AMD, these trucks were built in Fremont, California used to be called the Nummi plant, my father was in charge of taking care of the Toyota forklifts, that they used at the plant he worked for the forklift division Toyota, he had 60 forklift mechanics on site at the facility I remember when these trucks were rolling off the line I was able to go with my dad one day, Toyota had What was called the brass hat program we used to get these trucks at a substantial discount rate, at that time they were producing the Corolla, the matrix and the Pontiac vibe the Tacoma frames were built by a company called Dana and a lot of the interior bits were produced by a company called Johnson Controls at the time ……Managers that worked for Nummi had a free car that they drove for about a year after that, they would sell the cars off throughout the other parts of the company, we owned various numbers of Toyotas over the years Camry, Avalon previa, Cressida and including several numbers of these trucks throughout the years.

In our family we have a Tacoma and Vibe that were built in that plant. For a number of reasons, I chose the Vibe over the Matrix which was built in Cambridge, Ontario.

Test drove a very well-kept 99 Land cruiser a couple of years ago with 351k, but had been recently been lifted (3" OME) and I needed something more highway ready. Got an 04 Sequoia with only 209k. Things like this make me feel just fine about long term prospects (outside of rust!)

I just bought a 2007 4Runner with 55k miles and it still looks perfectly clean except for minor scratches on the hood (probably from a car wash) and a few scratches on the back. My goal is to bring it to 400k, and I’m confident I will largely because of this channel. Thank you, brother.

Back when Toyota made affordable, high quality small pickup trucks, unlike the unaffordable, relatively large, complicated, and unproven Tacomas of today.

I have a 2003 Tacoma prerunner 2wd 3.4L v6 automatic 5vz-fe with 230k. I have done all the suspension work on it as well as new radiator. New front brakes and rotor, brake fluid service. The only thing I could not do was the timing belt and water pump. I've done all fluids as well. And of course multiple exterior door handles!!

This is very very nice but the amount of time and effort to keep something that nice for that long means I didn’t have ANY fun with it or the effort of detailing afterwards voided the fun. Especially if it’s a truck. Props to the owner but that level of commitment isn’t for me. Maybe on an old Supra/Corvette/Jag/Ferrari or something but even then…. Idk. It’s one thing to keep a garage queen 2,000 mile a year vehicle this nice. It’s an entirely different endeavor to daily it and do the same. I’d rather just wash a vehicle, keep up with the maintenance/seal rust, then when it’s time for an overhaul go frame-off resto or just a repaint/interior refresh.
@JAY-97-975 ай бұрын
billbob! that would be Fantastic!! to see a quarter-century-old Supra/Corvette/Jag/Ferrari with over 1/3rd million miles that is not a garage queen and has spent its entire existence in the salt belt with proven miles on salt-laden roads. It would be Fantastic to see that! do any like that you know of exist out there? ... I have seen a late 1980s MR2 that has done battle with the winter salt monster in Indiana with that many miles but it is a bit rough around the edges ....still was running well last time i saw it

Gorgeous Tacoma Jeff, I own a 98, 2wd 5sp manual 120k, 0 rust, I use surface shield or fluid film before the winter!!
@efil4kizum4 ай бұрын
how do you like the surface shield product? it is only a few years now on the market and I have not tried it as of yet. I first tried FF about 5 years ago and it totally SUCKED in the rear high wash areas, every time i ran through a heavy Iowa rain it would always wash right off, did not stick at all
@kellyquezada39084 ай бұрын
@@efil4kizum I like it. It's supposed to last longer than ff.. doesn't have that stinking smell either
@milfordcivic67555 ай бұрын
If you keep up on the maintenance, oil coat the frame, wash it every week and keep it garaged, it will stay nice for a long time. If you just put gas in, ignore maintenance problems and only wash it when you get a freebie with a fillup, your vehicle won't be long for this world.

Impressive. My 2004 Avalon has always been an outdoor car. Of course this means that it has road rash from parking lot clumbsy drivers, a fading paint job and upholstery that would be replaced if it didn't cost an arm and a leg. However, it runs like it did on the first day, brand new and it is absolutely clean inside. Permit to share some surprise I experienced. My first radiator lasted 17 years. Previous to buying this car, I had many years of observing people with radiator problems and I vowed to service this car's radiator more than recommended in the car manual which warranted the car for 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever came first. I was shocked to read that people were doing good if a radiator lasted 10 years!

This video brings back a lot of great memories. My first vehicle I bought after I graduated high school was a 2000 Tacoma that was essentially a three year new version of this vehicle in this video. I drove that truck for 18 years and I miss it all the time. I didn’t get to 340,000 miles but I came pretty close I almost got to 300,000 but some bimbo pulled Out in front of me and killed my truck. I bought a 2021 tundra after that.

this is what I aspire to do with my 2023 Tacoma TRD Off Road 6MT. already undercoated by me, garaged, break in oil changes performed at 1,250 miles, then 4,500 and two other oil changes. just clicked over 9k miles, and at 15k miles, both diffs, transmission and transfer case fluid will be getting done. everything is all Toyota parts and fluids.
