Good to see the two blokes together on video ! Amazing pick up!this thing IS very special. I stopped watching WRC when Peugeot started winning championships with a car nobody could buy in a dealer. Toyota just brought back that excitement that we had when you could buy a 22B or Lancer TM edition knowing that the car was straight related with the rally beasts.

@@TheCarGuysTV Thanks! I personally don't think this little car isn't just an antidote to the lockdown, as Damian mentions at 19:30 or the oppression of the motorist, but also against the daft rat-race between manufacturers of building cars with more power, more tech, more weight, more speed, more gimmicks but also less driver involvement, less purity, less noise and, most importantly, less fun?

- How did you guys find the height of the seat? - Agree about the stupid IPad screen sticking up out of the dash (worst current day interior design tic by far) . It's well worth sacrificing it as a delete option if possible. - Someone said the fake engine noise can be switched off at a garage? - A rougher-sounding sporty exhaust seems like a must - Plus of course a cheeky Stage 1 remap, because you can (and could someone chip away the speed restrictor?) - I can't decide if the stealth black or fiery red is the best colour - I pray they decide to extend the manufacturing run and make more than 25 000 - surely the giddy reaction it's caused means they should really commit to it? Damien - you simply must acquire one, it's an instant classic

When you change the original seats for bucket seats, let me please know how much lower the seating position becomes. I'm defiantly in need of more headroom as the car provides stock. Its nice to see this sort of car back on our roads, most of the hardcore JDM cars were never available for sale in the official UK market (but were better and more focused over the cars we had in europe), and even more focused than the Yaris GR. But the Yaris is a compromise between comfort and modern technology compared to the likes of Mitsubishi's Evo RS or Subaru's WRX STI Spec C, which were a group N rally car for the road, the Subaru in particular, having (still) one of the best AWD setups with an automatically adjustable centre diffetential which would adjust your torque distribution (depends on which model year) 35F 65R to 50/50 and diff lock, plus a quick rack and its light weight of 1350kg (1310kg for the 16 inch tarmac version), seam welded shell (compared to the spot welded standard car), no sound proofing, thinner roof panel, less paint layers etc to reduce weight, something the GR Yaris has avoided in the most part as not to compromise the drivers comfort or looks. What is good is the 1.6 3 pot engine, not quite the most powerful 1.6 road engine out there but its not far off, though the use of a single scroll turbo still baffles me a little considering that twin scroll turbo's are more responsive units, especially low down in the rev range and may well have been a better choice for a small engine. Now, the only other concern is how much praise the GR Yaris is getting for its AWD and grip levels, you will be getting drivers with no experience of awd thinking that these are an all weather car (this includes snow and ice), and fail to drive to the conditions (I've already seen a picture if one GR Yaris with some front end modifications due to over estimating the cars ability v drivers ability), and wonder after 2 years, how many will have not made it to the end of the lease period. As for power, Litchfields car made 277bhp at the fly wheel but only 211bhp at the wheels, thats around 25% losses, its ok for an AWD system, again its not the best for reducing losses but about average (again, Subaru's later systems lost around 17-18% from my experience with DCCD equipped cars), which is again baffling considering the relationship here. Overall, the GR Yaris should be a big hit, hopefully avoiding the smash and grab crowd and the over confidence in the awd system crowd as well. One last thing, the fixed limiter for 143mph is at 6000rpm, but this car isn't about top end speed, don't buy one if you are hung up on the fact its limited, it won't go much faster.

I guarantee that no-one will believe this but it's the gods honest truth: About 4 years ago, my girlfriend had a little silver 3 door Yaris, which she'd had for years (it was absolutely bomb-proof). Whenever I wasn't driving my own car (a C63AMG at the time), I would drive hers. The car was light and chuckable but vastly underpowered - the fun was extracting every last ounce of power from the little 1.0 16V engine and keeping it on song - amazingly, it was a LOT of fun and sometimes (shock, gasp) more rewarding to drive than my own car, which was too powerful to fully exploit on the road. One day I said to her, "You know what, this car would be epic with a 4wd system, uprated engine, sequential box, LSD and Brembo brakes - a real pocket rocket and so much fun to watch other driver's reactions, as they get their doors blown off by a Yaris"! We laughed at the thought. OK, so the GR Yaris doesn't have a sequential box or Brembo brakes but BOY, do I wish I'd written that idea down, I'd look like a visionary now... 🙄

One of my friends just picked up his new GR Yaris and kindly let me take it on some proper roads for it where I was able to clock up 200klms on the odometer. From the many cars I’ve driven I’d say this is damned near perfect in all of the aspects you would desire in this type of car. The one criticism often levelled at this car is that the seating position is too high. I took it on a sealed C road up a long winding lumpy bumpy hill climb essentially, that I’ve been up in a few cars with a much lower seating position and this was far better and I believe it’s entirely intentional. I could read the undulations in the road effortlessly from that driving position compared to the lower seating position in other cars where I would have to lean up and forward at each questionable section. Proper rally car.
