I like y our idea of using this at the end of a shawl. I can't find a pattern I want to use so I am trying to design my own. What other lace pattern would you use with this? I think I'd do a small section of stockinette or garter after the horseshoe or just continue this stitch for half the length, then starting at the other end and grafting them together so the horsehoe is at both ends. I want most of the shawl to be lace but have not found the pattern I want to use yet. Any suggestions that will go with the horseshoe will be appreciated. Will there be a problem if I do the whole thing in the horseshoe stitch?
@JoannesWeb2 жыл бұрын
Yes. I do the grafting many times because I want the same look at each edge. There's the fishtail stitch also. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHvdmqmsfpaKrqc. Or a roly poly.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5bcY4GGmpp7l7M. I like the idea of a shawl with the horseshoe lave throughout. Just make about 8 rows of seed stitch at the bottom, top and 6 stitches of it on each side, to prevent curling.
@ruthkaplan55392 жыл бұрын
@@JoannesWeb Thank you for your suggestions. I like the fishtail stitch and will probably use it. Your videos are great. Is the pattern written out anywhere? I went back to Michaels to look for a third skein of the light gray yarn I had bought recently. They did not have 3 with the same dye lot so I bought 2 more of a medium gray and I will use that for the horseshoe stitch at the edges and then switch to the light gray for the body of the shawl. I wanted something neutral and the offwhite and tan were boring. The yarn is called Woolike Simili-Laine and very soft. I'm h oping it will have good drape. I'm not on Facebook; is there another way to send a photo when it is done?

Hi, thank you so much for this video on your Horseshoe Lace Stitch. Q: I would love to add a boarder to this pattern; i am making a scarf. can you advise what stitch i should make the boarder out of that would look good w/this pattern. AND, i want to make this pattern wider than 21 stitches; maybe 31 stitches, how would the pattern change, if i add stitches. thank you
@JoannesWeb7 жыл бұрын
It would look nice for a scarf if you have 4 stitches on the sides of only knit (garter stitch) Make about 6 rows of garter stitch at the beginning and at the end, also.
@JoannesWeb7 жыл бұрын
This pattern is a multiple of 10 + 1. So, to make it wider, you need to add 10 or 20. This way your pattern will come out nicely.

If I want to make shawl using this design , how many cast on numbers I have to apply, pls suggest
@JoannesWeb Жыл бұрын
You need to make a few rows of garter or seed stitch at the bottom and the top. In the middle you have your Horseshoe Lace Stitch but need to have at least 4 stitches on each side of garter or seed stitch. I personally like the seed stitch. It's fancier. The number of stitches depends on the multiples, the yarn and the needles you use. Be aware it should be a multiple of 10 plus 1, without counting the edges. So it should be, for example 60 plus 1=61. Depending on how wide you want it to be.

You probably casted on too many stitches for the front and the back and didn't take the saddle shoulder stitches into consideration when you did your number stitches. You can make a long ribbing at the neck and bind off with a smaller needle, to tighten it.

It depends on the yarn you are using. Use the needles that the yarn calls for, on the larger side. If it's a worsted #4 yarn, use a 9. Of course it depends also on how you knit.

The end will not look the same as the beginning since it's the upper part of the pattern and it tends to not wave as much. But use a 1 number larger needle or bind off loosely, so the pattern doesn't "pull" and the wave is clearer.

Hi, Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. I am a brand new knitter, so I don't always understand knitting instructions. When you say that this relies on multiples of 10 + 1, do you mean (a) (10 + 1) or (b) (10) + 1? If i wanted a scarf that is roughly 50 stitches wide, Option A would require 55 stitches but Option B would require 51 stitches. I hope that my question is clear. Thank you again.
@JoannesWeb10 жыл бұрын
Jayadancer1 Good Morning! When we say multiple of 10 plus 1, we mean 10, 20, 30, 40, 50...plus 1. This means 11, 21, 31, 41, 51. You would be adding a 1 to the multiple of 10. In your example, it would be option B.

Hi! I have tried the pattern with the exact instructions multiple times and from the very first row I am missing 1 stich to be able to close the pattern. I casted on 81 stitches but somehow I am missing the one to be able to k1 at the end my first row finishes with k3. This continues with the rest of then and for example I can´t p1 at the end of the 3th row either....I have to end with k1.....and so on. Anyone knows what am I doing wrong? I really love this pattern and I am struggling with this. Thank you.

Oh no!!! I believe you are making each repetition with the k1 from the beginning. The repetition starts with the yarn over. It's always from the * to the *. The knit one from the beginning is done only once (at the beginning)

@JoannesWeb9 жыл бұрын
littlemissgigles29 You can measure the head...it's usually about 22" around. Measure how many stitches you need, by making a swatch. You do need to make sure you have the amount of multiple stitches that the pattern calls for. Knit about 7" and you can now start taking off.
