I have taught this kitty to sit, shake, sit up, drop, use a harness, and get in travel crate for treats and rest. We play 'Sock Hockey' with two cardboard boxes and a rolled pair of socks I use a giant dog crate with a litter box inside so she won't run out the door when I go outside. Never alone for more than 2.5 hours. When business picks up (Dog Trainer) she may be alone longer. Other ideas for not running outside? This is Coyote-ville, can't take a chance. Don't even walk her inside apartment building.

My cat Lucy became blind late in life. She was 21. I placed her litter box a couple of feet from the sliding door, and her food and water a couple of feet on the opposite side of the door, so she could still smell and hear what was going on outside. I also created a kind of cat flume out of rolled up blankets so she could navigate to the bedroom at night, and a sort of staircase made of plastic bins and cushions so she could climb in and out of the bed. I have 3 hummingbird feeders right outside my bedroom sliding glass door, which has a screen door so I can leave the glass door open when the weather is nice. I live at 4000 ft above sea level on the North facing side of a mountain in SoCal, so it's usually nice here. My son's cat hates my cat, who is a playful doofus who tries too hard to play with his cat, but she ain't having any of his nonsense. She's a serious mature cat, and he's going to be a goofball clown his whole life (I hope). For now, I have to keep them seperated to avoid fur flying. He watches the hummingbirds through the screen door, while she watches them from her window, which is at a right angle from his vantage point. I see them looking at each other often while they share the experience of watching those little buzzy birds zooming around. I'm hoping that in time they will bond over their shared enjoyment of watching birds.

I had three cats and a new puppy. The puppy loved the cats but the cats wanted time to themselves. So I had a double window looking out into the backyard. My husband made and placed a catio out a side window - just a wire box/cage that he bolted in to the side (so somebody couldn’t remove the cage and climb in). Added a piece of thicker plastic to serve as a floor. Then, he cut a flexible rubber mat to size and attached it on the outside of the window to serve as a cat-flap over the opened window for kitty to climb thru to access the catio. Huge hit and cost was maybe $30.

I noticed that the letters NSW are incorporated in the ornate design so I searched online to discover that this shelf is an old luggage rack from a defunct railroad, but most likely it's a more modern reproduction. "NSW" stands for "New South Wales", a state in Australia. It's a sturdy shelf, especially mounted with Molly bolts. I made a tufted red velvet cushion for it so now it's a cat magnet! I swear, our little black glam-kitty loves it because she knows she looks like a royal princess lounging on her red velvet.

I feed 2 stray kitties too and he absolutely loves it when they come. In fact, one of them hangs out with my cat through the living room window. The one that does let's me put flea stuff on her and everything, so she's basically my outdoor cat. 😂💗

When I was building my house, I put curved window grills for my cats to sit on. Every time I see them sitting or sleeping on the windows, I know that those curved window grills are one of the best choices I made. My next project will be shelves.

Frugal cat lady here. We couldn't afford to buy a cat window seat so we took the small cat condo that kitty never used, and put it in the bathroom window on top of a couple of boxes. We did this to make it flush with the window ledge. The bathroom window gets morning light and we noticed one day that kitty was sitting on toilet seat lid when sun was shining on it. Anyway, cat is a senior and has trouble jumping so we put cat stairs going up to the condo at window to make it easy for her and now she waits for us to open blinds in the A.M. so she can watch all the goings on in the parking lot below. Oh and we have to open the window as well or she's not happy.( don't worry, there is a screen).

I adopted my cat when she was 5 1/2yrs old! I adopted her because my friend had severe mobility issues and couldn’t give her the care she needed. Her husband hated looking after her basic daily needs. So after all my cats passing (I had a Mojo and Paris too!) I was only too happy to take her. It’s taken us nearly a year. I used to get bitten and scratched. But she’s a much happier girl now. Has her cat tree next to the couch which are both at the window! She definitely feels at home now, because she is! I think we love each other!🐈⬛

This is great. Moving into a bigger flat soon and want to catify it for my little lad. It already has a big bay window for him, but definitely want some cat shelves. I have an outside door that I'm not going to use, so I'm going to make it connect to a catio.

My dad's a carpenter so I bought some wooden planks and the end piece of a carpet roll (so it was 50% off) and I designed and built a cat tree right in front of 2 out of 3 balcony doors in my apartment. The cats absolutely love it and looks really cool 😽

Love it! One thing I've never heard you mention that my cats love is opening or at least cracking the window, Since cats process the world so much through smell, they absolutely love to sniff the outdoor air, at least as much as they love looking outside. In good weather, we open the windows (with screens of course) and even when it's too cold or too hot, I'll crack it for them once in a while.

my cat loves to just sit in the open window and sniff the air...he closes his eyes and tilts his head up a bit and you can just see the "ahhhhhhh" on his little face. It's so sweet.

I've had to bolt chicken wire over my screens because of one of my cats. He would do his "KoolAid Man" impression otherwise! He's a big kitty who loves to sneak outside and kill lizards and snakes, and he easily busts right through window screen. It was his love of reptiles that caused his former owners to rehome him. They were in the living room one evening, watching a movie when his happy butt came trotting through his cat door, dragging a big snake. A big snake that was still alive... a big snake that was a venomous rattler!🐍 I'd already fallen in love with this cat so I immediately offered to take him to my house. I don't let him outside unless I'm supervising. I don't want ANY snakes in my house, but I love how he keeps our house free of rodents.

I'm so happy to see this for other viewers vi did my window for no money. My two cats are happy. Mosquito netting and 100%supervision cost me almost nothing to get my boys some outdoor time too but I live where it I'd quiet and we dont see other animals. If they try to make a run for it they get caught in the mosquito net and its cat mama to the rescue . They have learned as need their boundary now and we chill happily together. ( it's a tiny porch) people...be creative.

I only have two windows on my apartment that face North. Same view. However, I did put up a cat tree next to it, a chest is high enough for her to sit on with a pillow to see out the window. I put up a bird feeder on the outside window. A lot of birds come, my Fijjle Wijjle loves it. It's her favorite spot. It's also a pathway so she gets to watch the people coming and going...

We built a Catio this summer. It’s big enough we can go in with them, and also they can really stretch their legs outside. It’s made of 90% used building materials that we already had (they’re cats - they don’t care if it’s new!). It took 3 weeks and I was afraid they wouldn’t use it. But they freaking love it, and it’s super fulfilling to see them enjoy it. We have 6 cats, and even though we have a pretty large house, that extra space just gives everyone a space to decompress and make their own.

Your channel is amazing and helped me connect with my cat! She's always been aloof, and I thought it was just her being a cat, but I was the problem. I was too loud, too quick, too 'smelly.' I adjusted (stopped speaking so loudly on the phone or going into a different room so I don't disturb her if I was getting louder, stopped running around when I was late for work, stopped wearing perfume at home). She jumped in my lap and demanded pats for the first time ever this morning and I almost died. Thank you so much!

Thanks for including some mobility/capability aids. When we moved six months ago, we placed the cat stuff with their 12 years of wisdom in mind. This time I placed their 4-foot tall cat tower (always been at a window in my bedroom) next to a nightstand. The floors here are all hardwood, so now the cats can descend to the nightstand before jumping down to the floor. (Sometimes they do.) There is a low bench next to the low picture window, and it's a favorite spot for watching the outdoor channel. The cats still jump up and down more than 4-foot intervals by choice daily, but we made sure there are comfy spots that don't require it.

My Jasper was a feral until he was almost 2 years old, I actually found him behind a pet store in the country in Western NY, I fed him, met with him and gained his trust over a 2 month period of time before I brought him into my home. I was always taught in martial arts that if you are suffering then help an animal or a person it helps your mental strength and it helps the other entity, it's a win win. Well Jasper has been nothing but a win win, he now lives in my home and on summer days we both go outside and bird watch, he never leaves my side except when he hunts. It's going to be a sad period when my buddy has to give up the ghost for both of us.

This episode spoke to me, Jackson! I bought my first house 2 years ago and moved in with my 2 cats thinking about all the ways I would catify the house and the catio I would build etc etc... but here I am 2 years in and still paralyzed with the reality and finances of homeownership and all my ideas for a catio and cat highways have kind of fallen to the wayside because of all the other repairs and maintenance and random disasters that come first. not that it's impossible or that I can't afford it... but the decisions and where to start and committing of a budget to the catification has become a bit paralyzing. I need to refocus and just start! I have the windows and a few cat trees, I just need to start developing and connecting the superhighway a bit more with some shelving!

Thank you Jackson for all that you do. If every cat guardian watches your videos, and takes your advise, there would be a lot more happy kitties out there. I found a stray kitten under my car last Monday in rough shape. He was starving, infested with fleas, and worms. One week later he is doing so much better and I want you to know your videos helped so much. I have three Pomeranian dogs so I was not a cat person but I can say I am getting there with your help. Merlin is only 9 weeks old now and you gave us the confidence to be a great cat owner.

I used 6 concrete blocks covered with a piece of fleece & is perfect for cat TV. I stacked them 3 blocks high, 2 across. I also covered the top ,blocks with non slip shelf liner to help keep the fleece in place during zoomies. (I was surprised the fabric would slip during use since the surface of the blocks is so rough.) I had some standard bricks I thought about using but I think it would be wise to secure them, maybe using a bungee cord or tape. The fleece completely covers the block "tower". I tried using a towel for a bit more padding, but it didn't seem like they had a preference. I had an old silicone yoga mat I planned to use. But when i traded cars, the back seat fabric was slick & my dogs couldn't stand up. Stores like JoAnn or WalMart almost always have some kind of fleece on sale & any hardware store has the blocks & often a friend will have 1 or 2 in the garage & are happy to recycle them in your direction.

Our little miss looooooves the windows. During winter she sits on a little pad/pillow, but during summer she won’t. We have about a gazillion sparrows living in our neighbourhood and she gets so excited watching them. We recently moved and now have a lot of large windows and really noticed a change in her behaviour as she’s so entertained with them. We made all of them escape-proof and she loves sitting in the sunny breeze of the open windows. In spring we’ll start working to make our garden more cat, bird and insect friendly so she has even more to see, but will also be able to explore the outdoors a bit more (harnessed). We already have a lot of incidental short kitty highways, but I’m definitely going to look into connecting those together

I built a cat tree out of 4 inch PVC pipe, and computer cases (I'm a computer technician, so I wind up with lots of steel and aluminum cases to start from). 4 years in, I need to reinforce it a bit, but my cat loves it, it's 6 feet tall, and he sleeps there all night, looking over me. It's at the foot of my bed, so he's literally 6 feet up, and knows where I am at all times.

My cats have two windows they hang out in. I live in a 27' Coleman bumper pull camper. I took the mattress off of the bottom double bunk. I laid down no skid rubber matts. In this cat rooms a window, litter boxes, two cat scraters, one cat tree, toys and a warm cozy faux mink blankie. They're waters in the kitchen and they eat on the dining room table. They sleep with me and my Staffie in a queen bed. And they get plenty of exercise, being rescues from the streets they go out into the yard daily for anywhere from an hour to three hours. They love to batt at the bells hanging on the wind chime over the couch. If I can catafy a camper for two cats anyone can catafy a house.

As reference I have two male cats that are about a month and a half apart in age. They were introduced as kittens. They’re both 2 year olds. My cats always went to the main window (2nd floor condo i wish i could utilize a bird feeder but HOA has me ) but I had one main cat tree that only one cat used and they would rumble for the spot. I had another tree against the wall that was never used, and a hammock by the other window that is always used. My cats always were separated in that way for a window view. But I had the idea to push the two trees together by the main window and both cats are there all of the time. They’re there together right now at 930 at night. They’re utilizing the little den now that one of the holes is closed off, they still play rumble on it but not like before trying to get the top bunk to lay. Now they chase each other back and forth. I’m glad I didn’t just remove the smaller tree from my house just because they never used it. I’m considering doing shelving on the blank wall but haven’t pulled the trigger. Thanks Jackson for your videos, they’re always so nice to watch, wholesome and informative.
