with muscles, Eldar - are cannon fodder with intelligence.

I genuinely love the weird space ninja asthetic. it's super fucking cool, and their units are also totally bad ass looking and lorewise allot of them are really neat. But... As a eldar fan, I basically agree with you on all fronts... they are written like absolute garbage. they are the biggest jobber of the setting and it stings so fucking bad, because they are constantly written like they might be able to do something, or make a difference, only for it to be ripped away again and again. Every reason you have not to like the eldar is entirely fair and valid, because I find them to be incredibly dissapointing aspects of the race too. Being a eldar fan seems to be entirely unsupported by the lore. they're written like a passive observer in the universe that loses instantly the second anything notices them. The avatar of khaine is the obvious example. asthetically and lore wise, its such a cool unit. It's literally a shard of the elven god of war, but it just gets bagged on by everyone. the eldar are a race that is full of huge interesting, high potential plot threads that just never get explored, and never happen despite always being teased as being just around the corner. Cegorach's final trick against slaanesh, Isha being free'd from the realm of nurgle, yneead finally "actually" awakening, even khaine being reformed from enough shards potentially... yet.. it seems like the writers are happy to just dangle those plot threads around to try and psych out eldar fans over an over instead of actually having the balls to pull the trigger on a big universe altering event.

Don’t like elves or honestly a lot of other fantasy race is just from her writing stand point. They’re always like human beings, except they have some really ridiculous over-the-top thing with their culture and then they have a bunch of like crazy abilities and no drawbacks. So it makes humans kind of like really under powered and boring and I feel like this fantasy races would be more interesting if they actually had like weaknesses compared to humans that they had to contend with and then that would make them use their special abilities and interesting ways to overcome most weaknesses. Like elves, they’re just like better humans they’re humans except they’re stronger faster and they live a really really long time and they have like hardly any drawbacks in comparison. Or like dwarves they are just humans but short and really strong and they live really long time. It’s honestly even worse than sci-fi, though. Like the the fucking Vulcans in Star Trek they’re human beings, but they have pointy ears green blood. They live for 200 years and they’re smarter, stronger and faster than humans and they have some minor psychic abilities and there’s no drawbacks. Humans actually have quite a few ability is that most animals on earth don’t that we cannot take for granted like we have the ability to sweat which is super useful. We’re really good at throwing things and we have the ability to run for a really long time because of our efficient gait. We’re like one of the only species that can run for so long that we can actually run until we start to hallucinate from sleep deprivation. If there’s any weird grammar errors or spelling errors in this comment, I don’t give a shit I use speech to text to write it and every time I try to edit it it like jitters around on my screen and it’s super annoying.

@@disfuncionexe eh, it doesn't matter because humans have some vague power than makes them more successful and are everywhere. if give the other races exploitable weaknesses than humans will win even harder. my favorite fantasy race is from dnd 5e, that being kobolds, they have rather interesting lore, they are 2 and half foot tall dragon people with dog noses, they have masters of digging, mining and making anything underground, they are quite crafty when it comes to makes machinery with scraps and also traps, they love traps, they have draconic blood which allows them to use sorcery more often, they can eat almost anything, they worship/love dragons, and 1 out of 1000 of them have wings. sometimes when they are desperate, they use certain weapons like, scorpion on a stick, beehives jar of spiders, glasses of glue. they are mostly lawful evil because good and neutral dragons, despite having major ego's, avoid them for some reason( i,e if they did kobolds would be a common race and be good guys) even when they are in evil communities, a perfect world to them is one where the other races leave them alone. kobolds are fine with living in communities with humans, they are love supporting their communities. they also have a tendency to be at or near the bottom of any social totem poles and are often seen as pests rather than monsters. they have the weakness of Sunlight Sensitivity which basically means they can see that well in direct sunlight, and also their small size leads them to being much easier to grapple/restrain. they have big underdog feel to them and are rather cute.

@@chongwillson972 yeah I don't like humans only succeeding because we have some vague protagonist energy. We should be successful because idk, we have really good stamina compared to other races. This would track with real life, we are endurance hunters and we possess the rare ability to sweat. We also have more slow twitch muscles than average. I like the idea of humans being not as fast as elves or strong as dwarves or orcs but able to run any of them to death. Don't give the fantasy races the ability to sweat and insane endurance, IRL these are features that are special to humans and they should be in fantasy too. Orcs could get the ability to sweat too I think but their drawback would be insane calorie requirements and stronger muscles that become fatigued faster. Humans would be the most successful because we would have been able to cover the planet faster since we would be able to cover more ground then the other races and we would be able to work the fields longer without needing to eat as much, instead of some stupid vague protagonist energy.

They put maybe a couple of million souls in their infinity circuits, networked them together and called it a day. _The Imperium of Man gets those numbers in an hour, and use the entire galaxy as their infinity circuit. The Imperium carves its worship of death into the face of the universe by hand. Have you seen their decor?! Have you read the Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer? _*_Have you read literally any Imperial adage about how the only reward for cowards is another day of fear?!_* The fact that the Emperor of Mankind isn't Ynnead is absolutely nuts.

@Zahaqiel
@Zahaqiel 10 ай бұрын
@@matthiuskoenig3378 It's not like billions of eldar souls, there aren't that many Asuryani and there certainly haven't been that many who've died in the past ten thousand years - the Eldar are _incredibly_ conservative with their own lives, for obvious reasons. And even factoring that in the Aeldari have never had a very high population compared to other races (prior to the Fall their empire only ever amounted to a few thousand worlds at most), and in the past ten thousand years of canon they haven't had particularly high birthrates either. It's millions of collected dead souls, not billions. And secondly, it doesn't matter that Eldar souls are more potent than human ones, humans outnumber them so greatly that the psychic weight of humanity is far greater than the Elder ever were or ever have been (as has been repeatedly reinforced in recent years with the Dark King lore and the predictions of what will happen when the Golden Throne fails, humanity have enough psychic weight to boil the whole galaxy out of existence if they ever create their own Eye of Terror). So point three really doesn't matter. They can accelerate the birthing of a god all they like, their efforts should only ever have been subordinate to the greater enterprise of the Imperial creed's god of death, and their "waking of Ynnead" should have simply given the Emperor some morning warp-coffee.

I think the Eldar could work as a faction but they’ve been absolutely abused and neglected by GW for years now and honestly I think the Craftworld Eldar are kinda obsolete as a faction. 1. The Eldar’s ability to see into the future is constantly nerfed by writers because “Oh we see the future and follow the plan to victory” isn’t a dramatic and interesting way of telling a story, so their main ability that make the Craft Eldar a believable player in the galaxy is often more of a hindrance then a boon. 2. The Eldar elites often don’t get the respect they deserve in most stories: Aspect Warriors are practically Space Marine Tier warriors but they don’t accomplish nearly as much as Space Marine do, and if a Space Marine has an actual name then they can rip through Aspect Warriors and Exarchs like butter. 3. Their role as the Imperium’s main Xenos ally has been seriously eroded over time, after the Ynari plot line fell through the Eldar have been in storytelling Limbo while the Necrons have become increasingly prominent and filling the Eldar’s old role.

Im a space marine gigafan who impersonates a chaplain from time to time hence the profile picture and i see aspect warriors as being above "standard" space marines. Marines are elevated humans. Aspect warriors are elevated aeldari. Aeldari are already taller and stronger, they are more intelligent and they are way faster than us. In my mind something like fighting a formation of aspect warriors should be VERY DEMANDING and VERY COSTLY to the Space Marines. And individual duels should be disadvantegous to the marine, hence there should be a net negative in the folder of "marines who duel an aspect warrior and win" and there should be a net positive in the folder of "marines who found out"
@katamariroller2837
@katamariroller2837 Жыл бұрын
@@OljeiKhan Different writers have different perceptions of power levels, and GW apparently doesn´t have a "quality control guy" to hit people with numbers or something to make the damn levels believably consistent. This is why you can have Dreadnoughts where the pilot is a Space Marine that lost at least two limbs and a couple vital organs yet still survived long enough to be put in a sarcophagus, but at the same time most Space Marines die from, like, a single knife stab in the ribs or something. Personally, I´m of the opinion that Space Marines fighting Chaos Space Marines should look like a no-rules, fight-to-the-death wrestling fight between two rabid lobsters up to their antennae in fentanyl. But on the subject of Eldar, we know they are faster and stronger than regular humans, and even a perfectly normal Eldar is slightly psychic and precognitive. Aspect Warriors are also highly ritualistic soldiers that make fighting in a very specific way their life, and also probably have more experience than the average Butler Bother. So yeah, makes perfect sense that Space Marines and Aspect Warriors should be at the very least on par with each other, until you factor in a) Exarchs and b) the rest of the Eldar army that includes MORE precognitive people, xenophobic psychopats, and people that make battle plans by reading the goddamned future, at which point Space Marines SHOULD be at a disadvantage most of the time when fighting Eldar.

You know, I've been wondering for quite some time now where the whole "haughty arrogant elitist elf" stereotype came from. Tolkien's elves aren't really like that, at least. It actually seems to have evolved gradually over time, almost as if most writers simply have trouble imagining a clearly superior species _not_ lording it over us. While technically not elves, my favorite alien species of this general type (and possibly my favorite in general) are the Protoss from StarCraft, specifically because they subvert the trope. Like, sure, there's that one guy Aldaris and his bosses, the Conclave, who do act like arrogant space elves. But all the Protoss hero characters we follow in the storyline are just plain good guys who are totally chill about hanging out with rough, gruff space-cowboy James Raynor, basically treating him as an honorary Protoss, and over-all they seem to genuinely respect Terrans as resourceful warriors. Heck, the story pretty much gets started because Tassadar figured: "Look, maybe we shouldn't casually genocide these people and write it off as collateral damage just because they happen to be in the way? It's not their fault their planets have a Zerg problem."

@@l.o.v.e-sick5330 Dunno if I consider arrogance to be a _moral_ flaw, though. At least not in the "morally grey" sense, which implies making pragmatic choices. It just makes you sorta insufferable. If anything, having elves be ruthless moral pragmatists might have been a better approach than giving them a cultural superiority complex. See, deconstruction isn't really about making stuff darker or more cynical. It's about "disassembling" an idea or trope and analyzing the constituent parts in order to better understand its meaning and relevance. Often this results in the trope being applied in a more realistic way than originally intended. (This is especially apparent with stuff that wasn't meant to be taken very seriously, like stories for children.) Unfortunately, a lot of people end up think realism and cynicism are the same thing. Like, if you really want to deconstruct elves, you might try to imagine what an immortal being who has been alive for thousands of years might actually think and act like, and what sort of culture this would result in. This is an interesting question because obviously we have no way of knowing and it's quite possible such an individual would have developed a perspective and set of values that would seem very alien to us. Just having this ancient elf be sort of a racist prick isn't "wrong," exactly. I mean, I guess that could happen. But it's kinda shallow. It's still just normal human behavior applied to a being who absolutely wouldn't qualify as "normal" by human standards. It's sorta the opposite of what a deconstruction is supposed to do. Besides all that, the fact that it ended up a stereotype still kinda suggests that the "arrogant elf" resonated with a lot of writers. I sorta doubt all of them set out to do a deconstruction on elves, much less the _same_ deconstruction. It still comes across as if that particular portrayal seemed accurate to many people.

"Tolkien's elves aren't really like that" Thank you! So many people trace it back to Tolkien... but actually, Tolkien did elves right... everyone else failed to properly learn from it. Mainly because they forgot that either you have to be intelligent enough that your "old, wise, intelligent" character actually acts and speaks with wisdom and intelligence, or at least the sense to not have them talk too much and not have them reveal that you're not smart enough to write them as smart.

Yes, Tolkien's elves are exactly like that. I suppose you only read LOTR and not the Silmarillion. The amount of evil they did by having too inflated egos is very hard to overstate. The entire REASON for the Elves to even be in Middle Earth is discord among them, a prince called Feanor leading a bunch back to it from Tolkien heaven, while killing those who opposed him, and then his sons slaughtering others to gain three gemstones from the enemy - all while either ignoring Humans and Dwarves or using the former as cannon fodder. The Elves you see in the movies are the rare survivors who had thousands of years to expunge their pride and become more reasonable. And yet they still talk about how "for a sheep, all sheep are different", or "for me, you are like children", quotes from Gildor and Legolas respectively.

Necrontyr had nothing to do with the Old Ones until they asked for the secret to immortality and the Old Ones were like “lol nah”. Also I’m 99% sure that the Cratfworlds predate the Fall of the Eldar since they were made by the group that saw the decadence of the empire and wanted nothing to do with it. So they wouldn’t be made of Khaine’s bones or have really anything to do with Khaine.

Eh I find them a big boring but they are fine, but not gonna lie saying that “elves are trapped with in Tolkien’s vision” while also being a dwarf fan is a bit hypocritical because dwarfs are always the same in every universe. At least with elves they have three forms of spice, dwarfs are dwarfs in every single universe they basically never change ever

I can't help but feel that part of the Eldar hate I see a lot on the 40k community is that the Eldar have shit story and shit writing. Just look at how the Ynnari storyline went, what few books that go in -depth about the faction, and compare all that to the earliest snippets of lore. The Eldar were the OG ancient technologically advanced race with powers and abilities beyond that of every other faction, with an agenda that was poorly understood but clearly something on a massive scale. They were mysterious, aloof, but not necessarily hostile, and while they were cryptic, it was usually for some unspecified reason beyond "We're better than you so we won't tell you." Now with the Necrons and arguably some of the updates to the Space Marines, they're not that, they're just vagrant pointy-eared space Elves who just float through the void. They're not even the greatest psykers anymore. A lot what's made them unique has been shared with other factions or just dummied down, and don't even get me started on how they're shown in most BL literature. How many Avatars of Khaine have been defeated now? How many brutal assaults have happened on a Craftworld? How many battles were royally screwed by a faction who can predict and alter the future? It's just bad all around.

Yeah the one that frustrated me the most was seeing Primaris marines be basically turned into Craftworld Aspect Warriors. Where it used to be Devastators in the back, Tactical in the middle, and Assault jumping forward, now they're: Tactical Squad of autorifles (like Guardians/Dire Avengers), Assault Squad of pistol and chainsword (Banshees), ambush attack squad (Scorpions), Hellblasters/Eradicators with full complement of plasma or Melta weapons (Reapers?Dragons?), quick strike dual-wielding Inceptors (Warp Spiders), jump pack heavy-cannon Vanguard Suppressors (Shadow Spectres). They're all a squad of single-weapon teams that all do specific things, a concept that the Eldar Aspect Warriors built its units around.

Here's an idea - have them become practically extinct, instead of simply saying they're practically extinct and then having them show up literally everywhere. Then maybe properly play into their "farseeing" stuff; have them become seemingly insane, because they're trying to pluck at the strands of reality to shape/chase futures they've seen, resulting in actions and decisions that are seemingly deranged in the short-term, but end up actually leading to interesting victories in the long-run. Have them move through the galaxy as if they exist on a totally different timescale to the other races, fleeting in appearance but perpetual in influence. Have them talk... a lot less. Seriously, nothing ruins an "old and wise" character more than having them talk to much and revealing that the writer isn't sufficiently wise or talented to actually convey an old and wise character, and having them come across as a 13 year-old's idea of "the older generation". Basically kinda do the opposite of what GW have been doing for a long time.

That's the problem with GW, and has been for years - they can't leave anything alone. The optimal writing approach for the Eldar was to be inspired by the concept art - make them visually wondrous and mysterious... ...and then don't explain too much. Don't have them talk too much. Don't shatter the illusion. Just let them be mysterious and old and unknowable.

Hot take: the (craftworld) Eldar are fully the good guys. They usually get blamed for three things: 1. Birthing Slaanesh 2. Being overly cryptic and arrogant 3. Being a dick to humans. But: 1. They didn't. The dark eldar did. Craftworld eldar are the ones that turned their back on their sinful society and left before Slaanesh was born because they saw it coming and sought to prevent it. Blaming craftworld eldar for Slaanesh is like blaming Vulkan for the Horus Heresy because 'humans committed the Horus Heresy'. 2. Why wouldn't they be? Things always go wrong in books and stories because it would be boring if the Eldar were portrayed as in control as they're supposed to be in lore, but if you're the only one who can straight-up see the future you've got a whole extra sense compared to anyone else, and they are supposed to be objectively wiser and infinitely more experienced than anybody else - they're just never portrayed that way. It's not arrogance not to explain everything you do to a blind, ten-year old child. You don't have *time* to explain a whole new perspective on life to those smooth brains. 3. That one gets me the most, because I feel like that's just human perspective kicking in. Most Warhammer fans are humans, so humans are just the 'us' faction and automatically assumed to be the protagonist. But imagine everything from the standpoint of the eldar: there's this young race, volatile, angry, extremely expansionist, and absolutely *hateful* towards anything that isn't them, including yourself. To the eldar, the only difference between humans and orcs is that humans actively and irrationally hate instead of just loving violence for its own sake. Humanity wants to see the eldar dead. Why should they be nice to people who want to kill them? The line "Eldar would gladly sacrifice a thousand humans to save a single eldar" as a way to show they're evil always had me raise an eyebrow. Your average human commissar would sacrifice a thousand humans to *kill* a single eldar, how is that better?
