I've been having some hard time as a 33-year-old Data Analysis/Visualization Intern, coming from a Humanities Background (I'm changing careers). After watching this video, I realized i have a more business-oriented profile, rather than the data one. It made me feel a little better! THX

Same here, 34, humanities post grad, small business manager, sales manager, now doing finance for local government and wondering what to move into next. I thought self taught data analysis would be my jam but this video is making me reconsider which niche to attempt a push into.
@jadlteif81435 жыл бұрын
Great video. I would add a few things: 1) A dream team would be composed of both business and data analysts split into smaller teams. I'm a data analyst and I typically work with one business analyst. Hierarchically, the business analyst position is higher than my data analyst position, because it's the business analyst that drives the studies making sure the direction the analysis is taking corresponds to the company's overall needs and views. 2) Often, once my studies are complete and I have results, I present them to the business analyst in order for him/her to make recommandations and finding ways they could suggest implementation strategies that would fix the operational issues I found in my studies. FYI, I have an actuarial science degree and the business analyst I work with the most has a degree in business and marketing. The other business analyst I sometimes work with has a degree in communications.

To me: As a programmer of 30 years, I look at Business Analyst as heavy on elegantly documenting business processes. Data Analyst as heavy on creating elegant Realtime visualizations of business performance. Often Data Analyst gets mixed in with database administration (ie: serious techie stuff). Business Analysts often double as a Computer Systems designer & implementer. Am I missing something?

The data analyst path seems more intimidating. My experience with trying to visualize and analyze data in Excel for example is that there is a propensity to produce data that people don't agree with. For example I work in a hospital and sometimes when I pull data it looks like I captured everything, but later I realize I forgot some small area of data I forgot to cover. It's very embarrassing and can cause a lot of tension. Does any other data analyst ever experience this?
@TheCareerForce4 жыл бұрын
Almost every data analyst experiences this at some point if they do it long enough. There's a lot of responsibility to manage information correctly and this is where expertise in an area can be very helpful because you start to learn the most likely potential errors.

@youssefsabry98295 жыл бұрын
You need python only I think
@TheCareerForce5 жыл бұрын
You don't need to learn C. Youssef is right that python is a good language to learn (the most popular one for data science and data analytics right now). If there is a particular industry or company that you'd like to work for, look at some of their job descriptions to see which language they use. R and SAS are the two other popular languages right now.
@Subvenio5 жыл бұрын
Couldn't imagine anyone using C for data analytics, R or Python if your going down the open source route. Most business around my area use proprietary software such as power BI. Dont forget to learn excel inside out as most business stakeholders will expect data available in that format.

What’s the difference between a business analyst and a Project manager? They sound identical
@TheCareerForce5 жыл бұрын
I've made a note that this is a good topic to cover in a future video. As a short answer - a business analyst is typically focused mainly on the delivery and a project manager is looking at the entire scope including budget and resources. It's common on smaller projects or in smaller companies that the business analyst and project manager end up being the same person. On larger projects, the project manager will take the high level view managing every aspect and the business analyst(s) will focus on the hands-on work of requirements gathering, analysis, and facilitating some of the delivery.
