My Camry was built in Japan in 2010, and it has over 250K miles now. Never had a coolant or oil leak. Still has the original water pump, radiator, starter, alternator, transmission etc etc etc. It finally burnt out a headlight ... This car is mostly original aside from brakes, struts, tie rod ends and battery. That's it. Regular oil changes do the trick. It runs like new, 33mpg with the 2.5 and 6 speed. I Love my Camry !❤

@@hamza-8978 there's no way to know for sure, but I believe owning a car made in Japan makes a big difference as far as quality control is concerned. I only use original Toyota parts, and I do most of the work myself. An alternator can fail for a number of reasons , including driving habits, factory defect, wiring harness problems, and battery quality. I found out about the Oil consumption and took the to the dealer a year later and they also replace the Dashboard. I also had to replace the alternator because the bearing went out, but this was a really easy job on this car. Overall I'm really happy with it, plan to drive it as long as it holds.

I bought an 09 Camry at the end of Jan 2020. It had 95k and I paid $4500. I use it to deliver auto parts and I put 300 miles a day on my car. It ends up being around 80k every year. My first year with the Camry, other than a battery, I spent exactly what I would have spent if the car had been brand new when I started. Tires, Brakes, oil changes and filters. Now at 181k, I went to tune it up last weekend and found oil on the coils, which means I need a valve cover gasket. The car runs great and I'm expecting to get a minimum of 300k before I sell it. As far as burning oil, yes, it does burn a little bit of oil. Currently, it's about a quart every 3000 miles. I'm expecting it to get worse as time goes on, but at this point, it doesn't seem to be a big deal. It hasn't affected how the car runs at all.............yet.

I also got my dashboard replaced (for free by dealer) since it melted every summer and was a safety hazard. My Camry is running great with 176K miles on it. I got a new paint job, new headlights. I bought 4cylinder '09 before I saw your videos on the oil problem... the car history is three owners, first a rental company (ick -- but maybe more likely they got the warranty service?) for one year, then two owners in an areas with no snow and less than 10" annual rainfall... In my 3 weeks with it I haven't smelled oil, the last oil change was 2000 miles ago, and it is filled above fill line. I've only identified one scary issue with it -- twice right after I started it (starter sounds great, engine sounds great whether idle or doing 60) the engine suddenly turned off (no stall type gasp, just off) and then it would refuse to start (even though 1. the engine was warm from running 15-20 minutes prior and 2. it sounded good trying to start) until I let it rest for a couple minutes -- coil, distributor, plug? (injector or filter issue would cause idle problems, right? doesn't have those. after first stall changed air filter) The paint is in horrible shape from front bumper over top and down through the back bumper, but body only has a few door ding dents (no accidents in its history) and paint on sides is like new...I'm wondering if I should do like a bad home blend/paint job to protect it from rust (of which it has almost none on entire body that I can find...but I've always heard rust is the toyota disease), and then have a professional clear coat put on? Just leave it the way it is? Or just have it clear coated? I only wonder in terms of making sure this thing lasts another 15 years.

first I would like to thank you for the work you do regarding educating the consumer on buying a Toyota . and specifically. the older and the used once. because used buyers/consumers are more venerable. income aren't too high or one house hold income that can't afford brand new car. so yeah getting into troubled used vehicle is a disaster to some point I think it should be illegal !! but final thought I think why Toyota is getting some poor reliability because its made in (Kentucky united state ) it is not Made in Japan anymore . that's why Toyota will slowly look like others when it comes to reliability . I was driving 1995 Toyota Camry no problems what so ever. !! only one thing. because the owner wasn't on the car wash thing. living in upstate new York the car was so rusted . but everything works on that vehicle really good with no issues !!! this vehicle were still running until last year . took it to the junk yard while still running again and only because was rusted from 1995 to 2019 .. so its driven for 24 years daily in upstate New York . that how made in Japan stands out in quality .

Ahh you forgot the few guys like me who have the flaring 6 speed v6 early models. I bought my 07 se used 2 years ago with 138k not knowing this problem. I put a “zipkit” valvebody refresh and now I have 180k mix driving (half city half highway) since I used to do doordash deliveries. Reason why I put that kit in because mine was flaring alot and in all the gears except 1-2. But so far i am very happy with it and even thought it still flares every now and then at 4-5 upshift I am very confident that it’ll reach 200k no problem. Worth the 700$. Still a great car, lowkey sleeper too. One theory I think that you never have to do any trans jobs in these cars because even with the 6 speed flare they don’t actually fail and leave u stranded. And u say toyota owner just drive these cars without doing anything, they probably don’t even know what a trans slip is lolol. They be like “if it keeps going foward imma keep driving” haha. I think my trans is one of the worst cases of slipping/“flaring” u660e’s. But if those people have a trans that slips a little and less than mine originally, they probably over looked it, which they should since it’s not a big deal most of time.

Just turned 230 k on my 2007 V6, bought it at 49k. Engine is amazingly reliable . Just did struts, flex joint on exhaust twice, alternator, one oxygen sensor, one wheel speed sensor, the rear sway bar bushings. Just runs and runs. Only think that is troublesome is i cant keep rotors from warping, tired bosch, oem rotors same result…synthetic oil every 5 k, trans fluid at 100 k , spark plugs at 120 k… . When my daughter needs a car she gets this and i am buying another camry

I was interested in a 2009 Camry from a small car lot so I called my local Toyota dealer and asked them if I gave them the vin if they could tell me if the work had been done for the tsb for oil consumption and they acted like I was crazy. Said they could not do that. Oh well, I’ll just avoid this year

I received a 2007 Camry SE 4-cyl for free and it's hard to just junk it instead of fixing it up. It has a head gasket issue where coolant is entering engine. Would changing the head gasket and head bolts be enough? Or do I absolutely need pistons and rings? It's at a Toyota dealership getting worked on in NY. Also, will 5w30 be ok in the Summer so that it's harder for oil to slip past rings? I appreciate your input

How are so many of you driving such old models? 😮 I just got the 2011 Camry and even that seems rather old school. Here in Delhi, India, any petrol (gasoline, as you call it in the US) vehicle more than 15 years old is not allowed on the street. For diesel vehicles, it's even stricter, at just 10 years. I don't foresee myself keeping my Camry for too long...more of a quick purchase (need of the hour, really did not have time to look around).

Great, informative presentation Car Care Nut, many thanks. I have a 2009 Camry with the 2GR-FE 6cyl, 120,000 miles, bought about a year and a half ago, had a clean and detailed CarFax. My question is, it has a faint ticking or chattering sound when the engine is cold, and as it warms up the sound gets quieter. Sometimes when the engine is fully warmed up (20 minutes or so) I can't hear the ticking sound at all. Is that sound caused by the hydraulic lifters in the overhead cam? Is this normal for the 2GR-FE with this many miles, or is this something I need to have repaired? Absolutely love this car's performance. Thanks!
@TheCarCareNut4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching my videos. The ticking noise that goes away when warmed is normal in these engines. Almost all of them to some degree make that ticking that goes away. As long as it’s not a grinding noise on start up that lasts up to 5 seconds then you’re good

I have a 2009 Toyota Camry and I have to replace the fuel pump, Cv axle boot torn, Midpipe exhaust leak, and motor mount. Toyota fixed my leaking oil problem under warranty 2 years ago but should I invest money into a car with these issues ? (161,000 miles on it and I’m the second driver I got it at 110,000)
@TheCarCareNut3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Most of these issues are not big ticket items. Curious on the fuel pump and why it needs replacement. The CV boot can be replaced without replacing the axle. The mid pipe can be expensive through Toyota but having a muffler shop fix it is much cheaper. The motor mount is not a big issue and would be last on my list if you want to do it in 2 goes so it wouldn’t be one big expense.

I've used three new sensors same problem. 250,000km v6 dosent eat oil. Air filter changed. If I disconnect battery after poor acceleration it functions normally.

I bought an oil-burning 07 Camry 3 years ago. My Camry used to burn a quart very 500 miles and it started to smoke on cold starts. I had the valve stem seals replaced by a local shop for about $1000, and bought a bottle of AcDelco Top Engine Cleaner, and did a piston soak when engine was shut off for 20 minutes, still hot, and flushed it with MMO and sucked it all up and cranked it out. I then changed the oil and drove about 50 miles and changed oil again with filter change also. My car now burns a quart 4000 miles. I changed oil again and am keeping an eye on it. Now after 1600 miles, the oil level has gone down to the middle of the dipstick (between full and add marks). I'm thinking of doing another piston-soak after 3000 miles before the next oil change. There was a TSB for tranny U250E that the previous owner didn't take care. The line pressure solenoid in it was the wrong part which causes a big bang before stopping. I bought the suggested solenoid (about $100) and put it in myself that took care the problem. I did notice metal shavings when I took it apart. Now the transmission is smooth as silk. I replaced the radiator, and planning to replace the water pump as the coolant slowly sips out from the weeping hole on the pump. But the leak is very minor, and I'll also keep an eye on it. The coil spring on the strut was broken that took me a while to find the source of the clunking noise over bumps. I had the strut replaced. Now the car runs well, and I can get average 30 miles per gallon local and highway combined.

A question about 2007 Camry SE water pump longevity. I took the water pump pully off and inspected the air and weep holes both are clean, and the axle spins smoothly. It seem to be in very good condition. My car has 194k miles. I bought an ASIN brand water pump just in case, but don't know if my original pump will last the life of my car. Should I keep the new pump or return it?

@@Odamate One year later, my oil burning speed went up from 4000 miles/quart to 3000 miles/quart. I'm going to do it again to beat it down to 4000 or higher. The AcDelco cleaner cleans spark plugs very well. How is your result?

Hello!! I need your help!!! I’m going to go look at a car tomorrow. “It’s an 2009 Toyota Camry with about 175 miles on it. 4 cylinder. Clean title with no problems.” What are your thoughts off the back? She claims nothing is wrong with it & Everything has been well maintained. 🤷🏽♀️ I’m not sure what I’m supposed to be looking for or what’s important to ask her???? I know now by watching your video I SHOULD ask if it’s been checked for repairs. But of course, she says YES!!! Please help!!!

Hi! I would ask her for receipts showing that the engine oil burning issue was fixed by the dealership. If she can’t present that I would call the dealership with the VIN no and ask if it’s been fixed. If not I would be careful buying this car as it could burn oil it not fixed and be an issue car. If this is been taken care of and the car is in good shape it’s actually a good car to own

Is the vvt rubber oil line in the 2008 v6 a problem... Ive heard that it can leak and game over,,, Is it worth replacing prematurely
@TheCarCareNut4 жыл бұрын
It is an issue although most of them have leaked and got fixed by now. If you’re going to replace it I would get the all metal line and never have to worry about not again.
@kennethwilliams48744 жыл бұрын
The original equipment oil cooler line had a well documented leakage problem on the 2GR-FE 6cyl. Toyota issued a TSB on that and replaced the rubber hose (a short hose that you can see from the top of the engine) with a metal-reinforced hose. You can recognize the replacement by a white or yellow vertical stripe on the correct hose. If you have any 2GR-FE with the original equipment oil cooler hose, have it replaced ASAP with the Toyota replacement or, as the Car Care Nut suggests, an all metal line. This hose is short and stationary so I'm not sure why Toyota thought that it had to be flexible, they should have just installed an all metal line in the factory.
