Shawn, Awesome vid and the comparison dialog between the 2.0 and the Reservoirs. Can't wait to hear about the DSC's on the RAM.

I'm running the Carli Backcountry system with Reservoir Shocks on my 2022 Power Wagon. I've had it on for about 13 months. It's great for my desert adventures, as I live near Virginia City Nevada. I have bottomed out my suspension many times by driving fast on some roads, and I'm considering a heavier shock. For daily driving it is great for me as I spend a lot of time on the freeway also. I do want some air bags with Daystar cradles for any load carrying I need, while still being able to get my articulation. I kept my factory sway bar as I like having a choice of engagement. So far so good on Carli...I'm not disappointed..

Our Boss, Sean Reyes, went from the Commuter -> Back Country -> Dominator. Both Commuter and Backcountry were great but for what he was using it for, it was a bit under valved or tuned. The Dominator is now overkill for his needs lol. We're looking at doing the Pintop next or going to a Fox 2.5

Yes DSC’s on the Fox Resi’s make a world of Difference just with a twist of the knob before Jumping in to do some High speeds or back on the Road

Yup we have plans to throw on some 2.5 DSC on the Powewagon hopefully soon!

I went with Bilstein 5160s using the stock springs and Thuren track bars. This helped make the Power wagon handle better with weight and firmed it up overall. I did not want to go any taller and feel like the bilstein handle weight better.

chopped off the sway bar ends, left the module hooked up, but held out of place. Installed new sway bar in factory location.

I know this is an older video, but been doing research into suspensions for a Ram 2500 build on 37’s. Looking for suggestions to find a balance of road/highway, off road capabilities very similar to yours, without sacrificing too much towing capacity. Any and all are welcome! Love the videos!
@ShockSurplus8 ай бұрын
No shock is really going to affect towing capacity; but maybe you mean towing 'capability'. Capacity is how much the truck can handle. Capability is how well it does it. Most shocks can do it all, but something like a Bilstein will be much better on the handling aspect, and maybe less forgiving on the offroad aspect; a bit more chattery. Fox will be more forgiving and softer in the rocky chatter, softer on the pavement, but sacrifice a little on the handling front. But both can handle a 10k trailer fine.
@dustinbovey78658 ай бұрын
@@ShockSurplus Haha I did mean capability, autocorrect took over. I greatly appreciate the response! I’m very new to it all but love learning. I was thinking the Fox 2.5’s actually for some adjustability. Would they have much of a negative impact on payload then, or no?

So i live in BFE and do more country style off-roading so my 20 PW is stock and wasnt sure what shock system to go with.. for a comfortable daily driver but able to still go off road and hit trails and mud holes

The Fox 2.0 really changed the ride for the better on the chattery terrain on this vehicle. Improving it even further would be going with Thuren's 0.5" coils + fox 2.0 would also improve comfort and performance.

is this review for a back country leveling kit or the back country 3.25?
@akathedude326610 ай бұрын
thanks for the videos!!! maybe you could give me some advice. i live where there are a lot of broken pavement, potholes and lots of band aids on the highway. would the commuter be better or backcountry? i would like to go with 3.25'. I also tow our travel trailer, 21 foot boat and duel seadoos in summer. not much towing in winter.
@ShockSurplus10 ай бұрын
Commuter for sure. It does not sound like you are really using it in anyway that would get the shocks remotely hot enough to warrant an external reservoir, and the valving on the IFP Commuter shocks is a little better under a load

I just purchased this fox shock system but im having second taughts after watching your video . I drive a f350 and do more heavy towing and was looking for a stiffer more stability type of thing , i have yet to install it Is this a good set up for that or there something else you would of recommended
@ShockSurplus Жыл бұрын
The Fox works great under a load if you get the CD adjustable shocks otherwise if you are not looking to spend that much you would be better off with something that has more Digressive valving like a Bilstein 4600 or 5100 if it has been lifted or leveled

How fast can you hit whoops with this kit
@ShockSurplus Жыл бұрын
You can definitely go 10-15 % faster than a stock set of shocks on most applications, but if you are looking to go fast over whoops you really should be looking for more than a 2" body shock on pretty much anything, but especially on a full-size truck that weighs as much as a Power Wagon. These use basically the same size piston and internals as the stock Power Wagon shocks, so although they stay cooler and ride a little better, they do not offer a huge increase in high speed off road performance. However, as the kit's name implies, that is not their intended purpose. These shocks are part of Carli's Backcountry system, which is a more basic trail and overland oriented suspension system. Their Pin Top and Dominator systems which are aimed at more high speed off-road performance use 2.5" and 3" body shocks for good reason, as although the Commuter and Backcountry kits ride heaps better than stock, they are a bit out of their pay grade when you want to go smack whoops.

@freelyroaming10 ай бұрын
What people think they 'need' is totally subjective. Very few people NEED to drive 40 mph on a dirt track and most people can just change their air filter twice as often. So sure, no one need to do that. But most who own them will use them at one time or another which arguably necessitates them. By the same token, very few people need a power wagon. It is all a first world luxury.
