I used to think 'brain fog' was fake until I had covid TWICE! I experiened some brain fog the first time I caught covid, but it went away after a few months. Unfortunately I caught covid again and now I am going on over a year with mild to severe brain fog to the point that I go into panic attacks. I've seeked medical help for months and nothing has worked. It has gotten to the point where doctors think I am making it up or I am losing my mind. Your breathing exercise have definitely been of great help. Although I still have brain fog from time to time, it is not as severe and I have not experienced any further panic attacks. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS VIDEO WITH THE WORLD! I feel it has definitely saved my life, thank you.

Swimming will burn a lot of O2, adrenaline and cortisol. Remember the whole point of anxiety and panic is to prepare the body to run away. About the worst thing you can do is sit still. So you can either reduce stress induction by forcing a breath pattern, or you can burn it off. Either works. Breathwork is probably better during a stressful biz meeting, people think you're odd if you drop and do 50 push ups all of a sudden :)

This really works. A welcome side effect is that my hands (often cold) warmed up during the exercise. Many supposed experts say “in through the nose, out through the mouth” but I firmly believe the nose is always better.

I also prefer to breathe only through my nose, I feel that it works better for meditating and things like that. When I shake myself while exercising, I use my mouth and nose at the same time, but I practically never inhale through my nose and exhale through my mouth.
@deborahbrown6929Ай бұрын
I was thinking about this lately when trying to follow along with meditations that tell you to breathe out through the mouth. I get they say you can release stale energy through the mouth and occasionally I get a natural desire to do a deep sigh of air out the mouth.. but generally it feels very unnatural to me to go in through the nose and out the mouth. In and out the nose feels very calming and natural. I’m sure there is reasoning behind the difference but that has been my experience trying to force the in through the nose out through the mouth approach.

Yeah, this is why people say to breathe into a bag when having a panic attack. CO2 increase actually signals the body to absorb more O2. This is a tried and true method, and is also key to anaerobic exercise.
@thebuteykomethod Жыл бұрын
Hey @JessieJussMessy yes absolutely "CO2 increase actually signals the body to absorb more O2" - spot on. As an aside - for panic attacks it's safer to use cupped hands with a small air gap between the fingers. That way the CO2 doesn't build up too fast (which can also cause panic) and also avoids the risk of Hypoxia.
@JessieJussMessy Жыл бұрын

another thing i was thinking is maybe brainfog is also linked to 'zoochosis' type thing where people aren't in mindful intentional contact with nature enough. or aren't engaged enough / connected enoguh with certain things. just like when you trap an animal in a cage in a zoo it develops 'zoochosis' and starts having brain fog / depression etc. though Of course tho there are million possible causes of brain fog in humans, like viral infection or trauma or sleep cycle messed up etc.

Wonderful! I'm glad you found it so calming and relaxing. Yes the yawn can be a sign that the body is shifting into rest and digest mode. This exercise also helps to open up the airways too because CO2 acts as a bronchodilator. But try to avoid too many yawns or big breaths as then CO2 levels drop, and we get the opposite effect 🙏

really appreciate how you did the whole exercise with us. sometimes when we're not thinking clearly, it's easy to understand what could help, but it's very difficult to actually do it. I have covid brain fog on top of already difficult to manage adhd. This helped me a lot--especially hearing "just keep doing it, it'll take a minute to kick in" since I was already thinking that it wasn't working since it wasn't working as immediately as I expected it to. thank you for how much you anticipated about someone who is in the foggy state where we're needing help and incorporating that into your video. very, very helpful 👍

I've actually just recently discovered on my own that doing "belly breathing" during my walks, while doing long exhales, but exhaling completely, and then doing a quick "to the belly" exhale, and then repeat, I would feel a super sharp alertness, clearer eyesight, etc. I can say from personal experience alone, that this video is definitely valid.
@thebuteykomethod Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing 🙏. Yes the long exhales can down regulate the nervous system - helping us to shift into rest and digest mode which can divert more blood flow to the brain. Also, more CO2 build up. It might be worth experimenting with a slightly slower inhale and not exhaling for quite as long to see how that feels - just if it feels right for the body - it's always interesting to explore and experiment with the breath as long as it feels good to the body and mind :)

@@martymaker yepp, reason why that method, breathing practices, meditation work so well w/ that is because the more O2 u have in your body the less Inflammation there is. Which is what causes illness, our bodies are naturally a LOT stronger than we've been lead to believe in the last 50-70+ years. The more positive thoughts you feed energy too the less stress you have as well as if you meditate, exercise & have a healthy environment/healthy boundaries w/ others! That and being dedicated to being the BEST version of yourself possible. 😁💯💪☯️🤟💚

This exercise actually works. I suffered with anxiety brain fog for a year 24×7 non stop. I could not think straight with frequent zone outs. It was so bad that I had to take break from my job because my job demands mental alertness. I did Anulom-Vilom pranayam (alternate nostril breathing) with breath hold (which is similar to this exercise with slight variations) and Om/Aum chanting. It worked like magic. My braing fog cleared within 15 days and I was back to work. I still do both the exercise and now its helping me with other anxiety symptoms. Please try this. Hope this works for everyone suffering from anxiety.

@@RubbingPotatoes Carbs are like the body's primary source of energy. They're found in foods like grains, fruits, and vegetables. Your body breaks them down into sugars for quick energy. Proteins, on the other hand, are essential for building and repairing tissues. They're in foods like beans, nuts, and tofu. Proteins are made up of amino acids, which are the building blocks of life. It has been helping tremendously with staying calm and focused. Just a question if you don't mind: you mentioned that a breath hold of 3-5s with 10-15s pauses is good start for the beginner. What would be the numbers for the next stage, and when should you move to the next stage?
