Thanks Jackson, for another great video. I have for balls of furry love. 2 are older, and not too interested in play. My 2 grey kittens ( sisters 15 mo. and 9 mo. ) ........Kitten, and Claire Kitten, love to play and chase the little rubber balls, that have the bell inside you can see. Yes, I too am guilty of not playing with them as much as I should. Thank you for always reminding us to play with our babies! Thank you also for the warning about the sheer numbers of bad cat toys out there. Thank you for being there for all the cat parents out there. You are much appreciated Mr. Galaxy.

We used to have a big friendly white turkey, and I saved all the feathers he shed. I used those to make my own "feline flyer" toys by attaching two feathers back to back so the feathers spin as they move through the air. It looks like a wounded bird to my cats! They always destroy the feathers, but I've got more. My tuxedo kitty needs bigger, tougher toys, so I made him a sock monkey for a bite and kick toy. It's shredded, so I need to make another soon!

My cat isn't into wands. She doesn't know how to play with them. She really mostly likes going into a cat tunnel halfway, then i throw a ball in front of the exit of the tunnel, and she shoots out like a cannonball after the ball. She's not even so much into the hitting of the ball, she just wants to exit the tunnel after i throw the ball. That's the fun part for her. Also she likes to dig in my sock drawer.

I have one that isn't super into wands either. He will mess with a ribbon toy a bit more, but jump around like an acrobat? Almost never. He'll bat at feather attachments, but he's never done much more than that and certainly doesn't chase them around.

I adopted a cat and she's terrified of wands. She's scared of just about everything. Not sure if she is going to work out. She is not friendly as the foster caregiver described. She won't have anything to do with my first cat, and I got her to be his friend. She just hisses and swats him. Doesn't play. Doesn't move. She just lays in her bed in the base camp room I set up for her. She's overweight too, and I'm feeding her less because she is so sedentary. She is not mean to me, but she is very shy and scared of everything and hides when I open her door. Then she comes out when I put her food down. She lets me pet her but she is the most timid, difficult cat I've dealt with.

My cat wants nothing to do with wand toys. Ive bought her several and the only way she will play with them is if I unattached the toy so she can throw it around. The only interactive game she likes to play is chase/hide and seek. She likes it when I pretend to chase her then she hides and when I get close I will yell out wheres my kiki (kitty) then she will meow and take off running with the zoomies and do it all over. 😂😂❤

@catherinelw9365 I hope you didn't give up on her. "She's shy and scared" EXACTLY. Hopefully, you didn't send her away, again. She just needs time to learn to trust and decompress. The 333 rule. She let's you brush her, she'll get there in time with patience and love. You standard, she's timid and difficult. Can't be both. One canceles the other. Use a wand low and slow on the floor and move it like it's prey. Not shaking it in a shy cats face.

Our tortie elf sphynx plays fetch. We never taught her that, she just started doing it one day. We'll throw her little duck or mouse, and she'll run and grab it and bring it back. She might play with it for a second, but then she just looks at us like, "Ok, throw it again!" That being said, the laser pointer is her hands down favorite toy. She gets so excited whenever she sees that little red dot, and she doesn't get bored of it either! We adopted our kitty in November. We have tried numerous toys and the only one she will consistently play with is the one where a wand moves underneath a covering. She will sit on the cover when she wants us to turn it on. She runs away from any wand toy (we have some suspicion that someone may not have been nice to her in the past 😢). She will play with a kicker or a crinkle ball now and then. And she's only 4 years old! We'll keep trying. BTW, she is also the pickiest eater. We have tried about 20 different brands, trying to get her to eat healthier foods, and the only one she will always eat is Fancy Feast. Chicken. Period.

One of the best cat toys I ever got was laundry line. I just tied some knots into one end to both be grab points for my cat and make some uneven movement and presto! snake-like cat toy I could pull across the room. Now I’ve made a stick with some old duster fluff tied to the end of some sewing thread. The light duster fluff attracts attention and gets caught in the wind making it a great bug-like toy. Almost nothing I’ve ever bought has been as good as these self-made toys.

Feather duster wand toys with feathers on the end are great for under a blanket/pillow wiggle plays! My cats love it! They will dive into a blanket and dig to try and get it! You can’t do that as well with fishing rod toys. They are also good for shy cats or newly adopted cats afraid of fishing rods. (Like my cat- lower to the ground was less intimidating at first) they definitely have their use apart from casting Casper spells 😂 I usually mix the more cardio intensive fishing toys with the under blanket catch the feather 🪶 when they look a bit pooped out but their eyes say we need more play!

The things you say about the industry failure is so true. 99% of the toys in the local pet stores are for dogs and those few cat toys I found are made to catch humans more than cats attention. This is why I have to buy toys for my cats on internet. Also 99% of the wands with a bundle of feathers as toy tend to twist the string when you wiggle them in the air. Actually I buy feather wands on the Zooplus site. They sell a super long stick and string. I modify them with an anti-twist fishing rig so that the feathers can spin freely. It improves the functionality of the toy as the strings do not twist and the feathers make a nice flying bird sound.

Forget Patrick: March 17 is also St Gertrude’s Day, commemorating the patron saint of cats. Old Gerty was known around the convent for her love of cats and her ability to pray away the mice, so I think we could all afford to say a little prayer to her once in a while: St. Gertrude of Nivelles, ask you I pray Safeguard my kitties this and each day. Defend them from those who might wish them harm. Keep them at home safe from danger and storm. Instill in me wisdom to care for them well. Pray, fill me with strength never to yell. And Gertrude, a last thing I beseech from thee, Protect my sofa from claws and my carpets from pee and barf. Amen.

I was with you for most of those toys , blegh. Something that also gets overlooked is the appropriate size for "Prey" toys. I have found a lot are too big and intimidating for my cat (She looks just like Casper without the white socks) She likes things that are the size of small song birds or mice ,which shouldn't come as a shock to anyone since she's a domestic cat not a lynx. But so many attachments are 3-4 times too big for some reason. Thankfully the latest pack came with a mouse sized mouse and some small bird sized feather attachments..yay. Her favorites though are the (cheap as chips) little fluffy worms and a rainbow striped foam ball , she will bat that thing under furniture with startling accuracy and obvious intent. She seems to think part of a play session should involve me having to lay down and reach under things to retrieve it. She also has a cheap play tunnel that has become her lair, toy ambush spot and thing to beat up.

I've had a lot of success with the Hartz kitty castor. How the toys attach at the end makes it really easy to put other things on, it's a great fishing rod design and the length of the fishing line they use is perfect. The feather attachment doesn't break super easy but as they're feathers they will break, which is a shame because it does move like a bird in the air. Right now I have a crocheted mouse on the end of it and my boys can't get enough

The Uahpet Feather Wand set is actually the best cat toy if you just add a string between the wand and the attachments. For the propeller attachment, if you don't yank it while the cat has a hold on it, it should last a few weeks; you don't need all feathers perfectly intact to entice a cat. Most of my cats' favorite toys are DIY modified cat toys. No commercial cat toy is perfect. Jackson Galaxy's wand is too heavy and tires the user out more than the cat (if you have a high energy cat who wants to dash around large areas).

Thanks for the advice. I always get my cat the same toy he always loves, which is the bird feathers on a stick and they last for a whole two years. But now I know some of the toys I haven't purchased are ones I should avoid. Thank god I haven't even purchased the ones you told me to avoid. Always be careful what you buy your pets. I don't always trust things I see on advertisements. I hope you find some really great stuff for Casper because he deserves it. What a sweet cat you have.

My cats all love the little wicker balls I bought on a whim. They skitter across the floor when thrown in a very pleasing chaseable way; they are light enough for cats to easily bat about; their wicker structure means my cats can easily grab hold of them with their claws if they want; they are really cheap and easily replaceable; and the best thing ever is when I throw one up the stairs, and my cats chase it and grab it and kill it and watch it bounce down the steps. I have carpeted stairs, so my cats can grab onto that so they are safe no matter how they fling themselves about. They are often sold as parrot toys but honestly, buy some and if your cats are at all playful they will love them.

Actually, my guy’s fav (or one of them) is that Frisco Bird with Feathers. He grabs the bird and runs up the stairs with it, hoping I’ll chase him (which I often do), then drags it across the bed. I grab it from there, run, back down the stairs, etc. Loads o’ fun! But then he is a Siamese. He’s so smart, he actually *invents* games for us. No joke! I need to make a video of some of my favorites.

The best cat toy I've found over the decades is an 8' long very soft rope about 3/8" diameter. Knot in each end, and melted so it doesn't fray. Great fun to walk around the house pulling the rope, always a couple cats following. Just leave it on the floor in the morning and it will be somewhere else in the house when I return from work so someone also plays with it on their own. Too big to swallow.

I would have needed this video some days ago, I struggled to find a toy that my new cat liked. I bought a box with a lot of different wand toys and I did find one perfect that my cat looooves and it something you been showing in your videos before a stick with feathers. Can finally activate my cat and play, just will always look up for if the feathers breaks but so far it is perfect. I am worried that she will eventually get bored of it so I will try to find other toys that works so I can be a bit different everyday

I picked up your wand toy, but both of my fuzzballs don't really care for it. It could be that I'm not playing with it correctly, but they just don't seem interested in it in the slightest. The cat dancer has been a favorite for sure. They LOVE the handle version the best, but getting a replacement one costs almost 10 dollars, which is absolute highway robbery at that point. I have tried those helicopter ones and it's a huge hit with one of my cats! She loves to grab hold of the piece at the end and then she drags it off into another room, wand and all. My other cat is notoriously "bad at playing," a.k.a. we haven't found the right toy for him yet, I guess. So far we think he's most interested in wiggly things (like the cat charmer), but it's not enough to wear him out.

My cat hates cat toys because they are noisy, predictable etc. She loves strings, laces, and lasers. As someone who works 12 hours a day I rely on my kids to play with our cat everyday but they lose interest quickly when they see she isn’t interested. It’s hard to find something that she can play with independently 😅…

We have several different alternatives. Sometimes I give them the ones that don't need me. It's the only way I can get anything done. So I say, do you want to hunt? And they run to "their room" and chase the Lazer remote thing. But we also have ones we are involved with they have 2 favorite toys on the wand. And the one fishing pole, our big boy LOVES that one!!! We have a gun thing that shoots fuzzy soft balls. They all go nuts when they see that come out. We shoot a few they chase them and inevitably they end up under something. So we stop, the rest, then we go on a hunt to get them out, they chase them again. Then when they're done we put it all away. This is a several hour play time typically on our weekend off. ❤. They also have catnip toys of course they play with when we are at work. Those , as we have 6 cats they torture during the the day. Then I put them away when we're home. Some people think we're nuts

Yrs ago I made a rubber band ball around a bell I took off a collar. I wrapped the rubber band ball in many layers of chenille fun fur yarn & knotted it at the end with a few inches of a single strand dangling from it. Essentially a ball on a string. Incredibly sturdy, it bounces due to the rubber band ball on the inside yet its padded by the yarn so its not a hard ball. It's still in perfect condition, zero hazards & its supervised play but honestly he's not going to choke on anything bcuz the string part isn't long enough & the way its secured on the ball means it never unravels. Definitely my best homemade toy as far as durability & safety. My sock kicker is nice too but he doesn't seem to care that much about it even tho it's loaded with high quality catnip.
@maureencarroll43288 ай бұрын
That 1 cat toy you had that you put together in 2 pieces with the little furry worm guys on the end is 1 of my cat's favorite toys. The wand is frustrating though because it breaks apart but other than that the cats love it. I do also have to be careful about the worms slowly coming apart but when it starts to fall into pieces we just put a new one on.

I make some toys for my cats... one of their favorites is a little plushie mouse that I attached a string to, so it kinda works like a wand, I just end up having to swing my arms aroud a little more lol I also cut a strip of soft fabric and attached a string to it, then I make it move sort of like a snake would. They go crazy for it. But they're still only 7 months old, so they like to play with anything. Their mom is a bit more picky and she gets bored of toys somewhat easily.

I'm an Amazon Vine reviewer so I review cat toys when I can get them. The biggest problem is my very active 20lb cat bites through every string imaginable. One of the wand toys he loves is the one with the built-in laser you tested. He bit through the string but it has hooks on both ends so it's replaceable and comes with a second string with hooks. That seems to be of some value. He loves the Tamer "Crazy Caterpillar" wand but he eventually shreds the toy and bites through the string. What I finally did was buy a good strong slightly elastic thick black string and attach it to a wand. He loves the string even without a toy attached. He eventually bites it through but I replace it. I don't like the fact that he bites through every string. I found one with blue plastic (he loves to chew through USB cables as well). There's only a loop. No wand or toy. He loves it. He'll chew on it when he catches it but has never been able to bite through it. Alas, I've never found a wand toy that he couldn't destroy within a few days.

My cats and my friends cats all LOVE this wand attachment with feathers. The brand is "I.♥C.A.T.S." and the feline flyer attachment. I love the look of the new wand you showed from your store. However, the feathers seem lacking compared what I like to get. I find myself strangely particular (not every pack is good enough) to these ones due to their two large feathers. They are fake, but have a double re-enforced structure that makes it much harder to break in two. With two good feathers, when I pull it through the air, it will naturally spin around and really makes for a convincing bird. Also, when playing with a flying toy don't always have it fly around. Have it fly around and then land where the cat doesn't have line of sight of it... that's when they want to play/pounce on it. Not so much while mid-air.

This is why when I get cat toys, is at cat shows. Made by people that have cats, that actually are tested on their own cats. I have 2 maine coons and 2 Norwegian first cats that are very rough with their toys. So I do have to make sure they don't break and don't get "killed" right away.

This was amusing. I bought one of the wands with the chenille worms, a pink fish with ribbons, a couple of bird things with colored feathers. The colored feathers were well received, but he kept running off and hiding with it trying to eat them. I wasn't sure about the toxicity of the dyes and deep sixed the bird things. BUT I used some natural feathers together and he is intrigued by the fluttering, gets bored and the crinkle ball gets re-attached.The chenille worms were even worse. He found one (got into the drawer, I guess) and ate it! I found blue fibers in the catbox. BUT - the wand itself is excellent and I've attached a crinkle ball to the end. He LOVES this. He also chewed the blue foam handle off the wand but we still romp with the crinkle ball version. I've also attached a pingpong ball to the cord but he wasn't as excited about that. He doesn't like the wire with the cardboard rolls on it (cat dancer) very much, but I set it up in his room/apartment/cage and will bat at it occasionally. He gets at least 40 minutes a day of active play unless he's in detention. He gets put in detention because he has IBS (Churru's would trigger it, starch and fiber) so he gets raw beef (steak, mostly and liver) and kaolin powder, shrimp and lamb with kaolin powder. He likes nutritional yeast with melted butter and is allowed to lick the plates/bowls after I eat eggs (another IBS trigger to feed him eggs). Vet can't find anything wrong with him or his stools. BUT detention happens when he doesn't bother to go a few feet to use the box and leaves it on my carpet instead. Goes into detention until he demonstrates that he can use the box because I not only hate crawling around on the rugs scrubbing his shit up, I hate stepping in it. He seems to be learning. I let him out and play with him, but he sleeps there when he's being detained. We both hate this, he likes my bed. I like his company. He goes everywhere with me and has a box in the car so when I set him loose in the car he has an option. Drainage is all the box gets used for.

My female cat likes aerial toy. Her favorite toy is the wand with the little catnip filled felt fish attached. When she catches it she walks off with it in her mouth and talks about her catch. 😅 Often she'll then bring it back to me as a gift and drop it at my feet, still talking away softly. Also, this is about the only time she is vocal. She also loves cat tv! I wish her brother was as easily entertained. There's very few toys that interest him, and rarely anything airborne. It's such a challenge to play with him.

Hi Jackson, I would love your opinion on my current cat introduction situation: 10 month old female named Chai and 8 month old male named Bambi. Chai is my cat since August, and I decided she could benefit from a friend so 6 days ago we got Bambi. Immediately we put Bambi in the bathroom and kept him separate most of the time. Since then they've smelled each other, done scent swaps, room swaps, and have had visual moments through a cracked door or baby gate etc. As well, we have 2 pheromone diffusers. Each listed event has led to either or both cats hissing, growling or a swat or two. Also their food bowls are near the door to the bathroom. That's the backstory, and I fully expect some adversity for the new cats and new situation but I would love clarity on one thing. When should I allow them the chance to "work it out" with no barriers? I'm terrified of the physical or emotional trauma which could result, so I want to remain patient but, Bambi really wants out of the bathroom and I want him out too! Please help!

Honestly my cats' favorite toy is those little plastic springs, and I know it's not the type of interaction Jackson is talking about here but we absolutely play fetch. They will chase it, pick it up in their mouth, then bring it to me to throw again. Idk, it's kind of the perfect size/weight to skitter like a bug, and they love it when I twang the spring and wave it around a bit before throwing it. It's extremely adorable, with the downside that I do sometimes wake up with cat toys on my bed. Oh, and their second favorite toy is a simple wormy wand that I use to poke the springs out from under the fridge, lol
@sparkyUSA19768 ай бұрын
Mine loves the springs too. They're kind of interactive, I make them move and she goes after them. She hasn't yet grasped the idea of picking things up with her mouth to manipulate her world a little better. Or just moving things out of the way with her paws, but she's young yet and formerly feral, so I'll give her time. She just recently started sometimes batting a crinkle ball back at me a few times giving me a cute look after like "that was fun you darling little human, I hope you liked me entertaining you, but I'm bored now."
@chrisfitzgerald81248 ай бұрын
I agree the spring can be interactive if you make it a fetch game ditto the little plastic curlies that look like a milk jug lid. But you have to teach them the game and play it consistently
