Excellent video Jess❤ I feed my feral cat family whole prey whenever I can afford it (I have 5 cats) but something that many cat peeps forget about, is cats also hunt and eat insects, many of which are high in taurine like crickets so this may be a way to help balance out your cat's whole prey diet. Also if one lives in a rural area on a large property, it's also possible to trap wild mice/rats/gophers as they're going to be much more nutritious than anyone who's been farmed. I've had the opportunity recently to trap a lot of wild mice that had exploded onto the ranch. I froze them immediately after catching and took them home to my cats. I have to say, the wild mice won the taste test for sure. They were also tougher so the cats had to work a little harder on them 😊 ....just thought I'd share. I love your videos , please keep them coming ❤❤❤

Thank you for your kind words!! ♥️ Yes of course prey in their natural environment will have a different nutrient profile. It's great that you have access! And can freeze them right away. Those prey have stronger muscles!

For awhile my cat lived outside, ate barn mice. Had worms constantly. Writhing rice-size worms falling from his butt, sliding down his leg fur to the floor.

Those sound like tape worms

Yep. Tapeworms from swallowing fleas.

I went to the Reptile Factory, near my house. Lots of good stuff there. I bought two, day old quail. This weekend I will see if Colbie and Panda will eat them. Stupid question, should I remove the feathers before feeding? Happy Purrsday!

For me my top 3 cons that will probably always prevent me from feeding whole prey is the welfare issues of the feeder animals that are often kept and bred with a significantly lower welfare focus than animals used for humans, the cost of it is dramatically more expensive I’m feeding him on less than a dollar a day in Cali(impressive if you know Cali prices), and it would make traveling with him or boarding him difficult. Im also grossed out by whole prey but I doubt that would stop me since meat grosses me out and I still make his food. I think if I wasn’t surrounded by farms and really great natural pet food stores I wouldn’t be so content with continuing with my homemade diet. Plus if I need to move it’s easy to pack some food in my carry on and fly without much difficulty. I don’t know if I can fly without multiple whole carcasses in my bags.

I agree homemade food made with local, fresh ingredients is excellent!

I personally feed a mix of raw whole prey and DIY raw homemade just like you for both my dogs and cats. However, I completely understand why majority of people would feel uncomfortable feeding whole prey. As someone who also owns prey pets like bunnies and Guinea pigs and birds, I was honestly very hesitant. Raw Whole prey is indeed more natural and ideal but it isn’t needed or necessary to provide cats or dogs a complete & balanced specie appropriate diet. In my personal opinion, feeding raw whole prey is more of a want or preference and not necessarily a need for the cat’s or dog’s optimal nutrition requirements. 😊

Yes premade raw, homemade, whole prey - as individual diets or a combination diet are all great options!

Happy Sardine Sunday! Another informative video by The Voice! Domestic cats share 95.6% of their DNA with the Siberian Tiger. So eating “hoofed” animals (beef) is certainly appropriate. Siberian Tigers will eat: elk, deer, wild boar, lynx and bear. They will also eat fish, rabbits and small rodents. Who knew that feeding a cat would turn into an adventure! I hope to visit the reptile shop near me, this week. Shalom!

oooo let me know how the reptile shop goes! Perhaps there may be an expo event nearby too? I have seen that some breeding facilities offer pickup at local events.

@@jesscaticles Thank you for the suggestion. I just missed the show in Anaheim, across from Disneyland. There is another show in Costa Mesa in November. (I don't know how familiar you are with Southern California cities?) I will try to find out more. Happy Manic Monday!

What supplements do you then provide with the whole prey meals? And how do I know how much to feed my cat daily with whole prey as well as the supplements?
