This is the best youtube video on pricing items for reselling that I have found. Well Done. I sold some postcards and other items long ago (started in 1999), but have not listed anything for years. Those 517s 42x30 had an 8% STR when I checked. I'm trying to make myself not even look at jeans, no matter the brand, if they're not 32-36. With womens though it's way different. Smaller sizes are always over saturated poor STR and plus size is way better. Last I checked womens 10-16 was the sweet spot.
@TheChaChingKing Жыл бұрын
STR is SO important. But, like those jeans, thrive already sold. I can sell that bigger size so much easier. That said, they shouldn't sell quickly, and mine always do. If I could figure out why, then I'd really be on to something.

@@TheChaChingKing yeah that’s odd 62 available, 5 sold. Could be social media followers helping skew your numbers? I’ve had size 40 Carhartt and Wrangler sit for months. Not the best or worst brands but they do eventually sell though. My store routinely far out performs my items STR many of my items are between 20%-50% STR but my Store is very close to 100%. I see so many people on KZbin claim to be experts but then they’ll have a store with 8000 items and only 1500 sold past 90 days. It’s hard to filter through everything and find the good information.

Great stuff! ☺ One addition, for Canadian sellers is that you have to remember a couple things. One, things up here are generally more expensive to buy new and to buy used. We have a lower population base so we have less "stuff" than in the USA. You will notice how some items are selling for really crazy cheap on eBay compared to what you think it is worth. That is because there is just way more of it available down there so it sells for less. You have to learn what items are worth selling and that will come over time. The second is our shipping and that item you are selling, has to be worth it for a customer to pay that Canadian shipping charge. It can be done. I have shipped to Alaska, California, etc and I live above New York State. The items I sell are harder to find, unique or just worth it. I sell all kinds of vintage items, breakables, home decor, etc. I also keep things within that 12x12x12 inch or 90 cm sized box any 3 dimensions totaled. Which means all the LxWxH has to total 90cm. That keeps the shipping on the lower side. It would have to be worth quite a bit to go to that next level in shipping size, to justify selling. I am not an expert and I don't have access to all those city discount shipping companies and I still do alright. I always have best offer on as well. Sometimes I will start a little higher to see who bites and then I can make great offers that look like great deals to the customers and still be in a profit zone that works for me. I have the patience for it and I don't rely on eBay as a sole income.
@TheChaChingKing Жыл бұрын
Amen to everything you said. I really wish the US and Canada had more seamless shipping options between us. Canadians seem to get the worst deal of anyone who has items shipped to them from the US.
@angelad.8944 Жыл бұрын
On the selling side, I do think that they are really working on it. Recently eBay has been working with Canada Post and I am seeing those shipping rates get better and better. I actually don't buy much in general so I am not sure how the buyers are feeling. @@TheChaChingKing

I would look at sold items in your area. Look at what other people are selling. Then, sort those sold listings by HIGHEST price and see what others in your area are selling that brings in the most money. If you can get your average sale price up, maybe the shipping costs won't hurt as much.

I record me with a camera. A Sony ZV-1. I have a microphone hooked up to that. Then, I record my screen and backup sound with a program called OBS. I have my Blue Yeti hooked up to that. I load the camera and its audio along with the OBS files into an editing program called DaVinci Resolve. I sync all those files together based on the sound files. Then, I usually keep the Blue Yeti audio and get rid of the camera audio. The rest of it is just editing within DaVinci Resolve. I'm not an expert. And, I'm a slow editor because I'm still learning. Editing and trying to answer questions takes me the most time. The biggest impact is that I don't list as much on eBay. But I do enjoy the feeling that I might be helping people. i also go through the same process when pricing , free shipping is just a bad idea in my opinion as your stuck with the return shipping fees. Its much easier to bring the item price down a little to where the final sale price is at on current sold if the goal is to sell faster and charge shipping. There is one more element to the equation that not many are talking about and that is Promoted sales. Promoted may put you higher up the list but if its a fast conversion rate its my opinion there is no need to pay to play. Im still a beginner when it comes to many things and its a huge learning curve. Thank you for verifying im on the right path on this part anyway.. lol.
@TheChaChingKing Жыл бұрын
Right on. I've tried playing with the promotion rate. I've tried it really high...not enough difference to matter at all. I tried turning that off and eBay didn't like that. LOL I've found a little promotion might help, but I'm just as likely to not do it at all.

eBay is trying hard to be what they are not... Amazon. That is why to be a stellar seller you must hit the marks they deem important. eBay has to mimic amazon to compete. Very informative but does the number listed include those that sold? Say the microphone showed 975 listed and 827 sold wouldn’t you add those numbers together to get the real number of how many were listed before the sale to determine the sell through percentage? if the number listed includes those that sold as well then the active listed number would go down too right? This is a bit confusing to me.
@TheChaChingKing8 ай бұрын
The number listed is only those listed at that time. The number sold is only the number sold over the last 60 days. If there were 80 listed and 40 sold, the sell through rate over a 60 day period is about fifty percent. Does that help?

Hello... when calculating sell thru rate... should you be adding the 'total listed' PLUS the 'total sold' to get the 'total starting inventory'... and then divide the total sold by the total starting inventory to arrive at the sell through rate for the last 90 days... Im confused...
@TheChaChingKing Жыл бұрын
You can't really do it like that because the inventory isn't static. So, you don't know when each item was listed. You just divide the number sold by the number listed. Multiply that by 100 to get the percentage. It's just a working number...a starting place for a comparison.

Correct. I wouldn't have any easy way of showing the shipping to Japan. And, if I could, that wouldn't help anyone buying from the UK or Australia or any other country outside of the US. Those sold prices are literally because your in the same country it was sold to. If you change your shipping location then the price will change which means that's not what it actually sold for
@TheChaChingKing10 ай бұрын
Yes, if someone outside of the US bought an item, they would pay much more in shipping costs than someone here in the US.
@gaijindando672610 ай бұрын
I sell from eBay. I find it hard to compete with other sellers because most of them are in America. It's obviously much cheaper to ship an item inside of America rather than from Japan. It's hard to know how to price my item because first it will show the item is $20 and then plus $20 shipping that's because it's recognizing I'm in Japan. Most likely they're selling the item $20 with free shipping inside of America. But what about if it's Canada. If I change my address to Canada then maybe they'll charge $20 plus $10 shipping. I can't just do that for all of my items because the price will change for shipping if the item changed if it's small. I won't know which country is going to purchase my item
@TheChaChingKing10 ай бұрын
I don't think there's any question that there's an advantage if you are shipping from within the US because eBay has a great deal of buyers in the US. You mention Canada. I think Canada gets the worst deal of all. I sell a lot of dust mop pads. In the US, buyers are all in, including shipping, for less than $15. But the same mop pads going just across the border cost about twice as much. AND I STILL SELL THEM THERE. I don't understand it. All of that said, I think that I would absolutely LOVE to go thrifting in Japan some day. Is that even a thing there? Are there things similar to garage sales and thrift stores? What about things like storage lockers and estate sales?
@youaregodspursuit-47 Жыл бұрын
Not... there are couple of problems with this method... 1. eBay does no longer provides a list with only the items you searched. The list you scrolled quickly through has other models of Levis with and without the orange tag. That taints the comparisons. 2. Often when you get your resulting numbers there is not an exact match of the numbers shown at the top of the page ... for total actually listed for sales it often off by 8-12 points 3. Terra Peak (owed by eBay) cannot kick out accurate info any longer because of how eBay has prostituted their search parameters to not be what you are asking. I do not know what has happened... but this method is sketchy. Some may claim that due to the large numbers effect of averages this may be a marginal thing... but why is it happening now? Thanks for trying hard to make the eBay mystery adventure understandable.

I wasn't trying to present this as a method to get an exact price. I'm trying to get a rough idea what they've sold for, how many have sold and about how many are listed. It's not possible to arrive at an exact price as there are too many variables. But following a consistent method of arriving at a starting point, a seller can figure out what price works for them.
