03:59 When will you take action ? By using Trial Manoeuvre the OOW will know when he (Stand on vessel) is required to take action to avoid collision

Sir, I can't find logic in some points... Assuming that the lines drawn are relative vectors (by the way we have taken cpa and bowcrossing); @13:30 you said cpa is 0.5 miles, and speed is 15 knots. How can we apply ship's speed on CPA here? How can we say that ship will clear the other vessel in 3 mins that way? Am i missing something? Please clarify kindly.

Sir as the same situation you have shown in the video we are stand on A and B is crossing us from port side ( about 8nm from us).....now another vessels C is overtaking us from stbd side and for that vessels as well we are stand on.....we take brgs and determine roc with both the vessels.....we maintain our course and speed now both the vessels are not taking action.....we cannot alter to stbd as per rule 17a 2 and 17c and we cannot slow speed as determined by trial manuver....so only options is to port....so as a stand on vessels can we alter to port as per 17b even if vessel B is say 4nm from us and C 1.5nm.....or our alteration to port would be as per rule 2b
@thecaptainschannel72065 жыл бұрын
Rules talk about one to one situation and not multiple situations. Practically we do have such situations and if both have roc tackle the one with lower tcpa. In this specific case you can alter course to port and rule 17 says take such action as will best aid to avoid collision. This action can be any action. For rule 2b refer to the relevant video.

Sir so can i say to a surveyor that i would alter course to port in this particular situation as per rule 17b....as what i have understood from you video on 2b and what i personally believe is that 2b is the last resort when there is no other option left as per the rules and is to avoid immediate danger......and in the above case i do have the option to alter course to port as per rule 17b even if it says to take action as will best aid " when find herself so close that collision cannot be avoided by action of give way vessel alone"
@thecaptainschannel72065 жыл бұрын
In my understanding yes. However each surveyor has his own understanding and if he is open to discussions you can put the point across. You may also quote my videos as done by some other candidates.

How will I determine the Cpa line while taking action??
@dileeppadmakumar11 ай бұрын
sir can you please tell me exactly that rule no 16&17 applies to all vessels or only to pd vessels. I have seen some surveyors saying 16&17 only applies to pd vessels & rest all come under 18. I mean if there is a situation with pd and ram then rule 16 will not apply to pd vessel and only 18a and actions as per rule 8 and cant even say rule 16 also applies.
@thecaptainschannel720611 ай бұрын
Rule 16 applies to all vessels and rule 17 to all vessels that are stand on as per other rules like vessel being overtaken and stand on in crossing situation etc.

@@thecaptainschannel7206 Sir I have the same doubt, like an example for a situation with a PD vssl and a RAM vssl .. as per rule 18a PD vssls duty to keep clear , And for this situation can we say the term PD vssl as "GIVE WAY" and the RAM vssl as "STAND ON "??? If yes...then would the rule 17a(ii) or 17(b) be applicable at later stage for the situation between a PD and RAM ?

Sir what was the need to have rule 19 separately despite all the actions taken in rule 19 does not contradict the part B section 2. Sir Ivan safe speed and Lookout are already covered in section 1 of part B then what was the need to have rule 19 separately sir please explain
@thecaptainschannel72067 жыл бұрын
In rule 19 both vessels are equally responsible to keep clear of each other. Also rule 19 is for vessels not in sight of one another and you may not have a working radar.

@thecaptainschannel72067 жыл бұрын
Relative plot i.e. OA line extended and perpendicular to line of approach from center.
@b1ack-wolf5 жыл бұрын
use relative vectors on your radar, the side on which the acquired targets relative vectors pass to your own vsl, is the the side on which you will have her CPA

Yes. Safety is a concept and has different interpretations for different people. Hence companies have guidelines in their sms i.e. manuals about when to take action and what minimum cpa to maintain in coastal/open waters etc. .
