I am convinced that the only reason the Elves were on foot was so they could do panning shots of a Fellowship walking through mountains and hills. Tom the wizard trainer is completely contradictory to what Tolkien wanted Tom to be. Tolkien says Tom is not improved by over thinking or developing his character. This Tom is 100% off. I blame Simon T for selling out his fathers and being dismissive of what these stories meant to them. And others… such a missed opportunity…

@ZephyrOptional4 ай бұрын
@@Sportsfilmappreciator I think most people would want to capitalize off their family’s intellectual property unless seen as something more special where preservation is more important than wealth. Unfortunately, that’s the world Tolkien laments and we’re now left with the orcish social systems that mechanize and exploit the sacred for power and profit. I guess the answer is one would have to understand its importance beyond its monetary value to care enough to protect it. PJ & RB both had to fight to get their adaptations to screen. Neither are perfect but you can see the heart and spirit RoP is lacking. Hope War of the Rohirrim and other new adaptions feel more like passion projects rather than a cash grabs. We’ll see..

"Commodified fantasy takes no risks: it invents nothing, but imitates and trivializes. It proceeds by depriving the old stories of their intellectual and ethical complexity, turning their action to violence, their actors to dolls, and their truth-telling to sentimental platitude. Heroes brandish their swords, lasers, wands, as mechanically as combine harvesters, reaping profits. Profoundly disturbing moral choices are sanitized, made cute, made safe. The passionately conceived idea of the great storytellers are copied, stereotyped, reduced to toys, molded in bright-colored plastic, advertised, sold, broken, junked, replaceable, interchangeable." -Ursula K. This one is like the first season on steroids. I just couldn’t complete most scenes without fast forwarding. Here is a good exercise in hubris and humility for prospect screenwriters with no previous accomplishments: Write a novel instead and see if you can get it published and well received. If you can’t write compelling original characters with all the time in the world, there is a good chance you’ll fail as a writer doing television. We’re watching novice writers experimenting with a billion dollar playset and failing spectacularly.

We are never given clear distinction to how the rings work, "healing" in tolkiens world already doesn't make sense half the time given Aragorns "healing hands of the king" so a uber powerful ring that enhances the wearers abilities with magic doesn't seem ridiculous if you actually think about the world and not the text. tolkien wrote a lot but he never clearly defined his Magic.

Wasn’t around for the live stream, but here we go: 1) the whole Galadriel/Elrond/Gil-Galad interaction is so ridiculous. 2) Elrond is being portrayed as a rebel with a cause, but makes no sense. 3) Tom wasn’t bad, but the stranger asking him how to do magic made no sense. Tom’s power is not magic…it’s his connection to the world. 4) too many tropes from the original LOTR movies, and the wrong implementation each time. I’d call it fan service, but it is the saddest fan service. 5) the rings from episode 3 are all wrong…I get they are trying to say they needed to be made to save the elves…but…I’m having as much trouble with this as I had with the acolyte - it’s like a checklist rather than a story

How is this a billion dollar production 😂 it blows my mind Jackson was able to do 3 movies each over 3hrs with each film only being 94 million per movie which is crazy they were able to do all that make it so good make the world feel lived in and real and make the characters as close as they could to the source material. This show the characters feel like they are making a high school theater show doing it scene by scene not making the world feel real or lived in from the characters to their clothes to the look from the sets some are nice even the music is just off and bland only their to fill up space its all just very bland and not entertaining. The Showrunners didn't go back to the books clearly and i feel they are waaaaay over their own heads and again they wanted to put their message into this series and NOT Tolkien's message and world view its really quit sad 😢.

Hi Guys, For the whole of season one, I was more than willing to keep going and hope I enjoyed it. The whole idea of this time period being brought to life was really exciting for me. I completely understood wanting to attract new audiences and Tolkien fans by being a bit more inclusive and perhaps simplifying some of the stories and lores. In fact my, then 12 year old son, had his interest in the LOTR peaked again and our 18 year old daughter discover Tolkien for the first time because of this series. I also got the Sauron plot early on and understood why he seemed so fishy, changing from one personality to another as he tried to get his way. But season two is killing it for me, and episode 4 was the bullet that has finished me off. I can only say that poor writing, scripts and weak plot lines are the main reason. I can put up with elves with short hair and an extra few female playing dominant parts but you can’t excuse poor writing or weak plots when the story given to the scriptwriters by Tolkien is so strong and powerful. I mean, an orc complaining about going to war? FFS! And what’s really sad, is that I don’t think we’ll ever see a filmmaker or producer create an adaptation worthy of Tolkien’s world, in our lifetime. Not with our current social restraints. Perhaps and fully independent animated version or CGI, but who would pay for it?

The funny part is: Everything Tom Bombadil said is from the books but the writers have even managed to make Tolkien's actual words carry no impact. There's even a part where after the Ring is destroyed, Gandalf goes and spends two years speaking to Tom Bombadil, so while it is an actual thing, they just keep getting it wrong! But if it's obscure writings from the edge of the series, you can be sure they're going to cram it into the series in the worst way possible.

As always, I love the deep dive, guys! The rings of power has been quite a disappointment overall, as a fellow JRRT fan and avid reader of all his works. And it isn’t just the departure from JRRT lore, but also the changes they’re looking to make are just not even realistic and accordance to it. the writing has many cringe worthy moments, especially throughout season one, and bleeding into this season. However, I have to admit, that I do think so far S2 has been superior S1, even if that bar is set very low to begin with and might not speak super highly of S2. But I have to admit again, there is more to like so far with season two then there was all of season one. I will be extremely disappointed, like you guys and many other fellow JRRT fans, if certain characters are made out to be certain characters that were not a part of Middle Earth during the Second Age. As a fellow fan, I am trying very hard to be mentally flexible with some of the liberties taken so far, but I worry about what is yet to come and the rest of this season and the next three that lie ahead. But, so far from my own perspective, I like what I’m seeing in S2 despite some logic issues that are glaring. I loved the Barrow Wights, even if some of their placement was off of center, I still love that interaction between Elrond and Galadriel, I think that dynamic is really good. And a completely unnecessary opinion, I think Theo will eventually become a Nazgûl. Am I alone in that thinking amongst fellow JRRT fans? But I’m sure I might be alone in somewhat actually enjoying this show 😂

Should be unsubscribing from the channels that shill for the show. They might as well burn Tolkien's books or spit on his grave. Keep up the good work, gents.

I was really so into this and I wanted for this to be good but then I found myself that Im forcing myself to love this and the moment I saw that opening scene with Elrond and Galadriel having a tenage fight like 10year olds, Nori and that other Sam with that Stoor, I turned of the episode and Im not quite sure do I want continue, I probably will because Im curious about Siege of Eregion, but I dont know if thats on purpose or not, but every single villian is more charismatic and more respectfull than any heroes, soon we will get good orcs, like cmon, i will be watching this but Im not enjoying it for a second anymore, what I do enjoy is my 4k LOTR trilogy wich I will play right away

My theory,.. The Dark Wizard is one Blue, "The Stranger" is the other. They came to M.E. together, went East on mission to oppose Sauron, one turned to creating magic cults (NazGals), the other objected, was killed by BadBlue, and was sent back (By Eru, Like Gandalf after the Balrog). That's why the NazGals and Dark Wizard immediately refer to him as "THE Istari" (not AN Istari). They wouldn't even have any reason to expect to meet AN Istari if they hadn't been involved in fighting one. Payne & McKay are just stringing out the Gandalf misdirect cos that's all they have in their toolkit, member-berries and silly tricks like "subverting expectations". I guess they could just completely rewrite Gandalf's origin (to arrive thousands of years early and go fight a Blue in the East) but that would be throwing away one of the very few open story opportunities in the rights they acquired, the very thinly detailed story of the Blues. Of course, if these people had any talent (and self- control to delay reward longer than an infant), they COULD have spent the first 2 seasons doing this story of the Blues and their failure-falling out, in parallel with Anatar infiltrating the Elves and Numenor, and setting up Numenor to be grand and good (before falling), But they couldn't. The needed instant reward and that required compressing all the big events together without earning them and delivering them immediately for instant gratification.

I couldn't make it past the first season (really mid season). I'm astounded by your patience and ability to move past your own feelings. I couldn't continue without shaking lol. I can't blame Tolkien's estate holders. It's the rest of us that want to hold the corruption back.

Amazon should concentrate on delivering consumer goods, rather than corrupting the works of Professor Tolkien.

Back when the partially complete animated film of LOTR was all that we had it was amazing. Then the Peter Jackson films were released and set the standard. Again we are in a period with The Rings of Power where something is better than nothing. Fans know what it should be like, Amazon are not quite hitting the mark and they have all the resources to do so. They don't need to reinvent it, just faithfully reproduce it. Artistic license is best applied to the gaps in the lore. They are missing the opportunity to create something classic and timeless which will not be superseded in the future.

One of the things that is really disappointing me about this show is that unless you already know the lore, a lot of the scenes just appear to be random things stitched together with little establishment. There are easter eggs and references to things that are not discussed much or at all. But if you know the lore, you can easily start tearing holes through things on show since it seems to go away from the lore. For myself, I don't know much of the lore outside of the Peter Jackson movies, so many things are just coming off as really goofy and bogus. I think I'm only really learning the lore of this time frame because of great lore channels such as yourselves. Unfortunate the show is turning out this way, but love this lore channel! Cheers!

I would argue that the people are unsubscribing because the want a break down of the show rather than just plain criticism. A lot of people enjoy the show regardless of the incorrect lore. The show is only based on the books not true to the books

5:36 Haven’t seen the episode at all; but this actually sounds reasonable. Human beings can cover far more territory than horses can in a day. Bipedal persistence hunters. It’s what we evolved to do. And elves in Tolkien are humans turned up to 11. They should be capable of running perhaps 20 hours in a day. Running would be definitely faster over long distances than riding.

I wonder if they didn't use the horses as it may infact slow them down, as elves they can run non-stop without much need for food and water, were as with horses over long distances they may have to stop for longer to feed and rest the horses

Also, stealth would have been essential on their mission. The less they draw attention to themselves, the better.

They got Tom Bombadil pretty right, though Goldberry is not a spirit - she is real. And the Barrow-wights section was good. The show is soo much better than season 1.
