Thanks for the video! How do you know how much to charge for shipping in your initial listing? Do you just have to guess? Do you do international shipping or just domestic?

I just had a horrible experience on eBay. I ordered some live pet shrimp, they arrived mostly dead or dying. Did some digging and this isn’t the first time they’ve done it. I left negative feedback, and the seller demanded in a message that I remove the feedback, and when I refused, they told me they would leave negative feedback on me as a buyer. They did, and then they proceeded to purchase 3 of my listings. I cancelled the orders, and reported them to eBay.

You did exactly the right thing. eBay strictly prohibits ANYONE, buyer or seller, from using Feedback as threat. eBay has gone back and forth on a lot of things over the years with how they view feedback. But they have never waivered on using feedback as a threat. They will remove those when they happy. I'm sorry that happened to you.

Wait a second. So you print out your label at home and then you have to take your package to the post office in order to ship it to your buyer?

I take it to the post office because we don't have postal service where we live. If you do, you could easily have your regular carrier take it. But we live WAY out in the country and the post office is our only choice.

You can choose the QR code and save it to your phone. The post office can print your label for you at no additional cost.

Great advice. I offer free shipping because I sell smaller craft items like scrapbook stickers. But my larger items like paper pads I do charge shipping. Do you have advice on how to price your items? What is meant by competitive pricing? Should I price my items slightly lower than other listings? Thanks, I’m learning so much from your tutorials!

Competitive pricing just means to make sure your prices are in line with your competitors. I've always been willing to price my items on the higher end and wait for the right buyer. But we have been moving more towards taking less and getting things sold. The reality is to do what works best for you. We've decided we want to reduce clutter and keep things moving.

I try to make the videos as simple and easy to follow as possible. But, another goal is to motivate and build people up who may need it most. So, most of my tutorials are going to include encouraging words.

I have a few things to add. If you're selling books/CDs/DVDs Media Mail is not insured (hence the lower rates). When I ship CDs I sandwich them in cardboard in a bubble pouch for extra protection. The plastic jewel cases can be broken. You can schedule a USPS pickup at your home online, except for media mail. If I catch my mail carrier when he gets here I just hand over smaller media mail in person. If you need shipping labels immediately the post office has the 8.5 X 11 double labels for domestic shipping and they don't charge sales tax as they're a federal facility.

A little extra information for you on this especially if you are a newer seller. So if you don't have that bar at the top you're not eligible or haven't been invited. One thing eBay has missed is telling actual specific timeframe requirements for EIS. For instance I'm a newer seller 4 mos. in with over 500 sales and above standard rating, but don't have the option currently. I've contacted eBay several times to find out how long do I need to have a store? How long do I need to be a top rated seller? For which they have no answers. The only answer I've been given is that it's an invite only thing currently. How true this is I don't know. It's been very frustrating to say the least, but at this point I'll wait for the universe to take care of me on this one.

It might work for packages but not for letter mail. I send stamps in a standard envelope with eBay shipping label. I was opted in automatically and my international buyer in Canada was charged $23 shipping for a letter I could mail myself for $1.50. I lost the sale and the customer and I opted out.

As of May 2024, there are 132 million active buyers on eBay and about 18 million sellers. So, you have to make sure you aren't in saturated categories, but there are still a ton of opportunities.

I got a sale last week to Alberta Canada it went to the international centre in Pennsylvania and was marked as picked up and delivered so I’m really confused. The buyer is still waiting in Canada for it.

i have a question when using the ebay calculator you say to type in the city or zip code of the buyer to find out the costs! but my question is how are you supposed to know before hand where the buyers are located/what city or zip code to use? im confused as i cant type in a city if someone hasnt purchased an item yet as i wont have any idea where its going to be shipped to until the buyer makes a purchase? any help would be amazing and thank you for the video ;) i am new to ebay incase you may be wondering lol

You're exactly right. You can't know where the buyer will be. So, I usually enter a location that is far from me. That way, if I miss, I won't lose a bunch of money. 😀 You can do this!

Do you have an alternative return address entered? I want a clear about that as I intended to be. The waiver makes it possible to not use your home address. But you still have to have a return address. Congrats on your first sale!!!

I would send the buyer a note and let them know when you'll ship. Let them know if that doesn't work, you can cancel it for them.
