This worked with fx-82MS too, although the formula was have to be writen: (-B + V(B² - 4xAxC) / (2xA). There's a way to solve Cubic Equations with fx-82MS?

The (-) button is actually pretty useless actually, you can always use the normal minus button and everything will work perfectly. Also you can use the RCL button instead of the ALPHA Button when putting variables on the formula. The only difference is that, ONLY when your screen is empty and you hit RCL A it instantly recalls A. Whereas Alpha A puts the variable A as input without printing it. That happens ONLY when everything on the screen is cleared. Extra tip: When you press RCL or STO (shift+rcl) the calculator immediately expects a Variable, so you don't need to press the ALPHA Button at that moment.

Hello Sir! Do you know how to change an assigned value for instence A without exit calculation.I mean let say we assigned 0.001 to A, and we have a lot of calculation on screen after that calculation can we re-assign new A value for getting new results. For example what is the solution of that calculation if A =0.002.Think that we used a lot of A value in that calculation and its consuming so much time to change all A values. Thank you from now ;)

Once you have done your last calculation with your A-value as 0.001. Input you new A-value of 0.002, SHIFT, STO to A. Then use the UP arrow on the navigation key to go back to your quadratic formula. If you press = it should process it again with the new A value.

You can only solve a quadratic equation when it equals zero. You must subtract 2 from both sides to give 2a² - a - 15 = 0. Therefore your A value is 2, your B value is -1 and your C value is -15. This gives you a values of 3 and -2.5

I am not sure. There is Cardeno's formula with a depressed cubic and such, but I imagine it would be quite complex to do on an fx-85. Best option for solving a cubic via a calculator really is to get a Classwiz 991EX or such and use the polynomial solver. It will do the work for you then, rather than having to setup something very complicated on your calculator screen.

Im not sure if i understand why this is even useful xD. please help me, like to even do this method you need to type in the quadratic formula anyways but in the terms of A,B, and C; Why not just type in the quadratic formula with your numbers and skip the entire 1-STO-A 5-STO-B -2-STO-B process. Seems like an extra pointless step to me.

TBH it’s kinda been superseded by the Polynomial solver on more recent scientific calculators anyway. I suppose a couple of advantages are that if your B is negative, sometimes people can get confused or input it incorrectly either at the beginning of the formula or when it is squared. If you are careful you can avoid this though. If you have a series of quadratics then you can alter the A B and C values then go back to the formula and get further results, although you can go back and edit your formula. Which one is easier I suppose just depends on the individual. It also helped some students to practice using the memories in context. The memory feature is often under-utilised.
