The only engineering revamp I really want is the abilty to remove a modification of ground equipment so you can install a new one instead of having to make an entirely new piece.

I personally would prefer letting players to buy all engineering materials using credit. I easily make 100-200m credits a night, but the money is all but useless which make no sense from a gameplay prospective

@@XinMgu that will heavily focus the game just on credits. The point of materials is to have a second resource system apart from credits.

@@XinMgu - Definitely not... credits are the easiest thing to obtain in the entire game. I can make 2 - 3 billion in just 12 hours of exobiology (with zero engineering needed). Thargoid spire farming can bring in 2 billion per HOUR! Any challenge you can take on just by throwing lots of money at the problem, isn't worth the effort. (And if you find the money "all but useless", then I suggest you fully outfit a Fleet Carrier. That will help soak up some of those credits!)

I also think it should be possible to change a modification, on the other hand, I yet only added one or two modifications so far, because the required materials is ridiculous so is the limitations of materials you can hold in your ship.

This year i have finally returned to elite after 2/3 years of just not finding it clicking. IT feels like they have actually put a lot of effort in, and thats only just getting better! thanks again fro your positive videos - even when i wasn't playing your positive outlook and updates are always worth a watch :)

Just this morning (i.e. March 17, 2024 if you're reading this later) I spent a few hours gathering materials to engineer my new class 5A SCO FSD that I popped into my Asp Explorer. I also employed the materials trader and was able to clear out a bunch of stuff that had been sitting in storage who knows how long. I'm happy to say that the SCO drive can now jump my Asp X 5 light years further than the old one, does not instantly cause the computer to scream "temperature critical taking internal damage", doesn't seem to be too severe of a fuel hog and makes avoiding loops of shame a whole new challenge. For the other SCO drives I plan to buy and engineer, I will definitely be looking at these guides and tools.

Wow really appreciate you collating the guide info here. I haven’t played ED since shortly after Odyssey launched but the thing that would get me excited to return is an overhauled and easy to understand engineering system in the game. Guides like this are great in the interim but I really hope an engineering overhaul is in the cards for the future.

Dang! I was planning to do a mats guide this weekend on my newly Elite focused channel - looks like not only got beaten to it, I got Frag cannoned to oblivion! I got the base Python 2 for the price of a coffee (already had some arx) and I love it! Have made some videos - a Cannon build and a Frag build, will publish shortly.

Aren't the same locations like Dav's Hope, Jameson's crash site and the crystal Shards from the relatively distant raw mat systems still the best places to farm? I mean sure, the raw materials are a whole day's work, even with carrier to get you there. But aren't those 'systems' in DTEA's guide still the best spot for raw (if we exclude the Anacondas for Antinomy because those sites suck).

I had a lot of Arx from just playing so I bought a vanilla P2 and then engineered it myself. Only thing I'm not a fan of is the lack of cargo for piracy. Though the possibility of 6 Flachette Launchers is nice for nuking drives pdq.

I think EDCopilot is about the best tool out there. I'm on an exploration trip right now, and knowing when you left the biodiversity perimeter (or accidently reentered it) of the salad you're scanning is quite helpful. As well as having the ability to have the location of a different plant ready for when you are done scanning the current one (by just scanning it with the composition scanner) and having EDCopilot leading you there is very helpful.

The ED Mats Helper is indeed very useful and superior to EDEng in many ways, but one thing it doesn't do that EDEng does is help you figure out what mats to swap with when at a material trader.

It does in fact do that :) Mouse over the mats that you're missing and it makes a suggestion if one is available and suitable.

Maybe it`s funny and weird talking like that, but current engineering suits me in this form with meta gathering, exploiting some conditions... It`s hard, but cheating to do it plays very well with this unfair material gathering :). So I cheat loading and saving, but game also cheats in some way. Win - win. With this meta play it`s hard too! Without meta play it`s masochistic. So only dedicated player will LEARN how to do it efficiently, so every engineered ship is always well deserved. Engineering is BIG goal in this game, reason to do some things. It takes lots time to unlock engineers, to gather materials, and prize is well worth it. With this in mind, this HARD engineering is really beautiful. Not fair, but with meta play, fair enough. Hard, but rewarding. You have to learn how to do it.

FDev could make a ton of cash were they to sell an Engineering Console for Fleet Carriers capable of greatly streamlining the Engineering process. Might be worth 50k ARX. Just a thought. People seem to pay for convenience. Just trying to keep the game funded for long-term access. I enjoy the game.

@@RayHorn5128088056 Selling a terminal that in any way provides material bonuses, discounts, or otherwise adding gameplay that would otherwise be impossible without it is akin to adding a direct option to buy materials with ARX, which is a precedent you don't want to set because it allows them to justify the grind because you can make it less grindy by paying.

I would like to see a reduction in the requirements for unlocking some of the Engineers. I think newer players to the game would be less intimidated by the system if there were somewhat easier unlock requirements.

i hope the new engineering way really takes away the obvious very very tedious grind we are suffering from these days. its what made me quit in the past multiple times, and this week i was on the brink of giving up again. like youre spending a couple of hours of gathering materials, only to see all of them go poof by only engineering 4-5 ship parts... infuriating at leat...

No matter how many guides and things there are to get which materials, it's still painfully boring to do it because it takes HOURS on minimum to get the materials, which you then need to go redistribute, and then go back to the same spot, and repeat the same crap until you have just enough materials. So at the end of it all, you waste half a week doing same stupid thing, and only if you're lucky.

Since the launch by arx of the python mk2 , the number of users who left the game is evident, also in the trailer there are more dislikes, despite being something desired and requested for many years: If frontier does not think better of things, The few remaining users will leave, personally I left the game ...

Thx CMDR 🫡. Adding edmc and tons of tier process ans sites, you definitely can't play Elite without 2 screens. I use Material Helper + edmc + Inara + Remlock + Galnet + edsm + edboard + eddb + edsy or coriolis .... what else ? Maybe i need a 3rd screen for my personal excel files that help me to keep my plans and memory of what to pin or not for engineers (ship & on foot)...well as a mechanical engineer, sometime I wander if I'm gaming or still at work ?😊😅 I guess we all wish that Elite finally include all that we need...but this will never happen right ? That's maybe why new players don't last that much and old men like me start to be overfilled by farming and calculating.😂
