How to Transition Your Cat to a Raw Meat Diet | The Cat Butler

Today I am going to show you how to transition your cat to a raw meat diet. If you own a cat, you know that they can be picky with their food. Trying to transition them to a new type of food or brand can be a challenge. In this video I will share some key tips I learned transitioning my own cats to a raw meat diet.

From my personal experience I found that cats dislike or hate dry food/kibble and preferred wet food and raw meat instead, so I found this process very easy. My cats just took to raw food like it was nothing, in fact they loved it so much more.

20+ years ago, I imported a pair of Norwegian Forest Cats from England. They came with a small bag of Science Diet taped to the carrier. But when that ran out they refused to eat the American produced product. Remembering that the breeder mentioned once feeding kittens frozen "peepers" I get some chiken necks. They loved it but I had to get used to crunching on bones. I fed them meat from animals they would likely hunt; chicken (bird in general), rabbit, fish rarely. They always had a raw diet with a free run of a super high quality kibble always available for a snack. No grain, especially no corn. They lived long healthy lives always getting comments from the vet on their superb condition. Your advice is right on. Transitioning can be difficult unless starting at a young age. The younger the better.

@jazzkardasz8576 Cats are obligant carnivores. Corn is a new world grain. Cats are old world creatures. Corn is high in carbohydrates and sugar, which cats don't need as much as they need animal protein. Corn contains phytic acid, which can prevent the absorption of minerals like iron and zinc. Corn is also high in cellulose, an insoluble fiber that the body can't digest. Eating too much corn can lead to obesity and contribute to diabetes over time. Corn is known to trigger most cases of allergic reactions in cats. Corn isn't nutritionally balanced for cats. That's a few reasons.

I’m trying to get my 2 cats on a raw food diet. My one year old is doing pretty well. My 9 year old cat is a few steps behind, but she’s getting there with tiny baby steps 😅 My 16 year old dog had zero issues switching, she’s getting around so much better now

I freeze their raw meat and ive been adding a chichken paste to my cats food bowls, so she can get used to here food being wet but crumbly, and then slowly adding soft food and very tiny peaces of raw meat

@@hammypie depends on your cat, some like it elevated and some like it more flat. Teemo likes elevated and Arya likes flat. Getting a stainless steel or ceramic/porcelain bowl will reduce the chance of feline acne, as they are less likely to breed bacteria. Hope that helps!

@The Cat Butler, my cat is soooooo finicky, I want to get him away from kibble knowing how bad it is but he refuses to eat anything besides Kibble and the Inaba Churu lick-able treats, I know it’s deadly for a cat to go more than 3. Days without food, I give in because he won’t eat no matter how hungry he gets…. I’ve watched you and other experts but nothing works, my Porter is a 12lb cat but he’s normal weight, I’m afraid of him loosing weight, I’d Really love to get him on a raw diet, I know it’s best for him…. Actually humans are the only animals that eat cooked and processed food. This is way more healthier and natural. You don’t need studies and google searches to realize that.

This is a debate was settled long ago and only revived by people who are ignorant of the facts, or make money from the other cat foods. Freezing the raw meat for 3 weeks takes care of parasites.

I have the opposite problem, my kitten would not eat any thing other than a particular brand of raw food, if he ever have to stay in the hospital over 24 hours, he might starve. When I weaned him off I hand fed him, I tried both can food and raw, he end up only eating raw.

Thank you, I already have two cats that eat raw, but the other one eats comercial, and when u say commercial food is addicting, that's not a joke, He would still eat the raw food but in the middle of the night he would meow and tare the house apart looking for his commercial food even after he ate his raw food. Commercial food is ADDICTING! and watching my cat go around the house like a crackhead looking for his fix made me so mad that companies do that. Nobody will love your pet like you will. No company, no vet, be careful out there guys,

I don’t make my own my my girl has been on pre-made since she was 12 weeks old she has never had dry food or treats but I also give her some raw meat to eat as well which she loves. Can ragdolls get overweight on a raw diet I’m not sure if my girl is a little podgy or if that’s the way she should be for her age . Hey so I think with any food for humans and cats if you eat too much you can get overweight, but from my own personal experience with my two cats raw food has been harder to gain weight. Well I would think too that a raw diet is healthier but she is only 13.5 months so hopefully her weight will stay more stable now, they are such lazy cats so that doesn’t help either with not enough exercises she has had mad zoomies in the morning but apart from that she is really chilled out .

Yeah, first time with our future Birmans getting the girls in 3 weeks, they have been eating dry food from "Select Gold, mother and kitten for up to 4mo." - now I have to slowly intro. them to other food esp. wet food (not raw as I said, in Switzerland meat is extremely expensive for humans already)... I know they have sensitive stomach tho. I am a little anxious - by the way, Birmans are also ancestors of ragdolls 🙂 QUESTION: how long does it take to switch from dry to wet food for your pair? I think its best to prob feed them one consistent if you can. I know the the dry and wet are more addictive and as a result the cat may not eat the raw. Hope that helps!

Hey congratulations on your new Ragdoll kittens! How long is your work shift? Adult cats can have 12 hours between meals. Would be preferable if it’s full raw since kibble is so addictive and they may not eat the raw and just eat the kibble.

Taurine is in most meat and there is a lot of taurine in heart so you don’t need to add it. Hope that helps!

So far all my adults cats I have adopted automatically transitioned on their own right away to raw diet. My cats refuse to eat kibble. They will however eat wet food.

You have to be careful with cat diets there are many nutrients they need that's are in cat food Please be safe. Without these nutrients they can get very sick. Taurine is one of these nutrients. ❤❤

@@mistytaiga3599 Hey so dental treats aren't an effective alternative to brushing a cat's teeth unfortunately. I personally think its a marketing gimmick. If it was effective humans would have a similar product as well. Also, from speaking to vets they haven't seen it be super effective. From my own experience I have brushed Teemo and Arya's teeth everyday since I had them and the vets are super impressed with how clean their teeth are. Hope that helps!
