My four-year-old cat died two weeks ago very suddenly from what turned out to be an asthma attack, I got him to vet, they him on oxygen and stable but he was very fragile, he came home 3 days later and had a second attack and within 15 minutes, he had stopped breathing. Heart Breaking. I had him since he was 3 weeks old, he was my best little buddy.

I feel for them. I also just lost my cat Harrison in February, also sudden, also 4 years old, also my first cat. He either had bone marrow cancer or an autoimmune disease where he was killing his red blood cells and it hit hard and fast. It’s the worst thing I have ever been through. I adopted him February 2022 and he passed 10 days before his two year adoption anniversary this year. Glad they were selected for this and wish them nothing but the best ❤

Me too.. I just lost my 3 year old to IMHA/suspected cancer. Blood transfusions and steroids worked just for a month and he went downhill again very sadly. I know their pain and def deserved a catify makeover 🥺❤ my cat passed just before his one year adoption anniversary. I’ve never felt so much pain and grief in my whole life. He was stable on meds but in one night suddenly went down hill- he didn’t eat his dinner and began breathing heavily and I rushed him to emergency clinic. They said they have done everything and just couldn’t help anymore and it doesn’t look good but see how he is in the morning. I took him home. I was with him the whole time and he just got worse- I was going to call the vet in the morning to come and put him to sleep but he passed in my arms at 4am. I was actually physically ill and couldn’t get out of bed for a few days after that. While he was getting treatments and in and out of emergency care I lost a lot of weight too from stress. Therapy helped.. I just adopted two unsocialized 6month old kittens last month from a shelter. They need a lot of love but it’s helping me heal. I think of them as his siblings and he is watching over them protecting them ❤ what I went though was really hard but I wouldn’t change a thing in retrospect. He was vet-checked on adoption but you never really know and I’m glad I didn’t know. I loved him with all my heart-I’m glad we had a very happy short time together ❤ Mr bean is always in my heart. You taught me so much and helped me be strong! Our cats are the best teachers.

I am so sorry for your loss. Such a similar story to what happened to me. I had been bringing Harrison in to the vet for urinary issues, dental issues, concerns about his kidneys (turns out he was born with only one) and they never caught or suspected he could have this autoimmune disease. He was last seen December and passed two months later. He also stopped eating suddenly and just didn’t seem like himself. I took him into the vet and advocated for blood tests and ultrasounds and before I knew it, he was hospitalized for 3 days. Given a blood transfusion, steroids, antibiotics and a feeding tube. He improved on day two but by day three the anemia was back, spiked a fever, vitals weren’t good, stopped eating, was in pain and not reproducing his own red blood cells either. So I had to make the hardest decision of my life and euthanize. Did it with him in my arms at the emergency hospital. I had also just gone through a break up with my boyfriend of 4.5 years, moved out of my home, into a new home and Harrison got sick and passed all within a 4.5 week time span. I have been quite depressed. Luckily I have family and friends and a great therapist for support. I am in the process of adopting another shy cat that has been passed up in foster care for 8 months because he’s shy and not sure about people, just like my Harrison. I too am glad I didn’t know at the time that Harrison had underlying health issues. I was already unsure adopting a cat that was so scared of humans. He really blossomed once we had formed a strong bond and trust. If I had to do it all over again I would in a heartbeat. He was and will always be the love of my life. Thank you for sharing your story with me ❤

The same thing happened to one of my cats when he was 8, the one moment he was licking himself, the next he just made a terrifying cartwheel and collapsed and started moaning. I ran in my payamas towards the vet and felt him pass away in my arms. It was a brain hemmorhage. It was very frightening. And he was such a sweet boy. Since then if one of my cats makes sudden sounds of scratching and making zoomie sounds sometimes I still jump up and have to check if they are actually playing or something bad might be happening. It gives me the jitters still.

I'm very sure the winner uses exclusively they/them, it's even next to their name on Zoom in the first few minutes of the video. But yes, this was great for them and their cats. (Before you argue about how another person feels most comfortable being known and addressed, they/them for singular individuals was commonly used and accepted as early as the late 14th century and records of an individual choosing to go by they/them go back to the 18th century.)

Anai, I’m so glad you won! Your apartment looks amazing and I hope you find the perfect addition to your family. Your story is heartbreaking and very familiar. My husband and I lost our 2 year old baby Ollie a few years ago now, and it happened almost exactly how you described: she was fine all day, snuggling like normal on my husband and then when we went upstairs to bed. She followed us up like normal, and then suddenly she veered toward my open closet but collapsed before she made it inside. We knew she was gone before we even left the house for the emergency vet, but still went even though there was nothing anyone could do. Only hint to what happened is that the vet heard a slight murmur at her previous checkup but it was in the heart of the COVID pandemic when we weren’t allowed inside, so they chalked it up to her being stressed and planned to monitor it going forward…she died less than 6 months later. Then 6 months after that we lost our 12yo cat Humphrey, who had cancer, and then a week later my parents lost their cat Willow to cancer as well. As traumatizing as that entire experience was, losing 3 so close together, we’ve since added 3 to our family (for a total of 5, as Humphrey and Ollie both had siblings we adopted with them). Losing them at any age sucks horribly, but giving kitties a home when they need it is worth however limited the time is we get with them ❤

OMGosh I am crying, laughing a bundle of emotions for them!! Jackson you never fail to amaze me. My first kitty came to me when I was 3 years old. Melissa and I grew up together and lived 21 years with her sweet self going to bed together EVERY NIGHT. Today I am blessed with Patch and Nelly, who needed whom more my son and I still aren't sure😂😂. Their story is one of sadness of being abandoned by people who moved from a home and did not home this brother and sister duo. My niece had her eye on what was happening on her walk to work. Before I knew it I was getting ready for a new family and keeping it a secret from my son. My WHOLE FAMILY spent Christmas Eve with us in our new Apartment waiting for the big surprise. Not only did I bring out the babies but my daughter had gotten her brother a beautiful Beta fish ( Bobbee) We all laughed in tears! Today Patch and Nelly are 5 years old healthy and happy. Thank you for teaching me so much more about kitties as after Melissa I thought what more do I need to know RIGHT? Because of you Jackson I have cleared out their toy box, changed from cat litter to pine pellets ( so much healthier for the whole family) and so many other tips from your knowledge. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I am currently looking for a new cat tree. Do you like the faux fur, carpet, or just bare wood? I don't think I like the faux fur as this is their second one,so hard to clean etc.. My goal is straight up catification. Can't wait to adorn our living room with ideas I have seen from your videos. You definitely chose the right person. This gal did justice to Catification! This all brought back the painful loss of my dearest companion of 20 years, my deaf white kitty Talc. He slept in my arms every night for 20 years. Loosing him was my most critical 💔 loss of my entire life. I have lost both parents whom I was very close to and was caregiver to my dad for 4 years. It's almost unimaginable that the loss of a pet can impact a person to the extent that it can. I cried every day. Just about the time I thought I was through crying, I saw a blanket or something that was his and I burst into tears all over again. I realized to go on I simply had to have a cat in the house. On my next birthday, I visited an animal shelter and came home with my birthday present 🎁 💕 to myself... the best 👌 👍 gift ever... another cat. I still think of and miss my boy terribly, probably every day, but I no longer cry every day. I choose to believe he is waiting at the infamous Rainbow Bridge, and hopefully, I will see him again when I get to Heaven, as well as my precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Meantime I am busy parenting my little sweet pea cat princesses, Eden and Chloe, and I have a 10 year old amazing great neice, Eliza to dote on several days a week. I'd like to say thank you, Jackson, for all you do for the feline community that has been overlooked until you came on the scene. Thanks 🎉❤🎉

I cuddled him to the end telling him how much we loved him as our vet gently let him sleep forever. The shock of losing him so suddenly and we felt so helpless to help him except to allow him peace. I appreciate the ideas. I need to get my boys up on the walls and our of my way so I can get some housekeeping done 😹 You know the cat's idea of housekeeping is to shuffle the mail and let it scatter randomly .... Roll through the laundry, before and after it's been washed and dried ... Chase the broom and mop ... Jump on top of the fridge to show you what to pick for dinner, even if it means jumping into the freezer when you're being dense and aren't picking up on their communications ... And my favorite: jumping onto the counter as you're washing dishes by hand, and stepping right in between your arms to supervise your washing. Of course, you can't see what you're washing, but the cat will let you know when it's clean enough 😹

He was an elderly cat, 17 but I had been taking care of him for just 3 years, as a rescue and my first ever cat. Now my family has adopted another as we loved having a cat around, but I still think of him and tear up. So to focus on improving the life of that cats we now have, it helps a little to think that we're using our knowledge and experience we gained from our little friends that have passed on.

I'm sorry to bother you, I don't know if you will ever read this or be able to reply but I don't know where else to ask. I have a few rescue cats, on Saturday we had one to the ER Vet and they diagnosed him with a "infection of unknown origin" basically and gave him 3 meds and a Sub Q fluid injection. By yesterday am he was still not eating, drinking, acting right or moving much so we went back to the ER Vet and they said he was in congestive heart failure and they couldn't help him. He was only 3 yrs old. While we were gone with him both days, my other cats were going crazy looking for him. When he was sick they would lay with him. So, when we got home yesterday with his remains, I brought him inside and let the other cats say goodbye. I just felt like if they saw and smelled him they would know he was gone and not to look for him for days. I've never seen anything like it, but they all stood over him and then calmly walked away and sat in the window watching us bury him. My family says I'm nuts and that wasn't right to let them see him because they don't understand he's gone. I guess my short question here, with alot of rambling (😅), is.... how do you feel about letting housemates( who are also his mother, uncle, brother and sister we took in years ago born to their feral grandma who showed up on our porch), saying goodbye and seeing the remains of their friend? Since yesterday all my cats have calmed down so much and stopped frantically looking for him like they did when he was at the hospital. Did I mess up? Do they understand ? Sorry.. idk if anyone will read this but if anyone has any input, it's much appreciated. I'm still a blubbering mess this am. I still have 5 cats here but it feels so empty and off. 😢 ❤

I'm sorry for your loss. That's tough. I think the current behaviour of your cats shows that you did the right thing. They calmed down after they saw his body and have been calm since. My guess is that they do understand that he's gone. He would have smelled different at the very least. Ignore what your family says and let your cats' actions speak for themselves.

The cats in his colony obviously understand _something_ about the event. Their current behavior shows you that you did the right thing for them. And let's use reason here, simple logic: If, as the humans tell you, it was wrong _because_ "the cats don't understand," then viewing and smelling the remains would have meant absolutely nothing, so it couldn't have been "wrong" (as in "emotionally harmful to the cats").

Last fall our sweet Minnie was 12 when we had to make the decision to let her go to heaven when we woke up to blood all over her face and paws and horrible sounds of struggling to breathe. The vet said it looked like a nasal tumor. One month later we were blessed to have since taken in a brother and sister pair of kittens from outside we were involved in the neighborhood TNR program. Please we're looking forward to a follow up sometime with this precious story.

This story hits hard for me. Ive been crying for three days because my baby has been sick since the 15th of March. We fought so hard to get to pay day so we could get her to the vet. She was not eating on her own. The vet suspects kidney failure, but that's academic at this point. Couldn't afford to do the blood tests to confirm. We brought her home and over the last two days she has gone from stable to being unable to eat, walk, poop, pee. I can't bear to see her struggle and hurt. I promised her that if she got too sick to be happy then I would help her cross the rainbow bridge. She goes to the vet tomorrow and I can't stop crying. Please keep my little Pyrrha in your thoughts.

This is so amazing! So hard to watch the beginning, but so happy with the ending. I lost my baby (7 yrs) last year. He was an absolute cuddle bug. Tried getting him cat trees and such, but he only ever wanted to be where I was. In preparation for my new cat, I declutter my house and turned old furniture into cat towers. Really glad I did because the new cat is sooo energetic and loves climbing. I want to try dying some of my stuff, too. Always great to see happy cats. I hope we get to see an update with them and their cat later.

Our boy loves his cat trees and walkways indoors, but his new favorite game is to kitty parkoure in the very large oak tree in my folk's back yard. We are still amazed to watch him do his acrobatics in that tree. My heavens this story broke my heart. I hope Kibbs lives a long, happy life.

That story about your cat passing away, that was so awful. I am so sorry. At least we knew the root cause for my orange furriness, kidney failure. I can only imagine how it must've felt to just randomly have your cat pass away with no reason as to why.

Yuki s demise sounds very much like my Barney went😢. He was just 3 years old and was diagnosed with thrombosis which paralyzed him instantly. Henever recovered. Later this happened to another one of my cats who was also young and not related to Barney. It s rough seeing a big healthy cat suddenly become paraplegic.

We lost a 4 year old as well. We had adopted him from the shelter and were not made aware that he had a heart murmur. In the end, this was the issue that took him. He got a blood clot in his front leg and while the vet said it could be treated, he would stay in hospital for a few days because of treatment, but because it was due to a murmur it was 100% likely that it would return continually and my daughter and I didn't think that was fair at all to Brody so we made the decision to euthanise him. It was very hard on us both and on our older cat, Cody.

This story touches my heart. Last year I lost my 1 year old cat. She drowned. I will always keep my cats indoors unless I am with them.

My cat went from healthy to passed at home in less than a week. Indoor baby clean house no idea why. She was 5. I very nearly didnt rescue another because my heart was broken. I went to grief therapy and that helped and i have had 2 cats since that i had rescued. Still worry every day about my cat after that happening to me though i know it was a freak accident. BUT i dont think my current kitty knows and we do all we can!

My seemingly healthy Smooth Fox Terrier (Baloo) suddenly fell ill one day, no explanation or anything, he almost died in my arms on the way to the vet to put him down He was 12, the average lifespan for the breed is 14 and our last dog passed last year at almost 16.. We still have no clue what killed him to this day... I miss that dog... That was nearly two decades ago.
