I'm loving the EOS HD V4 myself when I don't want to record in slog2 and have to grade videos that don't really need it. The only thing I did with mine was drop the saturation down, I feel like Andrews saturation settings were just a tad high and I would rather add saturation than reduce it in post. Awesome review and I'm just stoked to have better skin tones, better red's and green's similarly to Canon.

I ended up doing the same and even dropped the saturation to -5 on the V4 on both versions of the profile.

I dig it on my a7r3 but not quite the same as my old 5d m 4. The canon has a almost dreamy artificial look to it. The highlights are smooth without detail , the shadows loose allot of detail as well, more contrast etc. It's almost as if canon's color science "I hate saying that" has more of a baked in lut that quite frankly does not reflect what you're actually seeing. But it Is more pleasing, much like a graded Hollywood film looks better than the raw footage. Great video man!

@@TheBrotographer My conclusion is exactly the opposite with this color scheme the Sony cameras are made even more versatile than Canon cameras. I've just placed an order for an EOS R just to experiment with Canon cameras; but I am pretty sure I'll regret it, and I am just wasting my time on a dying system vs the new emerging stars: Sony, Fuji in imaging.

What is your white balance set to? is it STD, Ambient or white I tired EOSHD.... the images and videos are great outdoors. But the problem is indoors, from your footage your room seemed evenly lit. if you just add a lamp anywhere in the room you suddenly get this high contrast where shadow area gets really dark and the subject face gets overly bright.... Have you experience this? do you know how to adjust this... thanks

And how how many stops does the a7r iii have for video too? It is okay if you don’t have numbers but I would like to know how different both cameras are in DR while filming

With the black level setting that you modified from 15 to 10 dose that make the black levels better. As I do tv reviews so I don't want to wash the black levels out I need them to stay back without loosing black levels details. Thanks again I love EOSHD but was looking at you as a pro.👍

Great review I just Purchased both the A7iii and eoshd V4 to use with the Tamron 28 to 75 F2.8 and I love P1 settings and I'm going to try P2. Can you post you P2 HDR settings for me please. Thanks

No one is even close to Sony on the amount of focus points which is one reason I switched to Sony. Eye AF means no more focus and recompose!!!! woohoo

@@ekphotography Exactly, I used to have the A9, and that was a revelation. I've just placed an order for an EOS R to experiment with Canon (first digital Canon in my life) for a year; if Canon cannot give Sony level of Eye AF in a year with firmware updates, definitely I'll sell Canon.

I appreciate the work you did making this comparison vid. I still however think that sony doesn't have enough information or something in the skintones. Every a7 video I see, people's skin looks like some crazy cartoon orange or yellow. The sony venice color science is much better with good highlight roll off. Sony is very close to knocking canon off with each release though. The next a7 camera will probably have better colors and higher bit rate video, which should match the 1dx ii.

Check out my canon emulation profile utilizing the custom profile and luts I've made. You can see a comparison (its not side by side, but its all I've got using a canon and sony in the same situation/room) when the bride says "I don't know where I'd be without you" with the b-roll of the groom. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGeXl4R3g96KodE These things save me a ton of time color correcting and give a good starting point in my opinion. Its nice because it highlights the skin tones which is a problem I see with my profile without the lut and what you see at 4:35 with Andrew's profile

orange tones are bit saturated in sony. Cant imagine how much tweaking one will do in-camera and color correcting/grading in post. I tried eoshd in my a6500 before, all variants of it, and i gave up. Too much work lol

Why is it called color science when it is actually color preference? If you want accurate colors why not buy something like the X-Rite color checker and use it for your shoot? It will give you a color reference no matter the light source.

I totally understand your point, but first, most people don’t have the time or the situation doesn’t afford them to take the time to use a color checker. Next, manipulation of the colors in camera is still needed. A color check will only allow you to change colors after the fact. You still need a better starting point. That is what these profiles afford you.

This profile is just using the in camera settings to get the "Canon" Color which can easily be done in camera on the Sony. So why pay 29.99 for something like this? You can just up the magentas and yellows slightly in the Sony to get the "same" profile here.

I disagree that you can just change a few things and get reasonably close. Andrew has really done his work and for me the price was extremely cheap. His expertise comes with years of messing with Sony colors and I don’t have the time to do all that experimentation on my own.

The Brotographer we can agree to disagree. Since it is changing color through in color science of the camera, you can certainly get the same results. But you can buy the profile and not have to do it yourself. That’s how I see it. There is no magic.

I bought these for my a6500 and now have the A7III. The A7III changed the color science and is less green now. I do not think it is worth buying the version EOSHD pro color 4 Since I bought V3. So I am wondering if I need to just back off a little bit on these settings from the previous version? Color Depth RGBCM +4 Y -5. Maybe +3 and -4 now with the newer A7III? Does anybody know?

1Dx II looks like crap here, white balance and exposure are set very badly, so It's easy to match Sony to crap :) Try to match it to a proper Canon image and you will see it is impossible, Sony is still too contrasty, greeny and too digital, even when colors are better than default. Sony will never match with Canon regarding colors, the new FS5 II is said to have much better color science and it's still crap and Sony knows that, that's why it is much cheaper than Canon price/features wise..

White balance was set correctly and it was shot in the neutral profile. That’s a canon profile I’m a bit confused by you saying a “proper canon image”.

With the announcement of EOS R and especially with the recent high-quality RF lenses, Canon practically "announced" to kill the DSLR line, exactly as Sony did with the A-mount line; and now Canon tries to catch up Sony before not too late. Sony has shown us what are the possibilities with mirrorless full-frame, which has become by today the de-facto standard. The Andrew Reid recipe is another excellent tool to help us achieve our goals with Sony cameras. BTW, I've just placed an order for an EOS R to give a try to Canon either; so, your experience with matching Canon and Sony look-and-feel is absolutely relevant.
