I thought buteyko meant breathing out longer than breathing in and keeping up the air hunger? Is that wrong? Shouldn't there be much shorter inhales?

Hey Florian, great question (I'll pin my response). A couple of points: 1. This isn't actually buteyko, but rather a breathing timer that can be used in a Buteyko-friendly way (e.g. by really softening and quietening the breath until you feel a gentle air-hunger.). If you want pure Buteyko, then watch this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGbcZX6GnMloqdE. 2. The instruction for this video is to very gently breathe in for 4, and then out for 6. The out breath is slightly longer for more parasympathetic activation. Whereas in pure Buteyko, we start with our bodies default breathing and then make it a little soften and slower (and yes, usually with a slightly longer out-breath) (typically about 10% less air) but not as slow as this timer. Thank you so much Neil, I did this for 13 minutes and will try again tomorrow. What I do, do is the relax and heal almost every night and I often manage to fall asleep. I'll perservere with the breathing and taping the mouth, my mouth is moist, tummy warm and the body is an octave less tense......let's see where this goes. Again many thanks Kind Sir.

Hey @Durga695, yes the Relax and Heal is a great way to prepare the body for sleep 👍. Just go gently with this one - if you feel relaxed, with more saliva and warmth in the body, it sounds like you are on the right track. Thank you Neil for all the work you do. A couple of doubts - can the out breath be via the mouth and are longer pauses between inhalation and exhalation helpful or detrimental in helping one relax.

Hey @jsajeev3046, typically I'd go for just breathing through the nose for both - although the in-breath is more important. It might be that you are breathing too strongly? The breath should be very gently, soft quiet - not big breaths. Or it might not be the right breathing rate for your body. @ it’s better suited. :) I meditate 80 or 160 min per day and I do lots of sports. My inhalation lasts for 8 seconds when I am relaxed and my exhalation for 10. I pause then for around 2 seconds.
