Tonto Natural Bridge State Park lies between Pine and Payson, Arizona near the Mogollon Rim. Inside the Pine Canyon, exists the Tonto Natural Bridge - a natural travertine bridge that is believed to be the largest in existence.
Within the canyon runs Pine Creek, a stream flowing year-round which is responsible for the erosion that caused the Natural Bridge.
The park offers both vaults as well as flushing toilets, ramadas, picnic tables, and grills for day use. The historic Goodfellow Lodge, built in the 1920s, also stands showcasing a wood cabin style architecture. It is available to rent for group events.
Tonto Natural Bridge State Park features several viewpoints of the natural attraction and four hiking trails to the bottom of the canyon.
Trails include:
Anna Mae Trail - a 500 foot long, 200-foot descent down a packed dirt pathway to the Natural Bridge. Loose gravel and rocks may be present. The area may be slippery near the bottom of the trail while traversing over slippery worn rocks. Follow the arrows. Hiking boots are suggested. NOTE - This trail normally connects to the Pine Creek Trail, however, construction on the observation deck ends this trail early, making it an out and back trail at the time of filming.
Gowan Trail - a 2,200 foot long packed dirt out and back trail leading to the observation deck. Loose gravel and rocks may be present. There are several benches placed on the trail for resting. NOTE - at the time of filming, the observation deck is currently closed for reconstruction.
Waterfall Trail - a 300 foot long packed dirt out and back trail with a number of steps. The trail ends at a grotto covered in moss with falling water.
Pine Creek Trail - a 1/2 mile long partially developed trail leading to the creek bottom. Hiking shoes are advised.
The bridge-tunnel measures 183 ft high, 150 ft wide, and 393 ft long.

I have been here before. This is a really cool place to visit and walk around. I can remember standing in the center of the bridge looking down through a hole. It is a long way down. This is a beautiful place to visit. When we left we saw about 30 Javalina walking up the paved road.

It's a gorgeous place to visit and those javalinas get around! We have some in our neighborhood now and again.

Great video. I liked that you showed all different ways to see everything and talked about the ease or non ease of the trails and followed up on some thoughts or questions you had at the end. You seem like a really nice man.

Thanks so much! We like to show all the ways to enjoy a site since we know some people may be short on time and others might want to hike or spend the day at a place. In addition, I myself (Amy) have hiked the trails at Tonto Natural Bridge before but now have trouble with certain trails after a pretty major foot injury some years ago. So we try to keep in mind different abilities. 😄

Thanks If you are referring to Tonto Natural Bridge state park, they did not have camping or fishing in the park, but there was other stuff in the area that we will eventually get to for sure.

I've been there a couple times, it is so much fun crossing it, there is a part where literally it rains under the bridge. I definitely will go back to Payson and to visit this awesome natural bridge.

It's getting Harder & Harder to figure out which part of your vids are the best & even harder to think of which vid would be better than another. Your videography & editing is that good. ps Looking forward to seeing an update to this one @CactusAtlas

That place is so neat, and I’m often surprised at how little known it seems to be. Was happy to make it out there to document it and look forward to returning. Thanks for watching as always, we appreciate you!!!

I have 3 kids (10, 8, 2) we’re taking to AZ and it sounds like 1 and 4 are the best for accessibility?
@CactusAtlas
@CactusAtlas 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that sounds right. The biggest hazards are the slipperyness of the rocks underneath the arch, and the effort to go up and down. I could be wrong, but they likely have the walkway open again at the bottom which should help should you choose to descend.
