As a hobbyist who could never justify the cost of getting an iPad or mobile graphics tablet to draw, Colors Live is just perfect for me. I'm used to drawing in my tiny planner but with this I get a little more room and a ton more tools at my disposal! I'm glad people in the creative world are reviewing it too now. This video would have answered most of the questions I had before buying it.

I had Colors on the original DS (Homebrew) WAY back in the day, and it blew me away that it had decent pressure sensitivity and it just used the regular DS stylus! However, that was before the iPad Pro/Apple Pencil or Samsung Note devices and so it was really a great on-the-go drawing/painting solution back then. Unfortunately, these days it seems much more of a novelty than a convenience. Still, my wistful fandom for the app really makes me want this.

I remember using Colors Live on 3DS back in the day and it was the perfect option for those that couldn't afford a tablet but had a 3DS (or in this case, a Switch) and wanted something to draw digitally around. It's pretty pretty good for a console app, honestly.

For me this is PERFECT. When I'm on the go and I've got some spare time instead of being tempted by a game, I can continue to grow my skills. It's not the best art tool, but when I sketch in a sketch book it's loose and scribbly anyway. If colours live means I have more excuses to draw in my free time, good!

I still recommend an iPad and Apple Pencil even for young and beginner artists, personally. There’s cheaper options for tablets as well that are worlds better. Procreate on the iPad is amazing for beginners as well as professionals. It’s still portable, but if you use bad quality software it can discourage you from continuing to learn digital art in my humble opinion.

more tools and options are coming in future updates, including special layers. there's also a lot more you can do with the existing tools than you'd think, if you spend some time exploring all the tools and options you may be able to discover new ways to use them. and i think you may like the lazy brush, it lags behind a bit when following your stylus allowing you to make smoother curves.

Cool video. One of the great features of Colors! on the 3DS was the ability to connect to another 3DS, and draw on the same drawing at the same time. Each person could be on a different layer, and toggle visibility for their own individual views, so one person could be doing the background, and another could do the foreground! Not to mention the 3D effect was pretty awesome! Does the Switch version allow local-wireless, cooperative painting as well? That feature would make it a compelling purchase.

the main appeal of colors 3d were the online gallery and portability. i used it when i already had a tablet bc it was really nice to be able to draw anywhere and post it to a pretty small online community. i have clip studio and a pretty big screen tablet now but im still kinda drawn to colors live just for the portability aspect (as well as nostalgia lmao)
@ShekOlogy3 жыл бұрын
What would be neat, is if the stylus was able to hover your brush cursor when lifted a little off the screen (like typical graphic tablets/monitors work). That way you could play the game still when you're docked at home connected to your TV. Would essentially make things easier when playing the game/casually drawing (the idea being that you could look at your TV while drawing instead of at the tiny screen). This is a super neat little drawing game!

I saw this on amazon a few weeks back and I was wondering how it compared to other drawing apps. Your review came at a great time! After watching your review, I don’t think I’ll be getting it as it’s more pricey than what we have been spoiled with on the ipad, though I think it’s a reasonable price as you get a $30 ( last time I checked ) pen, + the development of the drawing program ( ipad apps are really under priced ), for me I don’t think it’d be worth it but still super cool to have on the switch! I heard some amazon reviews complaining about it scratching the screen but I don’t know if it’s only if you press really hard or maybe if kids are using it, but I would recommend a screen protector just to be safe. I don’t think I’ve ever been first to your videos before, at least before I wrote this novel of a comment.😆 This reminds me how much I like writing ( despite how frustrating and time consuming it is for me with my dyslexia & perfectionism ) Anyway I’m of to go writing now ✍️

Would like to see more note or to do apps with a hidden game or two and though no camera on the Switch which is possible a downside to it but it very possible Nintendo could have a camera connection via Bluetooth on a mobile phone or something else?
