Hello! I'm going to knit a scarf with a hood for my mother using a lovely chunky yarn that has a gorgeous halo. I'm going to make a length of scarf, fold it in half and seam it from the fold far enough to create a "hood" effect with the remaining portions of the scarf draping downward over the front of her body. Since it is a simple design, I wanted to find a beautiful stitch pattern. I have been enjoying your videos very, very much. I haven't decided which one of your designs I will use yet; but, I'm certain it will be grand! Thank you!

I had no problem with this pattern working out. I made mistakes initially as is not unusual for me. But the pattern worked out fine once I realized my error, which was working the yarn overs correctly. If you pay very close attention to the video, you will catch it. It's a unique lace pattern and I recommend sticking with it! You will love it!

If you knit the scarf in one piece and use a traditional bind off you will end up with one scalloped edge and one straight edge to your work. If you create two sections and bind off as usual, you will have a bulky seam to the back of the neck, but your scarf ends will both be scalloped. I recommend using the 3 needle bind off when joining your 2 sections of scarf together. This gives an invisible and flat seam to the back of the neck whilst retaining scallops to both edges of your work.

I'm knitting this pattern at the moment....rather tricky actually...you really have to get used to the way the knitted stitches on the needle look so that you immediately know/see when there is a mistake in the row below....I use 8 ply Opal sockyarn together with a brushed alpaca yarn and needles 7mm and have casted on 50 stitches. I think I will try to connect the two parts with the kitchener stitch. Lovely video's, thank you!!

This is so pretty..I am a new knitter, so I am wondering, how would you start this? Would you go right into the pattern that you showed or would you start with a row of knit or purl before beginning the sequence? This would make beautiful fingerless gloves! Thanks for video..

Thanks for this video ... I know Knit & purl only ... wanted to play with some pattern and found yr video ... will see if I can follow the step to make this beautiful scarf... I have a question - why do u join the scarf at the end .. u join end to end or u actually fold half to join...I am from Singapore which is a tropical country and we don have chance to wear sweater/scarf as weather is rather hot ... so Singaporean don really like knitting at all... Thanks for sharing

I am so happy I found this channel! I want to make a lace pattern infinity knit scarf. Do you have a suggestion how I could make it an infinity scarf with the ends being scalloped like they are with this pattern? Because I want to join them but don't want that seam to look bulky!

I love your work and inspired of knitting and crocheting more!!

Correct and well spotted! I have improvised to show how the two knitted pieces will join together. You need the 2 pieces in order to achieve the attractive scallops to both ends of your scarf. Hence the join.

Hi there this is such a lovely pattern. I want to do it in 4ply how many stitches and what needle size did you use for the one you were wearing.
@TheCastingOnCouch5 жыл бұрын
Franstntn I would try casting on 57 stitches using 3 mm needles. I remember this panel being quite narrow, so expect your scarf to be about 20 cm wide. This pattern works in multiples of 7 stitches +1, so it may be worth experimenting with to get the desired width. Good luck!

Hi! I have just started knitting and obviously this choice of pattern does not help me understand when I have done something wrong (or I am too inexperienced to tell), but could you please tell me after you finish the first row how many stitches you are supposed to have on the needle, because in the second row I don't end up with four perls. And is there a way to secure you work in case of a mistake. I must have restarted it at least 15 times because of a wrong stich. Thank you very much.
@TheCastingOnCouch12 жыл бұрын
If you knit this in one piece your scarf will have one scalloped edge and one plain edge. I prefer scallops to both edges which is why it is knitted in two pieces with a seam at the back.

8 balls of twilleys makes a nice long scarf. Where did you purchase your twilleys wool from in the end?
@CrazyMiceLady12 жыл бұрын
Probably a stupid question, but I've just recently started knitting, never with a pattern before. Does the amount of stitches you start with, include the very first loophole, or is it rather for example 'loopknot ; 7 cast off stitches ; +1' ?
@sammyseal2612 жыл бұрын
Hi there :) I love this pattern so much, but I was wondering if this would work with a (US) size 9 set of needles. Those are the largest I have and when I looked at the conversion size 9 mm needles = size 11 (US) needles. If anyone knows, I would really appreciate it.

@TheCastingOnCouch12 жыл бұрын
Just a normal cast on. The repeat will work in multiples of seven plus one. It needs the plus one in order to work properly. So in my Lace Scarf I cast on 43sts ( 42 + 1). Print off the free written instructions from my web site. Good luck!

I just recently learned to knit and have been trying this pattern but it never seems to come out correctly. I started with a bit smaller number to practice and did 36 but when I finished first row would have, say, 29 left... Not sure where im going wrong. Id love to knit this but I dont have enough wool and cant find any wool shops.Is there anywere you would recomend?
@TheCastingOnCouch13 жыл бұрын
It is knitted in two parts so that you get the beautiful scallops to BOTH ends of the scarf. If you knitted this scarf in one, it would have decorative scallops on one end of the scarf and not the other. (Therefore you need to join the two sections together).

Marina, I have changed the beginning and ending stitch pattern so that the number of stitches match. I gave up on the written sequence. Good luck!
@TheCastingOnCouch12 жыл бұрын
The needle size should correspond with the yarn you intend to use. Check the ball band for this information and go with what the yarn maker recommends. This Lace Scarf works beautifully in many yarn thicknesses, so you do not have to limit yourself to a certain needle size. Do you have your yarn?
@Christina037able12 жыл бұрын
I have another question that i hope you dont find stupid. On the print instruction it says to know to the piece is 50cm, is that when i do the three kneedle bind off? Another question or do i just kit two rows and bind off that way, or knitt it as one pice and then fold it in half and bind off that way. i'm sorry for the quesions, determined to make this scarf.
@TheCastingOnCouch12 жыл бұрын
Yes 22 stitches would work this pattern. You need multiples of 7 plus one stitch!
@TheCastingOnCouch11 жыл бұрын
The pattern will tell you how many balls you need when you refer to the size you decide to knit. I tend to buy more than I need so that I do not run out. Most good wool shops will allow you to return unused yarn. Check out with your yarn supplier if you are allowed to do this.
@vckrscindy11 жыл бұрын
I have a question for you. How many skeins of Twilley's is needed for the scarf. It appears, in the video, she is holding 2, but I bought 3 and it is not near enough.
