sir, according to my study, range of the plume represents the recieving ability of radar. And if so in the xmpl you gave, recieving efficiency has reduced to 80 %, means the blip which earlier painted as a bigger target on ppi, now it may appear small or will not appear at all. what i understood from your lecture . the blip will appear closer if efficiency is reduced. Its contradicting to my information please help

The range of the echo received drops because the transmitting power has reduced. Due to the reduced transmitted power, the transmitted wave travels to a lesser distance and hence echoes appearing at a lower range. hope this clarifies.
