Reedy talking down suburban grounds with the "game has moved beyond that". Has it? One of the finals couldn't half fill Allianz after all the whinging about Cronulla being too small. Eg Watching Souths in a 60k empty seat morgue like Accor is absolutely miserable, and looks bad, even if they get corporate for it. Restructing or building new surbaban grounds like Commbank is the future
@B-tr9kzАй бұрын
He's saying the game has moved beyond suburban grounds with shit amenities and shit corporate facilities, which he is right. Clubs lose millions not having these. There is nothing wrong with having suburban grounds as long as its up to the standards you expect from a multi billion dollar sport.
@TheJuanvegasАй бұрын
@B-tr9kz but then on the other hand says don't bother throwing money at suburban grounds. Suggesting Manly play at Allianz is absurd, you can tell he gets paid to travel to and be at games
@B-tr9kzАй бұрын
@@TheJuanvegas It's a fair question imo. Its hundreds of millions of dollars if not billions to upgrade stadiums to modern standards, and there is a world class stadium across the bridge that doesn't get used enough. I want to keep the tradition of suburban grounds, but if clubs cant find the money to upgrade their venues to modern standards, they may just have to bite the bullet and move to these stadiums otherwise they are losing millions of dollars. I have no idea what the Sharks are going to do, but its good that Manly seems has a plan for Brookvale.
@TheJuanvegasАй бұрын
@B-tr9kz but they can do it. As you say, Mestrov just stated they are in the process of doing it. Reed just put his fingers in his ears. Put it this way, I live in the East, if Roosters started playing in the North shore, I'd just give up my membership. So would most I know, as they wouldn't be able to get there unless it's a weekend. If nice big empty stadiums on tv is what he is going for, fair enough, stick Manly in Allianz
@B-tr9kzАй бұрын
@@TheJuanvegas no one including Reed ultimately wants to stick Manly at Allianz, but if they can’t improve their stadium, then they won’t have a choice unfortunately. Stadiums don’t last forever. The AFL for example bit this bullet decades ago and split every Melbourne team between the MCG and Marvel Stadium, and its worked wonders for them. We don’t want to follow that model and that’s fine, but we need suburban stadiums to be of decent quality for clubs to flourish. We are halfway there in Sydney, we just need to fix up two or three suburban grounds and we are good to go.

If a player has a third party agreement that doesn't pay they can't take it to court because that risks the third party testifying in court that the club was in on the deal. If that happened they'd ruin the party for everyone and be labelled a dog, no player or player manager wants to do that.

Ready's point about Brisbane winning comps is pretty floored. Unfair advantage is an unfair advantage, the NRL shouldn't have the view that, oh they have an unfair advantage but they suck so much that it won't get them a comp. The objective should be to get a fair advantage.

“Play at Allianz. Great Stadium”… until it rains. 828 million dollars and they couldn’t even prevent it from turning into Wet’n’Wild. Could have spread that across all the suburban grounds and improved a number of stadiums

There should be no cap on TPA’s. Players should be allowed to use their profile to make as much money as possible for themselves. The NRL are essentially doing the same thing. They are using players to sell the competition to the public for monetary gain, so why can’t other companies do the same? It can be such a short career for these young men, so they should be able to maximise their earning potential while they’re in their prime years.

TPAs like Nike will let the athletes be known world wide and bring more intrest from abroad and from people that may have never heard of NRL.

RL continues to act like a pub sport by limiting player's sponsorships. The Hayne Plane tried this with JH apparel and the NRL wanted to count this as part of the salary cap. Totally ridiculous. The players should be fully able to cash in. If they run a podcast/become an influencer and earn $millions, should the NRL police that??

Cheesus, the NRL is a billion dollar corporation but the only answer you guys have for upgrading grounds is to put your hand out for government funding as though you are still a community group that operates exclusively on the efforts of volunteers. I am so fed up with hearing businesses complain about “too much regulation” but still want the government to fix everything and to fund everything. Anyone in favour of “smaller government” cannot possibly be in favour of endlessly throwing taxpayer funds at upgrading facilities for “professional” footy clubs that pay million dollar plus salaries to players and coaches. It’s ridiculous.
