I love how you, a 30 yr. cellist, still break down a piece in practice. I had this assumption that all professional cellists sit down and play any piece, even unknown compositions, perfectly and that's just not the case.❤️

Hey, I'm primarily a low brass player (tuba, euphonium & a bit of trombone), but have started learning bass guitar and have always been interested in learning double bass and cello. I do wonder, however, would it be a bad idea to start out cello with a good electric brand (Yamaha or NS Design) vs a cheap acoustic cello? Similarly, would learning how to bow on a smaller instrument like viola or octave violin (possibly upright in lap?) be a waste of time despite being the less natural bowing angle for beginners?

Thanks! Always good practice tips from you. I'm curious, what amp do you use for your e-cello? I'm in no position to buy one as I just bought my first "real" cello, but curious what gives you a nice sound. (granted the pickup is integral too).

Do you think that a mechanical metronome may be better than an electronic one? I have one quite similar to yours but I gave up trying at some point. I think that setting it different than the time signature becomes very confusing.

Digital is the way to go for learning the rhythms, because you can set it to different note values. Still, the sound of the mechanical metronome is more pleasant to the acoustic cellist.
