this geo node set up is absolutely insane. I'm not sure how anyone would figure that out from scratch, even with experience.

10:18 hey great tutorial. Can i ask how did you bring back the cube during this moment here?
@tdombui
@tdombui 8 ай бұрын
at 9:07 he plugged the Realized Instances node directly into the Group Output to view the base structure he made (the horizontal curve lines), which then removed/hid the Cube instances. You can skip this step and still follow along and add the randomization of the Cubes instances. Of if you choose to follow along with the tutorial step by step, in order to re-enable/reveal the Cube instances, you'll need plug the Random Value Node => Set Position => Curve to Points => Instance on Points => finally to Group Output

This tutorial is awesome, thank you so much! Just a quick question, what settings do I have to change to search for "cosine" directly instead of having to add a math node and setting the mode manually?

i've used the "node tabber" addon for this. not sure if it still exists though.

@ 8:03 Hey! Thanks so much for the tutorial, I can't for the life of me figure this part out though. When I connect the group input here, my geometry nodes say that there are "no group attributes connected", even though I have it connected.

@@lifesciencegraphics thanks for confirming this behavior. in the example of the other commenter, the problem was, that all his nodes where inside a node group. the error "no output attributes" had nothing to do with this. the solution is simply to go a level up in your node tree (crtl-tab) and add the inputs at the top level of your node tree. only these inputs at the top level are visible in the modifier. otherwise, they are only for the node group.

Fantastic tutorial , thank you very much! In the end I could get everyting working with the exception that for some reason, my group inputs are never added to the geo nodes modifier tab when I add them or rename them. I just can figure out why...

This is incredibly useful, particularly as a beginner to blender. One question, at 18:01 what is the "Viewer" node you're using to demonstrate the output from the "random" attribute, and how do I add one? Everything else has been clear, but I can't work that one out. Thanks again for a great tutorial.

Answering my own question, I found a video describing enabling the Wrangler Add-On and then using "ctrl-shift-left mouse" on the Attribute node to create it.

@@markfisher696 yes :) i am using node wrangler for so long now that i've forgotten that it is not the default. btw the "viewer" node simply is an emission shader

@@100drips Thanks! Can I ask a follow up question, how would I rotate the whole globe in an animation? I tried doing the normal keyframe rotation over time, but I guess as that's not an input to the geometry, it doesn't affect their positions in space, as the "values" are the same over time. It feels to me like the initial Base Structure is where the rotation should be applied, as that sets the locations over which everything else is drawn, but I'm so new to blender i'm struggling to start
@100drips
@100drips 2 жыл бұрын
@@markfisher696 you should be able to keyframe the object that holds the geometry nodes, as the transformations made inside the node tree are local to that object. I am currently not on my computer to test it and I could be wrong, but that's how it always was.
@markfisher696
@markfisher696 2 жыл бұрын
@@100drips It does. I must have been doing something wrong, then went down the wrong path trying to do it in the geometry nodes having given up on normal keyframing. Thankyou
