Excellent review. Having driven the new RX 350, I prefer 2022 and older models with a traditional reliable and strong V-6, traditional buttons, manual gear selector, no auto stop, etc. I wish Toyota would keep the V-6 as an option. Maybe most buyers of the RX don’t care but for some segments like myself it is a deal breaker.

I too am a fan of the old timey V6, but if we're talking "strong" the turbo 4 is noticeably stronger and the torque is present in a much more usable rev range. Around town the T4 feels effortless by comparison.

At the low end the power delivery of the 2.4T is superior and it's not even close. It's also not really my opinion, feel free to check the spec sheet if you're having a hard time with it. The difference is likely even more noticeable with the old 4.0 from The 4runner.

In my opinion, your reviews are the best around. I feel like you speak to/for the majority of people interested in buying or just learning about cars. So many other reviewers tout the gimmicky tech and actually complain if a certain model doesn't have it. Manufacturers need to listen more to everyday people (and you) and less to the opinions of reviewers whose opinions are skewed because they spend so much time in very high-end, high-tech cars. The average car buyer either can't afford or doesn't want all the techy gimmicks. Please keep up the good work and thank you for being genuine 🙏 God bless.

I recently bought a 21 RX450h and it has been amazing. I had it in for service and detailing and was given a 24 RX350 as a loaner. There is no comparison between the 21 and the 24. The ride on the 2024 was noisy and felt jarring. Your review is spot on. When the 24 loaner was turned back in at the dealer, my service advisor asked what I thought of the newer model. I told him everything and he said he had heard the same from others. It took about 4 months to find my 21 hybrid with all the options I wanted but it was worth the wait. That's not a true comparison, transmission or engine failures may be more because there are more of Toyotas on the road than any other brand and many are used commercially, and you work in a Toyota shop.. some toyotas do like 30-45 K miles in a single year, driving for Uber or rentals..

@@wasaym3436 Well let me put it to you this way. I've only replaced ONE hybrid transmission since the Prius was introduced in 2001. The engines are basically the same on hybrids and non-hybrids. The Akinson cycle engine on hybrids just have a different valve timing to be more efficient while sacrificing some power. Right now Toyota hybrids are pretty much bullet-proof, can't say the same about their other vehicles. I've replaced a few Camry and Highlander transmissions before they hit 30K. As an auto engineer, I love TCCD's reviews. It is fun to watch you break down the different company's design decisions and quality. As an auto engineer, do you think the Lexus are made much better than Toyotas? Worth the cost if one has the $?
@anthonythomas7 күн бұрын
@@robertd.5479 There's a video on this channel discussing this exact topic. Based on that video, Lexus is Toyota with luxury features, I don't think it's any better from an engineering standpoint. If the luxury upgrades are worth it to you, then it's worth it. Otherwise no.
@johnm.87427 күн бұрын
@ With the higher Lexus sticker price, cost drops down on the design trade offs equation. Lexus can spend more on more sound insulation, extras features like heated rear seats & heads up displays, bigger engine, premium tires, or nicer seats/leather than a Toyota. Often, the underneath platform that a vehicle is built from is common for both the Toyota & Lexus versions. Many parts of the common platform would be designed & tested to meet the common company quality requirements. An engine starter on either Toyota or Lexus is engineered to meet same expected lifetime number of starts. For sound quietness, a luxury variant might have laminated side window glass for less wind noise in cabin, and cheaper vehicle might have just single glass windows. The customer decides if differences between vehicles & dealerships are valuable to them. For me to decide, I would pick the vehicle type that I want (3 row suv), & test drive the Toyota highly optioned version vs. the Lexus version. Of course, then you have to do a spreadsheet analysis of all the things that you liked or didn't like about each. I'm probably not the typical buyer though! 🤔 The Lexus predator front end styling would lose 20 points on my spreadsheet though.😆

Completely agree with you about the cabin, It's an amazing place to be, you will not be tired even after a long commute and it's worth every penny you spend, if you are looking for a reliable, fuel efficient and comfortable daily driver, just go ahead and buy.

Great review that provides good insights into the pros and cons of the vehicle. Although as a rx500h owner, I do have to add in that the channel review seems to be overly positive on Toyota and Lexus products and ignore many QC issue and design flaws. Mine was built in 2023 May, dashboard rattles within the first few days of operation, transmission hard one to two upshifts at 3300 miles, hesitate from a stop almost causes a collision because I am turning left with on coming traffic. It is a powerful car to drive, not without its issues. Low speed forward and reverse jittering. Excessive vibration from the engine on when idle as an engine mount issue. If you analyzed just by experience and based on paper, everything is great, you see an engine based on a reliable design, exciting new techs, conservative turbo charge setup etc etc, but when you own one of these things for over a year, problems going to surface and in my case, powertrain issue throws me off. So I really hope that the review also touches those points. Instead of keep saying it is reliable and you will be happy.

I'm sure the cabin isn't as quiet as the Lexus and the doors don't sound as tight, but has physical controls that feel nice and are easy to use. Wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay works every time so I always have top notch infotainment which, thanks to Assistants than now use generative AI, can be used without having to touch anything leaving your eyes free for the road. My biggest issue with the I4 turbo isn't that it hasn't got power; it does, especially in hybrid trim. It's just that no matter what you do with it, it just doesn't give you the same tier of refinement that something like a V6 delivers. I'm probably biased because my daily is a V6, but when you drive the V6 and an I4 interchangeably, you start to notice it. I get why they ditched the beloved 2GR. It's just a shame that we are losing some of the best engines in the name of emissions regulations.

6:35 From a sales standpoint, it actually makes sense that Toyota is now putting some of the latest generation tech on the lower-priced models. People aren't buying enough Lexus, Acura and Infiniti vehicles even when they had the newest features. Might as well put those features on the cars that actually keep the company afloat.

Got rid of the 3 and 5 series due to reliability issues. I’m a DIY person especially with my cars, thanks to YT! 😂 I’m not sure about the new RX’s now and pretty much the whole new models of Lexus. I’m definitely keeping all our cars as long as they’re running. Older Toyotas/Lexus vehicles are way better reliability-wise in my opinion.

The new doors mechanism don't bother me and after you get use to it that is fine, never had problems. But have to agree with the steering wheel controls are a little annoying. The engine noise also could be better, specially because when you drive slow the car is soo smooth and refine but you just press the accelerate pedal and the engine grumps like a monster. Nevertheless I'm very happy with it, such a nice car to drive, would change it for another car.

Agree with this assessment, totally. My 22 RX is in for service and I have the 2024 version of this exact model in my garage right now. Fit and finish is great, but there is a glaring difference between the smoothness of my 2-GR/8-speed versus this turbo 4 cylinder/10-speed.
@CraigSmith-t5d7 күн бұрын
We are a Lexus family. I drive the RX. One thing you failed to discuss, maybe intentionally, was long term reliability. These are known to 400,000 miles without breathing hard. The RX weighs in over 2 tons, before anyone gets in. The 4 cylinder engine will have to work pretty hard in everyday driving. I know all manufacturers have to downsize due to emissions and gas mileage requirements. But if you are going to make a 6 cylinder, one should be here. The longevity of this RX will not be in the league of the older ones. I love my RX, but you can have this one.

Wrong, the v6 will have to rev out significantly more than the turbo 4 to meet the same torque demands. V6 might be more reliable due to simplicity and less parts but the idea that it "works harder" isn't true

Spot on review. Lexus needs to ditch the 4 cyl and offer a 6 cyl turbo Period. That would eliminate a lot of negative reviews and catapult this car against an x5 and probably win for better long term reliability. wtf where they thinking?

It is refreshing to see a vehicle reviewer who goes through why it will last or not. Too many like Edmunds and TFL just rate butt warmers, gadgets and tire size and tell you how great they are when they just drive it a few days or a year max, not caring how they will be at the end of a loan. So sick of them.

Wild story. An acquaintance of mine bought the first year of this new generation RX. The transmission failed within 200 miles while driving down the highway. At the time, the dealer said it was some unknown problem that had affected only a small number of the new RXs. After this experience, the lady didn't want the vehicle back and didn't want another Lexus. Lexus immediatly said totally fine, we are so sorry. Lexus bought it back and reimbursed 100% of fees, registration, and taxes from the transaction. I'm sure that transmission problem is a non issue now. I was however impressed by the swiftness and no-argument attitude of the brand to totally unwind the purchase.

Spot on! I have the 2024 NX350 and it's a gimmick fest. The capacitive steering controls are annoying. The all touch interface, lacking textile buttons is an insult. Driving around the city on uneven roads and having to aim for the correct area of the screen to hit a touch toggle switch and/or slider take the aim and steady had of a seasoned Delta Force sniper. It's just stupid. The way the audio portion of the infotainment is set up is noting short of insane. If you're listening to your favorite MP3 (please, don't lecture me about Spotify), and let's say you are listening to a song of a specific album and you would like to choose a different song on the SAME album there is no back button. You have to navigate to the root directory of "Artists", scroll down to find your band or what ever, then find the same album and then find the alternative song on that album which you want to listen to. All of the above things constantly force you to keep your eyes off the road. I've never had a vehicle which forced me to look at the infotainment so much while I drive. Then the overkill in "safety" features. Constant warnings, beeps, messages... COME ON Lexus! I'm in front of a wall, I put the car in revers and my front proximity sensors and screaming at me. Why? The message center in the middle of the instrument cluster "reminds" you to turn on this, turn on that, the road ahead may be slipper, your wife is sleeping with your neighbor's stepson...WTF??? Again, anything to take your eyes off the road. And I STILL haven't figured out how to prevent the HVAC from always being half way on when I remote start the car. I have it off on the app, checked the infotainment but nope, every time I remote start the car, I get inside and it's always blowing air at me. I noticed that with HVAC on, the engine takes longer to warm up. Care nut nailed this spot on. User experience 4/10

I apologize for interrupting your flow on this video, but, three years ago you published this video "Which fluid to use for Toyota Diffs,Transfer Case and Manual transmissions." I was excited that I would finally learn the truth about "hypoid" gear oil, which Toyota specified for my 1991 Toyota rear diff. However, you didn't mention it again after the introduction at the beginning of the video. I just Googled "hypoid gears," and it's what I expected. Basically, automotive differentials require oil that's rated for extreme pressure because of the design and geometry of the gears and how they interact in operation. My question is - what is the "hypoid" specification that we should look for when changing our gear oil, or, should we follow your advice and simply change the GL 4 or GL 5 oils in our rear diffs more often? Thanks for all your videos. They have assisted me in keeping my 3VZ-E alive for over 370,000 miles including a free head gasket replacement at 103,000 miles. That recall worked for me.

I don't mind the steering controls though. After about 2 months i like them better than the old steering wheel controls. Also agree on the buzzing of the had engine when you need it. It changes the cars characteristic from luxury to economy at those times. In the passenger side seat slide button: that's only on RX450h+.

Great review. I have this same model, owned since September. I actually love the door buttons. You do need to explain it to new passengers but once you get used to them, they are seamless and intuitive. The tech isn't that easy to navigate around and requires some studying. I don't like having to use the screen to scroll albums and tracks - it's distracting. The engine can be a little graunchy when you put your foot down, however when you switch between modes when cruising the change is hardly perceptible. The electric rear seat drop is slow but it's a lot easier raising them on a button than it is manually! Equipment level is insane on this model. The intelligent lights aren't as good as on my previous Merc but still good. Seats super comfy. I don't like the way dirt and crud gathers under the doors, not sure if that is a foible or fault. Most buyers go to Lexus for comfort and long term reliability and you can't fairly compare them with Audi or Mercedes if its power or street cred that you want. I'm happy to just cruise and get out the other end with my lumbar region still in the same place. Overall I'm happy with my choice. All the best.

This version is made in japan. The rx500h is the top dog and made in Canada including the black line. There were a ton of these available in December but most are sold. I only saw one rx500h left atleast in northeast. Tariffs may be skewing the sales. Also it seems the Canadian version rx500h is only made in limited batches. But it's been good so far.
